Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Hilary Young

"Was it Alexandra?"

I was slightly confused and looked at him questioningly. How could the store owner know who was calling me?

"I have a pretty good hearing. The voice on the phone seemed familiar to me, and when you mentioned the restaurant, everything fell into place," the man answered the silent question.

"Do you know Madame Alexandra?"

"Well... I'm her husband."

Hmm, what a meeting! How unexpectedly and quickly I met such famous and respected people.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Alex Reath," I introduced myself, holding out my hand.

"I'm Maxwell Harris," he answered with a handshake. "As soon as my wife told me about you, I was eager to meet you. The day before last night she brought home a video and said that I definitely had to look at it. I haven't seen her so inspired for a long time. Not understanding the reason for this state, I began to listen to the melody that the young man performed in the video, and everything became clear to me. I was so immersed in the music that I could not properly remember the performer, which is why I did not recognize you at once ... I am not afraid to say this: the composition you performed is a masterpiece!"

"I'm glad you liked it," I said in a humble tone.

"And as for the video that appeared on the Internet, I can assure you that I found out about it only this morning, when I had already arrived at the store. I don't understand how this happened, and apparently no one asked your opinion about it. I wanted to find out everything from Alexandra, this evening after work. But since we have such a meeting, I will go with you to the restaurant."

"Of course."

Sir Maxwell informed the store employees about his absence, and gave some instructions. We left for the restaurant, fortunately it was quite close...

Hilary Young was editing a video that she intended to post on her YouTube channel. She became a video blogger a year ago, as soon as she finished school. At first, it was quite difficult for her. She combined work and her new hobby, but over time, her videos began to gain views, and people began to subscribe to the channel.

Hilary quit her job and began to devote all her time to her new hobby. Her parents were somewhat worried about this, but still trusted their daughter's choice. Despite the fact that she did not earn an impressive amount of money, she had everything she needed. More than a million YouTube users subscribed to her channel.

In her reviews, she expressed her personal opinion about films, TV series, songs, games...

Basically, her videos carried a barrage of criticism.

Hilary poured out a ton of indignation on the entertainment industry, which, apparently, did not even strive for new heights. The entertainment industry was forgotten since the Second World War, or, more correctly, it was pushed into the background, or third, or even fourth.

Yes, there were things more significant and more weighty than entertainment. It all started with the country's recovery from the terrible consequences of the war... Humanity began to delve more and more into science, to explore and discover the unknown, and in the shortest possible time, by the standards of the universe, learned to find things that had long been accepted as part of myths and legends.

People learned that they were not alone in the world and in the universe... Moreover, even ordinary people began to demonstrate unimaginable abilities. The younger generation began to show interest in genetic engineering en masse as soon as information leaked out that a super soldier had been created during the war.

All countries in the world wanted to know the formula for the serum that could change the balance of power. Attempts to recreate this lost formula are still being made. Governments spent their colossal budgets on scientific research and development.

A huge leap was made in the conquest of space and the search for new sources of energy and resources. In connection with all of the above, the world of entertainment fell into decline.

At first, people treated this with due patience, because it is not every day that a live broadcast of an alien in blue tights fighting a huge monster is broadcast on TV. But people's appetites continued to grow, and the current state of affairs did not satisfy them at all.

People wanted to watch heartfelt films, listen to songs, read books, play games, follow the plot of a TV series. And therefore the Internet was teeming with discontent, indignation and indignation regarding the structure of life in the country today.

Hilary was also not satisfied with the current level of cinematography, literature, music ... That is why she made reviews on this topic. Her subjective reasoning found a response in the masses.

Most agreed with her opinion. Sometimes she posted videos where she condemned new and old stars, singers and musicians who bragged at every corner, despite the fact that most of their songs were not to the taste of the audience, and criticized directors who, having a large budget, were not able to present the world with a good film.

In the last few months, she had stagnated. Her channel was no longer gaining subscribers as quickly as before. The number stopped at the million mark, and there were no signs of an increase. This situation did not suit the young blogger. She had a goal - to become the most respected film critic of the world "YouTube", so that her opinion would be taken into account by the bigwigs of the entertainment industry.

She did not strive for this for the sake of money, although it would be stupid to say that she did not care about her well-being, but the main thing is that she wanted the entertainment world to flare up with bright colors.

Hilary hoped that perhaps her criticism would be successful, and filmmakers, artists and authors would begin to correct such obvious mistakes and obvious flaws in their work, and would begin to look for talented people and open the way for them in the world of art.

She understood that dreaming about it was the same as dreaming about a miracle. As soon as she finished editing the video, her phone rang. It was her best friend - Megan.

Hilary sometimes prepares her video review for several days, completely immersed in work, and therefore can miss some important news that flashed on the Internet. Fortunately, she has a friend who notifies her of the hottest events. Megan, just like Hilary, really wanted the entertainment industry to finally move forward. She was from a fairly wealthy family.

After school, at the insistence of her parents, she entered Harvard, but did not forget her best school friend, and continued to maintain good relations with the latter. Her hobby was to spend all day wandering around the Internet, and therefore she was always aware of all the important news, and, one might say, took on the role of assistant to her friend, a video blogger.

