A Fantasy to Worlds End

Chapter 8: The Rupta Railway

Capital City of Ardia Northern District

A woman sits in her room with a young woman standing in front of her.

"My dear daughter." The woman speaks wearing a grey dress that leaves her shoulders exposed, instead wrapping around her neck and flowing down to a stunning keyhole neckline. The dress has a tight fit, making it appear comfortable while also being attractive and stylish. Her arms had been covered until just below the elbows. The sleeves are loose-fitting, which highlights her beautiful skin. She's wearing open-toed shoes.

[Lumina Pierce]

"Tomorrow is the day. With all these years of making you flawless. I shall expect no less from you."

"Yes Mother" a young lady responds. She has medium-length black to platinum blonde ombre hair with bangs split on both sides. With a light blue iris, is tall, and has bangs split on both sides. She wears a similar color dress that falls smoothly from top to bottom, with a square neckline that subtly reveals the gorgeous outfit worn underneath. Her stomach is covered by the silky, corset-like knotted fabric of her dress, which is broken up by a long rope belt that is worn fairly low around her waist.

[Roxanne Pierce]

"Your father would be so proud of what you've become and what you will become."

Both stare at a giant moral of Roxanne's late father.

"I know the saying is that only the four princesses can become the next ruler. There is also a possibility that you have the chance to be chosen."

"I am aware of that mother. Since Emperor Kaiser was not from any of the four royal families, my abilities may be noticed."

"They WILL be noticed. Great job daughter"

Lumina sits on her chair crossed-legged with wine in her cup.

"Now remember you are perfect. Your skills are flawless. Always strive to be perfect and precise-"

"Because we are the Pierce Family known to be precise in their attacks"

The woman smiles but with no warmth but a sheer cold in her eyes "I am impressed maybe all those years of tough training on you have paid off. Do your absolute best. Although winter has just ended never let the ice melt"

"Yes Mother" Roxanne nods as she exits the room.

Lumina stares at her late husbands picture "our daughter will reach greater heights and be at the pinnacle of this world. She HAS too"

.....

Transportation Zone Village of Rupta

Axelle continues walking with his father's sword and big backpack on his side.

"So this is the spot." Axelle examines every single spot.

"I am sure she'll be there. Ah, there it is." He steps toward the Magic Circle that says Rupta Railway and steps on the magic circle engraved into the ground.

WARP

"Wow"

The Rupta Railway is a grand area made of concrete flooring. One ticket stand. Filled with multiple mages going in and out throughout the station hoping in or hoping off. It is designed with 16 connecting platforms. Wooden benches are dispersed throughout the railway.

The smell of fuel, the sounds of the wheels screeching against the trackway, and all the commotion of the crowd made this place lively. There was a giant clock in the middle of the Railway displaying the time.

Axelle looked at everyone

Mages dressed in all types of clothing were hustling and bustling about the area. Some of them dragged brightly colored luggage bags after them, while others simply carried themselves. Others brought along pets with them or other peculiar creatures. Scattered throngs of enthusiastic mages congregated among the eight doors going into the train, ready to enter. The doors opened. People stormed in and out. As soon as the platform was clear, a piercing whistle sounded and the train chugged away. A loud clang echoed through the busy station. Nearby, a couple of bags collided. After a few grins and many apologies, the owners parted ways.

He continued to look around and read what each platform had Platform One departed heading to the Capitol City of Ardia, and Platform Two arrived from Ardia.

However one caught his eye.

"Platform 4: Polaris Region "

Axelle stares at it for a moment. "Polaris" he thinks to himself.

"Attention all passengers boarding the noon trip to the Capitol City of Ardia on Platform One Boarding will close in 10 minutes I repeat 10 minutes" someone speaks on the intercom.

"I haven't even gone to the ticket check-in," Axelle says to himself as he waits in a short line.

There aren't too many people in front of him but the man in front of him looks back as he does it again.

"Is something on my face?" Axelle thought oh he caressed and fixed his face.

The man in front of him finally turns around again and speaks "Are you by chance Axelle Alekzander?" the man asks.

"Y-yeah Oh my the P-prince of Primordial Flames please go ahead in front of me" The man insists that Axelle go in front of me.

"Huh," Axelle a bit puzzled couldn't figure out why he was doing that.

At that moment a murmur started to go around the station.

"Oh, that's right my name and picture are out there. No been out there since that day"

The people in line let Axelle through to the front.

Axelle approaches the worker. "Hi am"

"Axelle Alekzander" the worker speaks.

