Chapter 203: Tonight, the People of Yatun Join the Hunt (Vote for Monthly Ticket)_2
With the addition of other fairies, this group of tiny beings, now unimaginable in number, had all become enormous, fierce, and terrifying existences.
For a time, the entire graveyard, the forest outside of it, and even the hazy skies above were filled with their figures.
The fog persisted, but if anyone were to walk through it, they would surely be turned pale with fright.
Numberless nightmare monsters, nearly invisible, appeared here and there amongst the mist.
They opened their gaping maws, their eyes a pair of red irises set against black, like envoys from hell looking down upon the mortal realm.
"Your Majesty, I am ready,"
Lyon hushed everyone before praying to Bailuo, "I grant you permission to use this power to cleanse this erroneous, decayed city."
"I have seen the twilight of the gods,"
"The gods, exalted above all."
"Because they are divine, and divinity is synonymous with justice, the opposite of justice must surely be evil."
"If I am mistaken, then what is right in the eyes of wrong?"
"..."
Lyon stood in the center of the graveyard, his voice soft, like a murmur, as though he were speaking to someone, or recounting an ancient tale, venting his dissatisfaction with certain people, a particular world, or a certain kind of power.
"Woo~~"
At this moment, all the nightmare monsters and hunters fell silent.
They were keenly feeling the power emanating from Lyon, as well as his words.
"Dong~~ Dong~~~"
The bells of the Ancient City tolled above Bailuo's head. Though he was the Master of Miracles, what Lyon's power would actually culminate into was not something Bailuo fully understood.
Therefore, the battle for the Ancient City was not just for the People of Yatun to experience a true war.
It was not about a war with the living Frenzied Breed, but rather a confrontation against the Thorn Army with intelligence, self-judgment, and the ability to wield skills, Secret Skills, and Secret Techniques – the Heroic Spirit Breed from the seven major categories, the real strength of humanity.
"Hmm?"
Something unusual was happening in the Ancient City's sky, the original hazy fog now mixed with a smear of blood-red light.
However, the fog was too thick and too dense, preventing the bloody light from reaching the ground, exhausting all its force halfway.
"What is this?!"
General Winter had been sitting on the snow-capped mountains, observing the scenery, thinking the invasion of the Ancient City was not a formidable enemy.
After all, anyone who had signed the Holy Covenant would not possibly launch a large-scale assault against one another.
The holy tiger's whiskers, who would dare to stroke them?
But now, the situation had clearly taken an unexpected turn.
In the high sky, the originally silver-white moon was being replaced by a blood-red hue.
This was a Blood Moon, bright red, eerie, and terrifying.
It was like an eye, gazing down from the high heavens upon the city and General Winter, who was also under its scrutiny.
"Something's not right..."
General Winter's brow furrowed, his face showing a change for the first time, no longer as composed, "A red moon, such a vast domain of miracles, what level of Miracle Power is this?"
"What does he want to do?"
General Winter sensed that something was amiss and immediately decided to set out, but as he took a step forward, the old man hesitated.
'Should I go?'
'Isn't it better to stick with the original plan?'
'If someone really means harm to the Ancient City, why should I protect it?'
During the visit of the Lu Wei Family to General Winter, his confusion had been evident, wondering why he should protect the Ancient City and whether it was worth guarding.
What was the meaning of the Ancient City?
A city?
Or the people within it?
If this were any other place, any other commander-in-charge, he would surely prioritize people above all, claiming that buildings and cities were not that significant.
But were the Ancient City People worth saving?
"Pat!"
Putting strength into his feet, General Winter's steps abruptly halted.
He looked back at the wooden hut, covered in heavy snow and looking dilapidated in the light of the torches.
For forty years, feeling guilty towards the Ancient City, General Winter chose to live in seclusion here.
He found the people, the air, the land—every inch of the Ancient City so vile that he found it hard to speak of.
Despite it being the place he was supposed to change, it had become what it was.
To be honest, this was not General Winter's concern.
The relationships behind the Ancient City were complex, involving the Cain Empress, the Lord of the Birch Trees, and the Mother of Darkness, none of whom were easy to deal with.
At the very least, it would take Count Thorn personally intervening to sit at the same table and negotiate with them.
General Winter?
Just like when the Sea Dragon Princess and the Saint of Dawnlight Avril met their senior sister, no matter how formidable they were, they were just the Children of Miracle.
The Children of Miracle did not have the standing to converse on equal terms with the Master of Miracles.
Stay connected via empire
This was the hierarchy of king to subjects, and subjects to citizens.
"Continue waiting?"
General Winter lowered his head, a trace of thought in his eyes. Like Bailuo, he too wished to cleanse the Ancient City.
'Why should such a city exist?'
'Because I am here.'
'Then, can you choose not to be here?'
Years ago, hearing a song from the seaside, General Winter followed the sound and encountered a girl who had lost her mother.
General Winter could not forget the words she spoke.
"As long as I am here, the scum of the Ancient City can be so arrogant," General Winter, "But I can choose not to be."
"Keep waiting!"
Without further hesitation, General Winter chose to sit down, on the small wooden stool he had carved by hand, and then he watched as the Ancient City braced for the impending catastrophe.
"No matter who you are,"
"I entrust the fate of the Ancient City to you," General Winter slowly closed his eyes, "Do not disappoint me, foolish old feast!"
