Chapter 28: Suspicious encounter.
“What do you think you’re doing. So rudely.”
I raised my voice towards the man.
The man apologized over and over again with a smile on his face.
“Sorry to startle you. Actually, I was on my way to find Mr Myeong-hoon, but I just ran into him on the road.”
“Me?”
"Yes. Do you know Monthly Cat Dog Life? We are a new magazine that has been separated from the monthly Catdog Life, and we are preparing the first issue. I wanted to share the story of Myeong-Hoon’s cat, so I asked for coverage by phone and e-mail several times, but he kept refusing.
“I have been contacted by Catdog Life a few times, but I definitely refused, how can I come to you in such a reckless way? How else did you recognize my face on the street?”
“Have you ever had an article in Catdog Life about volunteering for abandoned dogs before? The picture came out well, so I would recognize it right away.”
“Are you a stalker or something, that came out so long ago…….”
I got angry and had something to point out, so I calmed my mind. Ah-in, who could not bear it, came out from behind my back and was about to say something, gently restrained her.
“The cat that Catdog Life asked for coverage is our first Baek-ho, and the one we have now is the second.”
His impressionable eyes shone strangely.
“If you don’t like the coverage, you don’t have to do it. Sorry for coming unexpectedly. But I really like cats. I've heard that Myung-hoon's second cat is an unusual Russian blue mix, can't we just see it once? I won’t take pictures and I won’t write articles. Just show it to me once. Please.”
"I’m not sure······. If it's okay to stay in the mobile cage, I'll show you for a moment. Only this one time. Please do not contact or come to visit our cats any more. If you come again, I’m not going to let you off easy.”
Ain had a slightly puzzled face, but she was a quick-witted child, so she pretended not to know and kept her mouth shut.
This new mobile cabinet was a product that had a plastic body with a transparent door and a full cover. I rolled up the front cover so that I could see inside, and the man looked inside the transparent door of the plastic cabinet with great anticipation.
“For our second child, the color is a bit pale and there is a lot of blue in it, but it must have happened because it was a Russian blue mix. I don't know why it was rumored to be a blue cat."
The man looked inside her moving closet and then raised his hand and briefly touched the door. For a moment, I felt a strange aura and was startled, but the man immediately took her hand away from her. The drooping of her shoulders was his visibly disappointed look.
“It is. It's gray, though it's a bit odd. It's not enough to be used as an article, but I guess I was excited to hear to about it. The report must have been a mistake.”
It was an absurdly neat retreat compared to his stubborn persistence. After he disappeared, we hurried to my sister's hospital.
“Oppa, did you show seri on purpose?”
When she came to a place where there were no people around, Ah-in, who kept her mouth shut, whispered.
"Yes. Did you notice too? I don't even like cats, don’t know about cats well. Judging by his voice and tone, he must have been the one who called from the cattery. I don't know, but it seems like that person was the last time I went to the J-Ilbo to hear my story from a couple in my neighborhood. Let’s go to the hospital and call Catdog Life.”
We didn't even buy a sandwich and went straight to the hospital. When I looked again at the business card I received, there was no company phone number, only email and mobile phone numbers. The phone did not connect as expected.
I went into an empty clinic and called the editor who wrote my article for Catdog Life on a volunteer case for abandoned dogs as a student. At that time, the editor's older sister, who started volunteering with abandoned dogs, said she left Cat Dog Life a while ago, but said that she had connections left, so she would find out about Lee Ho-jun and contact him.
“Cat Dog Life is a big deal, isn’t it just the name of that person’s company? I think the purpose was just to see the blue dragon once.”
“I’m still going to check it out. I think I got my contact information and address from Catdog Life. It was a long time ago, so I forgot about it, but did you have any contact information?”
“········.”
“Oh, and Ah-in don’t go home alone today and tell Hae-in to pick you up. Just in case, go home with him. I have seri with me, so I have to go home right away.”
After a while, I got a call from the editor's sister.
“A person named Ho-Jun Lee is not a person who originally had a cat dog life. He said he came suddenly about two months ago and he doesn't even work for a company. He talked about what he had with the CEO and said he was preparing a magazine while talking as if he was setting up a publishing house under Catdog Life, but the staff said they didn’t know anything about animal magazines and wanted to publish that magazine.”
