Chapter 13: Weeds × Fireball
Chapter 13: Weeds × Fireball
“This spirit field is too overgrown!” x2
Both exclaimed upon seeing the scene.
“Let’s start by pulling out the larger weeds,” Li Wen Ze, feeling older, took the lead and entered the spirit field.
He targeted a weed, first gathering its sprawling leaves together with his hands, then gripped the base and pulled hard!
Huh?
He pulled hard again!
And again!
Li Wen Ze’s initially handsome face turned red from exertion, but the weed only lost a few leaves, its roots not budging at all.
Why is this weed so hard to pull out?
This shouldn’t be happening!
He was already at the sixth level of Qi Refinement!
And these were just mere weeds!
Seeing Li Wen Ze unable to handle these weeds, Li Xi was also puzzled and stepped forward to observe closely.
They were indeed just ordinary weeds.
“Brother Wen Ze, let me try!” Li Xi decided to give it a shot.
Li Wen Ze moved aside.
Li Xi gripped the base of the weed just like Li Wen Ze had and started to pull with all her might.
Her face also turned red from effort, but she achieved even less than Li Wen Ze.
This clump of weeds didn’t even lose a single leaf.
Li Xi stood up straight, slightly out of breath, “I can’t do anything with it either.”
Facing this clump of weeds, both fell into self-doubt.
Meanwhile, the weed that had been forcefully pulled by the two human youngsters quickly spread its leaves again, as if nothing had happened, swaying gently in the breeze, seemingly mocking them silently.
“Why don’t we try other weeds? They can’t all be this hard to pull,” Li Wen Ze suggested.
“Okay,” Li Xi replied simply.
They both turned around to find other targets.
“This time, I must redeem myself!” Both thought identically.
Li Xi spotted a smaller patch of weeds, walked over, and started pulling hard.
This time, the weeds didn’t remain unmoved. The roots seemed to waver a bit, and tiny sounds of root fibers breaking could be heard from within the soil. Li Xi seized the opportunity and gave it her all, trying to pull out the weed.
But Li Xi’s joy was premature.
Her utmost effort could only get this far.
From then on, no matter how much the weed seemed to wobble or how loose the soil around its roots became, the weed’s roots seemed glued to the soil, refusing to come out.
Li Xi had to let go of the weed and decided to check on Li Wen Ze’s progress.
Li Wen Ze had also just let go of his weed and turned around. Their eyes met directly, both carrying a hint of bitterness.
Actually, it wasn’t their fault they couldn’t pull out these weeds.
Any grass that hinders crop growth is called a weed, but weeds differ from each other. For instance, most of the weeds they were facing were a type called “long-life root.” Apart from having a bit of spiritual energy, these weeds weren’t particularly special, except for their roots. Once the roots penetrate the soil, they extend towards the depths with all their might, usually growing up to two meters long.
The spiritually infused roots were extremely tough, and those with shallow cultivation couldn’t easily break them.
Even cultivators with deeper cultivation who managed to pull out a long-life root by brute force would leave broken roots in the soil, from which new plants would grow after some time.
Due to its nearly shameless vitality, this weed was named “long-life root.”
“No matter how hard they are to pull, all weeds fear fire. Why don’t we set a fire here to burn them off?” Li Wen Ze carefully suggested, seeing the depressing atmosphere between them.
“That’s a good idea. This is a spirit field with no other plants nearby, and it’s close to the river. Let’s burn all the weeds!” Li Xi said fiercely.
She didn’t even care if the burned land could be planted immediately.
After all, they both knew the Dust Subtlety Technique. They could use it on the burned spirit field afterward.
“Brother Wen Ze, I don’t know the Fireball Technique yet, so it’s up to you,” Li Xi looked at Li Wen Ze.
“Alright, my Fireball Technique is decent. I’ll definitely burn them all!” Li Wen Ze was also a bit annoyed. After all, he had promised little sister Xi to pull out all these weeds, but these weeds made him break his word. Didn’t he have any face?
Li Wen Ze and Li Xi stepped out of the spirit field. After standing still, he took a deep breath.
“Fireball Technique!” He quickly formed hand seals. Soon, an orange-red fireball appeared in their vision, floating slightly up and down. “Go!”
With Li Wen Ze’s forward pointing, the fireball flew rapidly into the weed patch.
The fireball continued to burn amidst the crackling and wailing of the weeds, quickly spreading. Soon, the entire spirit field was dyed orange by the firelight.
The flames danced in their eyes until they extinguished after everything in the spirit field was gone.
Only the ashes of the deceased weeds remained in the spirit field.
“Haha, these weeds are actually easy to deal with!” Li Wen Ze rarely showed such joy.
“Brother Wen Ze, you’re really amazing!” Li Xi praised loudly.
“Now we can use the Dust Subtlety Technique to restore the spirit field properly!” Li Xi flexed her fingers, preparing to form hand seals.
This was the first time she had used it on a spirit field since learning the Dust Subtlety Technique. Previously, she had only practiced on random patches of ground.
Li Xi and Li Wen Ze formed hand seals simultaneously. Surprisingly, Li Xi’s finger movements were even slightly faster than Li Wen Ze’s.
Well, Li Wen Ze wasn’t that passionate about farming to begin with. Since returning his allocated two mu of spirit field to the clan, he probably hadn’t had much chance to use the technique, naturally becoming a bit rusty.
Two beams of magical light, one after another, merged into the spirit field.
At this moment, Li Xi felt like she truly sensed a subtle difference.
It seemed as if the spirit field warmly welcomed the Dust Subtlety Technique.
There was a subtle stirring within the soil.
Li Xi couldn’t sense much more than that.
But she would have plenty of opportunities to experience it in the future.
The spirit field was absorbing the ashes of the weeds, visibly recovering to some extent.
The two looked at each other joyfully, then continued to use the Dust Subtlety Technique without prior agreement.
Once, twice, thrice.
The spirit field finally fully recovered. Li Xi and Li Wen Ze were almost moved to tears – they had finally dealt with these weeds!
Li Xi happily surveyed the two mu of spirit field again. Suddenly, her gaze froze.
She couldn’t believe what she was seeing: How… How is this possible?