Since her school days, she has been putting aside the money that her father gives her for pocket money. She and Hilary agreed that in the future they would definitely make a film, albeit a low-budget one. It was their school dream. Megan pledged to take on the role of producer of the film, and Hilary to act as director.

"Yes, Megan," the girl picked up the phone.

"Hi. How are things going with the new video?"

"Just finished."

"That's good. Now listen, I sent you a link to the video. Look, it's a Bomb! The entire Internet is boiling, so come on, keep up."

Hilary quickly followed the link. *The birth of a new Heinrich Mortes! Magical piano playing and original composition from a young talent*

As soon as she read the title, she immediately flared up with indignation! Headlines like: "The best piano player", "The most beautiful piano music", "The birth of a new classical music" were common.

After all, the better the headline sounds, the more people will want to see it. But to write something like: "The birth of a new Heinrich Mortes" - was the height of blasphemy!

Everyone knew that he was the greatest composer in history. It is to his music that most listeners refer when evaluating new works.

Until now, no one has been able to compose a melody better than this long-dead master. And when she saw the number of views, she was truly amazed. 59 million views ... And the video was posted only yesterday evening.

Despite the fact that it was a crazy surprise for her, she was still able to accept this reality. Yes, such a loud title could generate interest, thereby contributing to a gain in views. But when her eyes fell on the number of likes under the video, she experienced a real shock.

The situation was completely opposite to what she expected. 1.5 million likes and only 5 thousand dislikes! She quickly clicked on the player icon. In the video, a young man was sitting at a white piano.

Just by looking at him, Hilary could tell that the guy was very handsome. When the music started playing, the blogger immediately tore herself away from contemplating the young man and began to listen to the melody. As soon as the young performer stopped playing, the video ended.

Hilary was a bit confused. She was going over her thoughts in her head, remembering what she had just listened to. She put the video on repeat, and scrolled down to read the comments.

[Sprigganyupp : This is the best thing I've heard!]

[Martox : The artist is handsome, and the music is even more beautiful!]

[Ernyko : I wonder who wrote this? Could it really be this guy? I personally doubt it. Does anyone know what the melody is? Send me a link to the original.]

[Areestokrat : This is an original! I'm a musician, and I say I've never heard this piece.]

[Parsifal : So this is an original piece by this young man? Does anyone know who this is? I'd like to listen to his other compositions.]

[Legendary : I've never met this person, and I've been a musician for forty years.]

[Milediii : This artist is so charismatic! I'm now his fan, can someone tell me who this is? What's his name?]

[Haisen : I feel like I've seen him somewhere before. I may be wrong, but it might be Alex Reith. I once read an article about him in a magazine. He's the writer who wrote Ten Little Indians and The Lord of the Rings. I didn't know he was a musician too.]

[Step-sis : Are you sure? I read those books too. I loved them, but I personally doubt he writes music.]

[Rein : I found this article, and there's his picture in it. Now take a look and tell me if that's him or not!]

[Clay : Damn, that's true! So, I'm officially a fan now! I can't wait for more books and music from him…]

Almost everyone liked this performance and Hilary was no exception. For a second, she even thought that perhaps this young musician really would be the one to surpass Mortez.

She followed the link left by one commenter. It was an article from the Gotham Gazette, which told about the author of four now popular books. There was also an illustrated photo, and the blogger was sure that this author and the performer were one and the same person.

"Alex Reath…" Hilary had heard of this man. He created truly brilliant literary masterpieces. She read all four books and was amazed by them. She then thought that perhaps, thanks to this man, the literary world would be transformed. Now she found out that he also writes original compositions. And his first piece of music that the world heard is undoubtedly beautiful.

Hilary did not want to admit it, but she, too, had become his fan. Deep down, she prayed that he would continue to surprise her and present the world with masterpieces. All this time she did not know what to do to promote the stagnation of her channel.

Now the way out was obvious to her. She would review this sensational video. Moreover, now she would closely follow this talented person and would talk about his achievements.

For some reason, she had a feeling that she would only say good things about him. Hilary never reasoned blindly. If a person made a mistake, she would point it out, even if it was someone she respected.

It was because of her fair opinion that she was able to win the love of the public. No one can be successful forever and sooner or later they will stumble.

She did not think that Alex Reath would create only masterpieces. Perhaps he would also make a misfire someday. But for now, she would review the fact that perhaps a person had appeared who could change the world of music and literature.

[Alex's P.O.V]

Sir Maxwell and I arrived at the restaurant. He led me to the manager's office. Madame Alexandra was sitting at the table, looking through the papers, and when she saw her husband, she was slightly surprised.

She hadn't expected him at that time, much less here. And when she noticed me next, she even raised her eyebrows. "Darling, why are you here? You said you'd be working at the store today. Alex… Meet my husband, Maxwell. Did you meet by chance or…"

"We met at our store," the man said in his characteristically rough voice. "As soon as I found out you invited him to the restaurant, I decided to show up and find out what was going on. It is because of the video that surfaced, am I right?"

"Oh, yes," Madame Alexandra looked at me. "Alex, I'm sorry for this trouble."

"Don't worry, madam, I don't blame you," I said in a calm tone, wanting to reassure the elderly woman. Only by looking at her did I realize that she didn't want to post the video on the Internet, much less without my permission. I sense there is a third party involved here.

"So what is the matter, Alexandra?" asked her husband, sitting down at the table.
