Chapter 42: Something’s never go to plan
After the four of us left Atlas, we were all playing a game that breaks friendships faster than marriages.
"Uno." I called out, causing the three girls to groan in annoyance. Sienna had five cards in hand, while Blake had three.
Sienna on the other hand had fifteen cards in total, making her last. And she was fuming hard, her ears twitched every few seconds, and she tried to look at Blake's cards.
"Damnit, how are you good at this!?" Sienna shouted at me, both Ilia and Blake also glared at me.
"I'm just different." I shrugged nonchalantly, having a smug grin on my face. The three of them began to look at one another, nodding in a silent agreement.
I narrowed my eyes at what they did and prepared myself for what was about to happen.
"Plus two." Sienna placed her card down, laying a plus two green, Ilia was next, placing a plus two red.
"Plus four." The two of them then turned to Blake, her hair blocking her eyes and her hand trembled.
As soon as she looked at me, she had a look of pity and placed her card. The card she had placed was a plus two red, Ilia and Sienna grinned.
"Well, well, looks like you got to draw six cards Aiko, those are the rules." She said in a mocking manner.
Seeing the three cards, I began to sweat at the sight. Seeing the panicked look on my face, the three of them thought they had won.
Only for me to chuckle, my tails began to sway side to side, and small bits of my flame began to cover me.
"You..you really thought you could beat me…" I then threw my head back and began to laugh.
I placed my hand on my face, covering my eyes and soon parted my fingers. Exposing one of my eyes that glowed, causing them to shiver.
"N-no, you have to draw six, w-we placed three plus two!" Ilia stuttered, shivering at the sight of my eyes.
"This is true, unless…" I began to smile, widening it, my teeth changing to fangs. Sienna, who learned how to play slowly, had a look of realization.
"Nooooooo!" Sienna placed her hands on her head and knelt to the ground. Tears spilling from her face.
"That's right, I'm adding more to the pile!" I shouted, raising the card I slammed it onto the pile.
Instead of a plus two, the last card I placed was a plus four, making the amount of cards she had to pull, is ten.
Sienna stared at the pile at first, but then slowly began to reach at a second pile, her arm shaking as she began to draw ten cards.
Making her have twenty five cards in total, Ilia and Blake then turned their focus at me, glaring at me.
"You cheated, you couldn't have had that card easily!" Blake accused me, I feigned being hurt at her words, and placed my hand on my chest.
"Oh, how your words wound me sister." I said with sadness, crocodile tears spilled from my eyes.
"I played this game fair and square, if you do not believe me, check the deck." I pointed at the deck of cards, which are in front of her.
Blake then began to look through them, making sure none of them were fake, or if I was using an illusion to cheat.
Which she couldn't find anything, the three of them soon hung their heads in defeat. While I was laughing at the victory I had done.
'My, my, it seems you are one of us.' My mother giggled within my mind, my grandfather was also laughing.
'Of course he is, if he wasn't, he would have won unfairly!' He laughed, I couldn't help but hide my smirk.
'Oh come on, you were the ones who decided to help me, I couldn't refuse the… 'offer.' I replied.
Yeah, my mother and grandfather decided to give me an edge. The cards were reshuffled by my mother, making sure I had the cards to win.
While my grandfather was the one who looked at their hands, seeing which cards they have.
All in all, I was the house, and they were the victims. And the house always wins at any gamble, by any means necessary.
After Blake checked the cards, finding no signed of foul play, she sighed and collected the cards, clicking her tongue in annoyance.
I was about to comfort her, only for the bull head to shake. Sienna reached over to Ilia to hold her down.
While I did the same with Blake, the sound of stone hitting metal was heard. And I could see black feathers striking against the window.
"Hey, what the hells happening up there?!" Sienna shouted, before another jolt tossed us to the other side.
"We got a flock of nevermore! We won't be able to make it to Argus!" Shouted the pilot, switching directions and heading more south.