"Is that so? He is a strange person.”
“Mr. Myung-hoon, what’s going on with that person? When the story of Baek-ho coverage came out in Catdog Life, he said he wanted to accompany him and showed great interest.”
“Did he have any interests in other cats?”
“Another cat? Myung-hoon, do you have any other cats? In Catdog Life, Myung-hoon knows only one cat, right? Is it Baek-ho and that dog, Ray? He only mentioned that. The dog who protected his owner and your cat that protected you from the same assailant. To thnk he would visit you in person like that. He seems very obsessed.”
“……”
“Oh, and Hojun Lee seems to be more interested in unusual animals than making magazines. He said he asked me to report any furry blue dogs or cats. Unless the owner dyed it, why would there be any blue dogs or cats? Russian blue is also said to be blue-gray, but it's actually closer to gray. But the staff thought it was strange because he had a very serious face and asked to report it by e-mail if he heard about an animal of any species and with bluish fur.”
“Thank you for that noona. I'll buy you a meal next time."
“Yeah, there are a lot of strange people in the world, so be careful, Myeong-Hoon.”
Maybe he was interested about that criminal’s story?
Let's say that there was someone outside the police or reporters who said that, even as a joke, and that he somehow hear of it while going around your town. So, how did he find out about your contact information or the neighborhood I live in, and find me in town.
So, he pretended to be cattery and tried to make a phone call, and finally tried to check the blue dragon under the guise of a magazine?
Maybe he was looking around my house and came up to be seeing that I have a cage? Considering that he just asked to see him once, does that mean he could identify what he was looking for in a glance?
Just because he saw Seri and was disappointed, doesn’t mean he won’t return again.
After the call, while I was alone in my thoughts, Ah-in knocked on the door and peeked her face in.
“Oppa, what are you thinking about? It’s been a while since the Seri vaccination was over.”
"Okay. Ah-in, what about noona?”
“Your sister is in treatment and my brother is coming.”
When I came out of the treatment room, Sky approached me and rubbed my legs with her hairy tail. When I come to my sister's hospital, she always plays with Sky, but today, as soon as she came to see Sky, she was locked up in an empty medical room, so it must have been disappointing.
He bent over and patted sky on his head and back. The hair is really soft.
Sky is an older cat, so I felt that her hair had become frizzy recently, but after receiving the blue dragon's horn powers, her hair was shiny just like when she was a child.
I went in to see Ray in the hospital room for a moment, and Ray barked at her excitement and licked my hand through the crack in the door. It's frustrating, but be patient a little bit more, Ray. It's a broken leg, so you can't play because you still have to limit your movements.
However, the recovery is very fast, so I am happy to say that you will be able to be discharged soon.
“Goodbye, doctor park. And see you manager.”
“You worked hard today as well.”
– Ring
Hae-in entered the hospital at a crossroads with the employees leaving work.
"yo! Bro, Hi noona.”
In Hae-in's hand was a bag of sandwiches and burritos. Seeing this made me hungry all of a sudden.
“Ah-in asked me to buy this. We've bought enough, so let's eat together."
We locked the hospital door, ate sandwiches and burritos, and told the story of the man who came today, Hae-in suddenly said.
“I think I’ve heard of that magazine? Feline?”
“It’s a ghost magazine that hasn’t even been created yet, but where do you hear it?”
“Our junior. His name is Jung-min The kid who went to the shelter with you and me before.”
“Oh, Park Jung-min, you know.”
“He still volunteers at the shelter. I volunteered at the Animal Rescue Association and the Wildlife Rescue Center as soon as I had time, and I heard that there. A while ago, I went to an animal-related magazine, and I got a strange report. I think the magazine was called Feline or Philline or something.”
“··········.”
“A dog, a cat, or a bird with blue-colored fur or something, they said they asked us to let them know if there were any reports or reports of such animals.”
"Hey! If you hear something like that, you should have told me.”
“I heard it last night. I happened to have a phone call with him. I was going to call you yesterday, but I was so busy that I forgot.”
“If you hear something like that, let me know.”
Hae-in put down the sandwich he was eating and swallowed what he was murmuring and said.
“Everyone at the shelter thought he was a bit of a strange person. It's like someone who goes to get reports of UFOs. But for a blue-haired animal.
