A Mutant Collector Quest

Chapter 139: Chapter 138: Mentality

An average Human Adult has about 5.5 litre of blood in their body, enough to fill a small plastic bucket.

But in front of you, the entire floor is drenched in blood, hundreds of people dancing wildly, fully soaked in it. How many humans were drained to create this grotesque spectacle of a continuous shower of blood over such a large area?

Witnessing this madness unfold, you feel sick to your stomach.

There is even a sense of detachment washing over you, like you are viewing all of this from a third-person perspective, you had experienced something similar before when you were in your Astral state.

You see yourself, wearing an unfamiliar face, standing by the washroom door, just a thin line separating you from the red-drenched world beyond.

Questions keep popping in your head: What are you doing here? In a foreign country, inside this underground lair, surrounded by these madmen, so very far from your loved ones. Why have you come here? Why did you join Elsa on this dangerous quest?

Was it to experience the thrill of Monster Hunting? Or was it to get closer to the hot, redhead? Or perhaps, deep down, it was your twisted sense of justice, wanting to avenge these poor souls by ridding the world of monsters like these; to prevent anyone else from suffering the same fate.

But is that really the case? You don't know these missing people; you have only seen their profiles. You don't even speak their language. They are strangers to you. Around the world, how many such deaths occur every hour, every minute, every second?

Is it really worth risking your life to avenge them? To leave your luxurious, comfortable home, the safe embrace of your lovers, and plunge into a fight against unknown enemies and monsters just because the world sees you as a hero?

Sadly, that is not the reason you are here.

The truth is that after the Moloid fight and your brief confrontation with the Brotherhood of Mutants, your Precognition power kept showing you blurry visions of battles with what felt like insanely powerful beings. Knowing many future events of this Marvel universe, you didn't doubt these visions at all.

The next step was obvious, to prepare, train, and get stronger for these eventualities. But you are not a typical hero who progresses gradually. No you in fact have an incredibly broken mutant power—just by spending some lovely time with your increasingly growing harem, you can continuously become more powerful.

Although you still have to train and prepare, because of your convenient powers that is not the main concern you face right now. The real issue, your greatest weakness, is something that only recently came to your attention.

It was your Mentality.

In your previous life, before being reborn here in the Marvel universe, you were just an average person. Even after arriving in this dangerous world, you were lucky enough to have a loving mother and sister, a beautiful girlfriend, and recently, a long list of lovers who adore you. You have achieved immense wealth and power, even awakening a mutant ability that allows you to grow stronger with ease.

You have truly won the Isekai Jackpot!

But all of these has created a safe bubble around you, a comfort zone that hasn't necessarily made you weak or soft, just a bit complacent. You are not naive as still when needed, you have committed murder without hesitation, like when you rescued Toni. So Brutality wasn't lacking in your mentality—it was something else.

What your mentality needs and lacks is sharpening. You need to experience much more for it to improve, so that you can make better decisions and choose the correct path. This situation here right now in front of you, it can be the perfect whetstone.

According to Elsa, a vampire's saliva contains an enzyme that gets transferred to a victim's body during a bite, if they die and have enough of that enzyme in their system it can slowly transform them into a vampire.

You yourself had felt your Regenerative Healing power activate as soon as the foreign enzyme entered your body. In fact, Racquel bit you so many times that your healing power is still working overtime to remove all the enzymes. You weren't aware that this would happen, but it's a fortunate coincidence.

But normal people aren't like you. They would have been converted into vampires in a single bite without a doubt, as evidenced by the hundreds of vampires before you.

Now, the main crux of the matter is: What should you do with them?

Kill them all? But you don't harbor an intense hatred for vampires. Thanks to the Twilight movies and other pop culture interpretations from your previous life, you can't even see them as true monsters.

You even just had sex with a hot vampire some minutes ago, and although Racquel sees humans as mere food sources and has likely killed or enslaved many of them before, you can't generalize her thoughts to all of her kind.

Most of these people in front of you are victims themselves, struggling to resist the overwhelming thirst for human blood that comes with being a vampire.

So, should you spare them all? But seeing them drenched in so much human blood, harvested from countless lives, can you really do that?

Let them go? If you do, they will only create more vampires, causing more death and suffering.

Cure them? Can you even do that? They are proper undead, having died once already. The fact that they don't register in your Focus's scan is proof enough that curing them isn't that simple.

This is a unique moral quandary you have found yourself in, and this kind of experience is exactly what you need. Only by going through these kinds of scenarios will your mentality improve, sharpen, and it will then allow you to figure out what kind of hero you truly want to be!

For now you still haven't made up your mind about what you should do with them all, maybe you will really have to vanquish all of them, as that is the only way out that seems feasible to you.

You already knew that you might face such a decision and that's why you had decided that Lucas or Aeon are not going to be present here, whatever you decide and all its consequence will fall on another one of your masks.

It will be a new you, a completely new persona!

All these doubts, thoughts, and questions flashed through your mind in mere seconds. You take a step forward into the chaotic scene, your sense of detachment fading away as you inhale the metallic scent of blood saturating the air, the mind-numbingly loud music still blaring in the background.

Using a Forcefield above your head as an umbrella to shield yourself from the shower of blood, you pull a sleek black mobile phone from your pocket.

"AHH Fresshh Bloodd!"

Some Vampires in the vicinity notice you straight away as they stop dancing and with red eyes plunge towards you.

Their movements are inhumanly fast—one reaches you in the blink of an eye, his body slick with blood, long claws glinting, and his fanged mouth gaping wide as he swipes at your head.

Though startled by his speed, your eyes track him. You raise your phone-wielding hand to intercept his strike.

"Henshin"

The Black Mobile melds into your hand, as you activate your Metal Constructs ability. Black metal crawls over your skin, encasing your arm in a sleek gauntlet. The vampire's claws clash against your reinforced hand.

"Ugh!" you grunt, struggling to hold him back. His strength is unreal, far exceeding what you expected—even stronger than Captain Carter, whom you have sparred with before. But there is no time to dwell on it. With a swift movement, you pivot and drive a powerful kick into his chest, your now metal-covered leg propelling him back like a missile.

BOOM!

The force sends the vampire crashing into the others charging at you, knocking them back into the still-ignorant, dancing crowd. You are certain you crushed his ribcage with that strike.

"HISSS!"

Despite the collision, they rise unnervingly fast, hissing at you with fury. Even the one you kicked recovers with ease, despite his injuries. Elsa's warnings about their enhanced abilities flash in your mind: superhuman strength, speed, and regeneration. Yet these creatures seem far more potent than she described.

You theorise the bloodbath they are indulging in is amplifying their power, and it is clear that these five vampires in front of you won't relent.

With a deep breath, you summon your energy. Your entire body becomes encased in a Radiant Shield, and an Electric Aura crackles around you as the black metal suit completely envelops your body.

"It's time for my debut," you mutter, focusing on your Clairvoyance ability.

You raise your hand, a glowing orb of white fire forming in your palm. Holy Fire Magic—your ace against these creatures.

"Tonight, you will learn that you are not at the top of the food chain… I am.

APEX."