"Head to Vale, we got some solders stationed there!" Shouted the second pilot, who began to grab the radio.
"Mayday, mayday, this is Gamma one, we have four V.I.P on board and require immediate assistance!" The sounds of sharp objects hitting the bullhead was heard all around us, and some small dents could be seen.
Blake began to cover both ears in fright, whimpering at the situation at hand. Ilia and Sienna began to try and calm her down, because of the fear, the attacks began to increase.
'Mom, gramps, if you can do something, now's a good time!' I mentally screamed, both of them detached themselves from my body, making their way to the cargo hold.
'Don't worry sweetie, just focus on keeping Blake safe.' Spoke my mother, who now stood on top of the bull head.
POV SAKURA
As I stood outside with my father, I could only click my tongue in annoyance at the sight of these disgusting creatures.
"So, shall we get to work?" I asked my father, who held his long sword in his hand.
"Yeah, yeah, you'll deal with the stragglers, I'll deal with the ones who get too close." He sighed, and made his way to the closest one.
Swinging his sword quickly, the nevermore was cut perfectly in half and began to disintegrate before our eyes.
I didn't bother to look anymore and raised my tails, my chakram's slowly rising as well. I flicked one of my tails forward, causing one of the chakram's to shoot forward.
Slicing three of them at once, it soon returned to my side. Some had begun to launch their feathers towards us, seeing that we are a bigger threat.
"It's still the same." I sighed and flicked a few of my tails, sending my chakram's to intercept the feathers.
"Are you just going to show off, or are you going to take this seriously?" I turned around, seeing my father not waving his sword, yet each nevermore is sliced before they could touch the ship.
"I may sound arrogant father, but these are just the fodder, the real threat is not even close." I replied, look off into the distance to see a larger nevermore, hovering in the distance.
"I see, it's testing us." I narrowed my eyes at the sight of it, repulsed at the monstrosity that has destroyed lives.
"Would it be wise to face it?" My father asked, I shook my head at the suggestion, and focused on dealing with the smaller ones.
"If we did, we would attract more Grimm, especially the ones that lurk bellow." I said and looked at the ocean.
"True, we don't want the sea Fei long to rise." He continued to defend the ship.
"But just in case." I focused my bloodlust towards the nevermore, letting my desire reveal itself at it.
Grimm may lack a soul, but the instinct is deep inside the mind. Sensing my bloodlust, it let out a loud screech, the nevermore that were surrounding us soon began to pull back.
"That deals with the nevermore's, we should return before the rest of the 'military' finds us." I said in disgust.
My father sighed at my words, but did so, sinking down and making his way back to my son.
"That old hag has truly caused some problems." I sighed, wondering what the woman has been doing for so many years.
"She best be prepared, for immortality is a curse no one wants to have." I sighed, returning to my son.
POV AIKO
'It's done, there's no need to deal with the nevermore anymore.' Hearing my mother deal with the Grimm, I sighed.
I then turned to the girls and smiled, nodding at them that the problem was dealt with. They began to sigh in relief, Blake was still hugging me and was smiling just slightly.
"So, would this affect our path to Argus?" I asked Sienna, who just scoffed and leaned against the chair.
"Most likely, these Atlesians prefer acting like cowards than facing the risk head on." As if on cue, one of the pilots arrived.
"So, since the attack from the nevermores, we decided to swing by to Vale to do some maintenance." I wasn't surprised at their excuse.
"Also, you'll have to travel on your own once we stop, since we don't know if there will be another flock." Once the pilot left, the four of us began to pack our things.
"Well then, you were right, Aiko." Sienna grunted, hauling her bag behind her, and grabbing her whip.
"Still, their just some buttheads." I gasped at what Blake said and pulled out a jar. Seeing the jar, Blake began to panic.
"B-but it's not the b word." I still shook it in front of her, Blake only pouted and pulled out some lien, tossing it in the hat.
