Chapter 123: Blood in the Sand (3/3)
"You…"
Shiera stood frozen, her breath caught in her throat. She knew Kael, despite being a weak guy who didn't even carry the strength to kill a chicken with his own hands, is basically a good person. He is someone who wouldn't go out of his way to hurt others for his selfishness. He is a foolish guy who wouldn't hesitate to put his life into danger to save his loved ones.
And without his sister's presence, he is like the most compromising person in the world, and in her presence, he acts like a lord, and constantly tease her, try to test her patience but wouldn't cross the line.
At least, that was the impression she had on him.
However, she underestimated his resolve. She knew that Mia was his most important person but she didn't expect him to be this desperate and unhinged.
That's actually very cool. She thought.
Her heart actually raised a beat as she saw those cold, unforgiving eyes in him. He was threatening her using her friend's lives but all she could feel is a weird feeling of attraction toward him more than anger. With her mind in a bit of mess, she tried to sort out her thoughts.
"Move," Kael warned once more, the dagger pressing harder against Orin's neck. A single drop of blood smeared the dagger.
Shiera's fists trembled. She clenched her jaw in frustration and stepped aside in the end.
"Go," she muttered. "But don't expect me to come running if you get yourself killed."
"I don't expect it from you either." Kael nodded and released the pressure from the dagger. Orin's body went limp as Cleo vanished in a wisp of light.
Kael then walked past her.
Shiera, slightly surprised by his words, tried to reach out as Kael passed, the frustration and confusion still lingering in her chest. "Kael…" she started, but he stopped briefly, his back to her.
Glancing at her over his shoulder, he spoke, his voice calm, yet cutting like sharpened steel. "You've never acknowledged me as your husband. So, don't involve yourself in my family matters. Whatever the issue, we will solve it."
Those words suddenly struck deep to her soul, making Shiera almost stun in her path.
At the same time, in the dim starlight, Shiera caught a glimpse of his eyes, no longer their usual gentle brown, but a glowing, scarlet red.
She staggered back slightly. "What the…"
Did Kael awaken some bloodline? She couldn't help but wonder as Kael continued to walk away.
And the moment he stepped out of the cave, he was momentarily enveloped by the demonic aura. Thinking of the location that he last visited in his mind, Kael disappeared from the spot.
he then reappeared near the ruined oasis campsite. The smell of scorched sand and magic lingered in the air. Cracked rocks and debris still littered the ground from their earlier battle. His eyes scanned the terrain.
"There, it is… Hmm?"
At the edge of the camp, near the largest tent, a familiar black figure was bound in glowing red chains, Nyx, his loyal companion, now weak and unmoving. Its sleek fur matted with blood and sand.
Beside her stood a woman draped in dark combat gear, her arms glowing as she muttered incantations and magic runes floated above Nyx. The vampire no longer looked like she was in the peak stage of 8 Tier. She seemed like she is in 9-Tier, now. Is the darkness that gave her the boost in strength or is it the sunlight that actually reduced her strength. Kael had no intentions to ponder on it.
"This damn bitch… You dare…"
At the moment, his heart pounded in fury. He didn't hesitate to go full transformation mode.
From his back, two demonic bat-like wings burst forth, charcoal black, edged with crimson veins of energy. Horns curled above his head. His body enveloped by a swirling mixture of primordial dark and demonic energy. The twin daggers appear in his hand.
The ground quaked under Kael's feet as he stepped forward, wings spread widely. His demonic aura flooded the area, instantly alerting everyone.
"Hmm?" The vampire couldn't help but notice the disturbance. "A demon? In this mortal realm?" She frowned.
The first bandit lunged, only to be cleaved in half mid-air, Kael had moved too fast for the eye to follow, the severed head falling silently behind him.
The bandits rush at him in screaming, their eyes glowing in scarlet
Kael's blade tore through armor and bone with ease. He didn't need magic, his movements alone were too fast and strong for the bandits.
The Shadow clones flickered beside him, twenty in total, spreading afar and striking from every angle with daggers, casuing chaos all over the campsite."
"Raaa…."
One bandit lunged at him from behind, trying to pierce him in the back.
Kael turned around and grabbed him by the neck, lifted him with one hand, then crushed the throat with a sickening crunch.
Another tried to shield himself with a fire barrier. Kael simply walked through it, his body unfazed, and drove a dagger into the man's eye socket.
Within minutes, dozens lay dead, their blood soaking the sand, none even be able to get up like zombies they did earlier in the morning.
Only one figure remained standing.
The vampire looked at him in displeasure. "It's you after all. I knew that a mere handsome face with such flail body cannot tame such a mighty beast. You are a demon, huh?
Kael didn't reply to her question.
His foot dragged, forming a line in the sand.
The vampire vanished in a blink, appearing behind him in an instant. Her claws aimed for his neck.
CLANG.
She recoiled, staring at the jagged edge of Kael's dagger. He had blocked her strike without even turning around.
"You're fast," she said with a malicious grin. She seemed like she was enjoying instead of fearing.
Kael's response was a brutal elbow to her face, sending her crashing into a boulder with a thunderous impact. Dust exploded on contact. Before she could recover, he was already there, grabbing her by the leg and slamming her into the ground like a ragdoll.