"Here is your boarding ticket"

The worker hands him and Gold ticket with embroidered lettering reading "First Class VIP Axelle Alekzander"

"Alright thank you"

He turns to leave as a crowd of people turns to look at him and continue to walk. The noise and commotion would continue until Axelle reached the train.

"I think this a more of what I expected from my father having connections," Axelle thought to himself humbly smiling heading into the train.

He gives the worker the ticket and he stamps it.

"Welcome Mr Alekzander Please make way for your seat and enjoy this quick hour. Also, we can handle your luggage"

"Why thank you"

Axelle hands over his luggage.

"We can also put away your sword if you like"

"No thank you I'll keep it with me" Axelle responds as he holds the hilt of the sword.

"Almost forgot this is for you" he gives the worker 100 Bal.

"Thank you"

"You're welcome," Axelle says as he goes to his seat.

The train cart has 12 chairs 6 rows of chairs with two to each side. These chairs are very comfortable and homely with a lot of foot room for each.

With each step, he's met again with multiple stares and whispers. None with no ill intentions but just star-struck and shocked to see him.

"Ah here it is"

"C row seat 1"

He sits in his chair and leans against the window of the train "All this exposure is making me tired. An hour should be quick."

YAWM

Closing his eyes Axelle could hear a flurry of people at the ticket office attempting to buy last-minute tickets. With the sounds of footsteps rapidly rushing to their seats.

DING

DONG

DING

DONG

The giant clock in the center of the railway has sounded off.

DING

DON

DI

D

Axelle opens his eyes. "Where"

He awakens in a field of white, a field of nothingness, and a blank slate.

"It seems that you are finally prepared to have an understanding of my power" the mysterious voice speaks again.

"You again it's been a long time since you have talked. Yeah, I finally got the just of your power" Axelle continues to look around for the source of this voice.

"Hahaha," The mysterious voice chuckles.

A flame then can be seen near the horizon.

Axelle walks towards it. It gets bigger and bigger fully engulfing one area of this white space.

"It's hot"

"This is just the beginning. Have fun with it" The voice turns deep and empowering.

"Ahhh" Axelle suddenly wakes up. Staring outside the window only to be met with darkness.

"Bad dream?" a voice with a European accent asks.

Axelle turns to his right to see a young male who has short, well-combed black hair and brownish-grey eyes. He is tall, skinny, oval-shaped face, and wears slim, rimless glasses. Wearing a black shirt tucked in an up-sleeved shirt, silver belt, black slacks, black shoes, and a silver watch.

"You were talking in your sleep," the young man says.

Axelle fixes himself in the chair "Am sorry if I have disturbed you. Where are we?"

"In a tunnel, we are roughly-" the mysterious young man checks his watch "30 minutes away"

"Wow, I was out cold" Axelle massages in between his eyes.

"Indeed, when I arrived at my seat you were already fast asleep on the window of the train. I did not want to wake you in your slumber. My name is Quinton Weissman it's a pleasure to meet you" he extends his hand to Axelle.

Axelle shakes his hand. "Am Axelle Alekzander but you probably heard of me"

"Heard is an understatement everyone knows who you are" Quinton adds. Ever since that news broke out years ago that the "Prince of the Primordial Flames" has been discovered is quite something. Its a pleasure to make your acquaintance Axelle"

"Pleasure is mine. You look around my age Quinton are you by chance taking the entrance exam as well?"

"On the nose you are. Hoping that I and my colleague pass this entrance exam we have a plan we wish to execute"

SNAP

Quinton snaps his finger as a light green electrical surge comes out from his fingers.

"You are an elemental mage with thunder magic," Axelle says.

"Close. Plasma"

"A unique magic user," Axelle says to himself.

"My goal along with my colleague is to enter Ardian Magic Academy Graduate and revolutionize this world as you know it. With the use of an electrical revolution, we won't need any trains or certain magic for transportation we'll have well-made devices and stop areas to do so."

Axelle looks in amazement "That is a bold dream but I say if you believe it you can achieve it"

Quinton smiles "I really like you optimize Axelle. Thank you.

The afternoon sun glistened on the seats of the train, sending beams into the tunnel, making it sparkle and shimmer. Axelle recognized the sound as a quiet hum coming from the distance. In a few seconds, the train would arrive, and out of the tunnel, he'd venture forth to a new place and beginnings. The station clanked softly and began to revolve, slowly whirling around to align itself with the proper track. Finally reaching the end of the tunnel the bright light shined throughout the train.