"You know you can't say that." I tried to scold her, but she pulled out my biggest weakness. She laid her cat ears flat, and began to stare at me with wide eyes.
"Y-you know… that's not…" Blake then took another step, her lower lip began to shake, I had no choice but to lower my head in defeat.
"Just don't say it again." Ilia, who was silent, soon spoke up.
"Uh, guys. We're here." All four of us made our way to the window, looking outside, we could see a large kingdom.
But it looked more modern, with many buildings and shops, the only noticeable thing that stood out, was a large academy that was floating above the entire city.
"You two, that castle over there, that's beacon academy." Sienna pointed at the large castle, both me and Blake stared in awe at the sight.
"W-wait, why are we heading towards there?" I asked, seeing the academy getting bigger and bigger.
"Well, your father was reluctant at first, but after hearing what happened in Atlas, he decided to have us stay at beacon." I was surprised, since the problem was major.
The council surely could have denied his request for this, unless…
"Did the council ask for anything before they accepted dad's request?" Sienna sighed and looked to the side.
"They asked for some Faunus from the island to do some construction, however, the amount they'll pay is bad." Her hand was clenched into a fist, and I could see her tightening it.
"I see, still, it's better than nothing." I continued to look at the academy, seeing two people at the landing pad waiting for us.
"Who are they?" I pointed at the two, Blake heard my question, looked at the two people I was pointing at.
"Oh, oh, oh, the man with the black jacket is the headmaster, Ozpin." Blake pointed out at the man.
Staring at him, he wore a black jacket. Underneath it was a green vest with golden buttons in the center.
Underneath the vest was also a green shirt, with a scarf wrapping around his neck. In the center of it is a small crest, four sides pointing in each direction.
"And what about her?" I pointed at the woman, seeing her, I felt my instincts rising. Warning me that she is dangerous and I should tread carefully.
"T-that's Glynda Goodwitch, the s-strongest huntress in Vale." She hid behind me, staring at the woman.
Glynda Goodwitch, was wearing a long sleeved blouse with gauntlet cuffs on her wrist.
With a large hole on her chest, showing her cleavage. She also wore a pencil skirt with leggings.
And finally, she wore a cape, with the inside being purple, and the outside being black. I had to admit, she seemed like the type to discipline anyone.
Be that a man and a woman, and both would be fine with that. In a subtle way that is, I just shivered at the thought.
As we landed on the landing pad, we were guided out by the solders, who then rushed back in the bullhead when we finally stepped out.
Taking off without caring if we were blown away or not. Blake was pushed forward, I was about to catch her before she landed on the ground, but a purple aura enveloped her, causing her to float.
"Careful now, little girls such as yourself shouldn't have to get hurt." Glynda said, placing her on her feet.
I rushed to Blake's side and began to search for any wounds, no matter how small they are, I had to make sure she was okay.
"A-Aiko, I'm okay." Blake tried to reassure me, but stopped when I placed my hand on her head.
"Sorry, I'm just being paranoid." I sighed, somewhat happy that she wasn't harmed, and somewhat pissed that the pilots and solders just left the second we got off.
'Mother, this may sound selfish, but could you….' I wanted them to cause some problems.
'No need to ask, after all, anyone who harms the family, is an enemy to the family.' My mother replied.
"So, your the headmaster to this academy?" Sienna asked Ozpin, the man himself held a mug in his hand.
Swirling the contents inside it, he then raised it and took a sip. As he took a glance at me, I wanted to drop my transformation and burn him where he stood.
I could feel my sweat pouring down my back as I stared at him, something about him was dangerous, no.
I felt as if many blades were all over my body, barely touching my skin. One wrong move, and I would die.
"Greetings, I am Ozpin Arcturus. Welcome, to beacon academy."
(A/N) I'm back my dear readers, seems when it comes to this, I feel more motivated, guess I had the information to write this.
Also, since Ozpin didn't have a last name, I decided to give him one, pretty good last name too.
Besides that, send in power stones to show some support.
For now, peace!