"Back to lo the light"

"Such a magnificent sight all this greener and life," Quinton says. "Say Axelle if you don't mind me asking what your dream is?"

"Dream" Axelle sits and ponders for a moment.

"What is my dream? If I am chosen to be a Heavenly Mage Candidate what is next? Or what if am not chosen what's plan B?" Axelle thinks in deep thought.

"Am sorry if I gave you a tough thought"

"Oh no worries take your time we might have another-"

SCREEECH

HALT

Quinton and Axelle suddenly shift as the train abruptly stops.

"Damn what the"

"That was unexpected" Quinton remarks.

Both he and Axelle slowly arise from their seats to see luggage and people slowly recovering.

"Is everyone alright? Anyone hurt" Axelle asks.

"PARDON THIS INTERRUPTION. PARDON THIS INTERRUPTION. IT SEEMS WE MAY HAVE ENCOUNTERED SOME ROGUE MONSTERS UP AHEAD THE TRAIN CAN'T ADVANCE" the conductor announces on the speaker.

"An interesting development" Quinton comments.

"Tch it's going to take a while for anyone to respond"

CRACKLE CRACKLE

The plasma jolts out of Quinton's fingertips.

"Shall we take care of them ourselves?"

SHEATH

Axelle unsheats his new blade. "I guess we can a little warm up before the entrance exam wouldn't hurt"

Axelle and Quinton dash outside the train to see where the problem is.

AHHH

Screams are heard near the front of the train. Some passengers ran away towards the other train cars others to the nearby forest.

"There near the front of the train," Quinton points out.

A group of trolls seem to block the pathway of the train. Around two dozen are seen rocking and hitting the main cart. These trolls were humanlike except for their unusual build of having tough legs, hunched posture, and abnormal green skin color. They carried wooden clubs the size of 2 watermelons with varying heights and sizes.

"I'll go on ahead and attack them up close," Axelle says as he darted toward the group of trolls. Leaving a gust of wind in his tracks.

"Wai-" Quinton couldn't finish his sentence as Axelle had already gone full force.

He jumps into the air with no remorse. His father's sword is above his head. Being overtaken by bright fiery flames.

{FIRE CREATION MAGIC: SCATTERED FLAMES}

Whilst in the air Axelle swings his fiery blade to the right creating a scatter of flames to go in multiple directions in front of him creating a sea of flames reigning from above.

The trolls get submerged within these flames burning away. He quickly looks at the blade his father gave him. "This works perfectly slightly taller blade than my previous but I can work with it. Thank you, Father"

"Okay I'll just provide some backup" Quinton closes his left eye and extends his right hand creating a three using his ring, middle, and pointer finger pointing directly at the group. Using his arm like a sniper rifle.

Distracted a couple of trolls look to have avoided the flames and jolt forward.

Axelle readied this sword as he expected this "Attempting to surprise me not going-"

{PLASMA CREATION MAGIC: PLASMA DISCHARGE}

Lime Green 1 mm shots shoot the trolls from afar in quick succession.

"Very impressive Axelle" Quinton slowly walks forward wiping the frames of his glasses with a cloth. Quickly glancing at the bodies of the scorched trolls a burnt smell encapsulates the area.

"Such speed and destructive flames. This is indeed a Heavenly Mage candidate. Although-" Quinton speaks to himself.

"Quinton I had those guys down for the count I predicted no expected some not to be caught up in those flames," Axelle says with confidence as he puts away his blade.

"Didnt want you to to steal the show" Quinton playfully responds. "His arrogance. No, I mean confidence and his impulsive behavior may be his weakness," he thinks to himself.

The conductor of the train comes running out.

"I wanna thank you both for taking those trolls out. There been an increase of them these past days"

"Really" Axelle surprised. "That's odd. These trolls aren't supposed to be out right now they usually come out during the fall." Quinton adds.

"Right, it's the beginning of the new year. We had just finished the cold season. Is it possible that something woke them up?"

"It could be something or someone. Or is the planet finally getting warmer? Who knows" Quinton suggests.

"Yeah shouldn't give that much thought into it"

"Anyways thank you so much again and sorry for that we'll begin moving towards Ardia in a couple of moments"

"Thank you, conductor," the two boys say in unison.

Axelle and Quinton head back to the train.

CLAP

CLAP

CLAP

They met with a standing ovation from the passengers on board moving along to their seats.

"I had this thought, Quinton"

"What is it?"

"Since the conductor did say that these monsters have been appearing do you think the other trains may be delayed?"

"Glad you brought that up. It's quite possible"

The two sit and ponder as the train continues to move.
