A Determined Being (Marvel Fic)

Chapter 35: Can't make it? And who decided that?

[Third POV, Year 2001, September 12th, Stark Mansion]

"Sadly, sir, and unfortunately, it is impossible to synthesize with current technology."

Hearing that from Jarvis made Tony take it as a challenge.

"Can't make it? And who decided that? Maybe we should make some remo—"

"Don't even think about it, Tony. I'm not helping you tear the house apart. This isn't urgent—just use a facility from your company and make it your own."

"That was what I meant to do. The renovations in the designated plot."

"Sure, buddy. Sure."

Rolling his eyes, Adrian looked at the element, thousands of thoughts racing through his mind.

'Originally, this element was supposed to be Vibranium—at least that's what the novelization of the movie said. However, it was later retconned, which brings up some questions. If retcons happened, then how would it affect things in-universe? If a retcon contradicted already established and proven facts, how would it even work?'

Snap! Snap!

"Earth to Adrian, stop daydreaming. You can't keep staring and hope for it to manifest."

Tony snapped his fingers in front of Adrian's face, which promptly made him stop overthinking useless things.

"Who knows? Maybe it'll appear by art of magic."

"What? Do you believe in magic? Those illusion tricks?"

"Hey, I've looked into it myself. Magic is legit."

"Yeah, right."

Now it was Stark's turn to roll his eyes, clearly dismissing Adrian's words as some childish fantasy.

"What? Wanna prove it?"

"Sure, sure. If you can prove it, I'll believe it."

"You know what? We can prove it right now. Do you have something sharp? Like a knife?"

"A knife? Why would you want that?"

"Do you have it or not?"

Suddenly, Adrian noticed Dum-E approaching with what appeared to be a knife—of course, one modified for lab work, but still a knife nonetheless. Adrian quickly took it from the robot.

"Thanks. Looks like I can prove it right now?"

"And how do you intend to prove it, kid?"

Seeing Adrian holding a knife made Tony raise an eyebrow. His confusion grew when Adrian handed him a marker and one of the prototype gauntlets made for the armor. Adrian also put the other gauntlet on his own hand and picked up a marker for himself.

'Let's test my hypothesis. If we go by what was stated in chapter 2, and assuming will and power are the same as determination... then I have to channel and infuse my determination... then...'

"You know, Tony, have you ever wondered what would happen when everything goes dark? And even darker?"

"Now you're talking in wizard's tongue."

"...Forget it. Focus on what I'm about to do... AND!"

Suddenly, Adrian jumped two meters into the air while holding the knife, mimicking the same stance Kris used to create the fountain in Deltarune. Sparks appeared around him for half a second—sparks that were both white and black, flickering as they created and absorbed light at once.

Tony, surprised by the sudden high jump no normal kid should be capable of, was even more shocked when the strange sparks appeared out of nowhere.

Then, pulled down by gravity, Adrian landed and stabbed the floor with the knife. A crack formed immediately, spewing black smoke that began to spread and engulf the lab.

"A gas leak?! I don't remember having a gas pipe down there!"

"Because there isn't, sir. This smoke is not normal—I can't analyze it through my sensors."

"Relax, Tony. Didn't you want to see magic?"

"...Fine. I really hope this won't be a bad thing."

Eventually, the darkness enveloped the entire room. No light remained.

[Dark World Made by Adrian: MechaWorld]

"Where... is this?!"

Tony slowly opened his eyes. As he looked around, his jaw dropped, and his eyes snapped wide with disbelief.

The floor glowed a soft blue, with yellow and green lines pulsing through it. In the distance stood walls—and above, a ceiling that resembled the circuitry of a sky with the walls being same. And in front of him, something strange and shifting moved.

"Surprised, huh? I'm kinda surprised too. I didn't expect it to work on the first try. I had a vague idea, but it kind of worked."

Tony quickly turned toward the voice—and there stood a kid with one hand covered in a metallic gauntlet with an eye embedded in the palm. Pulsing lines of energy traced across the surface. The rest of his outfit resembled a robe adorned with a metal symbol, and armor covered his legs and other arm.

"Adrian? Is that you?"

"Sup. I look awesome, right? Although I would've preferred the gauntlet to be black like the rest of my armor and outfit, but red is also nice."

Tony looked down at himself, realizing he wore the same gauntlet—but the rest of his attire resembled a wizard's robes.

"I thought you were the magician. Why am I the one dressed like Gandalf?"

"Things change here depending on what you were wearing. I had a chain around my neck, the gauntlet, and shoes with metal trim—so take it like that."

"And what is this place, exactly?"

This time, Adrian turned toward the glowing fountain and began to explain.

"Remember when I asked what would happen if we went dark—darker than the absence of light itself? This is what happens. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but if I thrust something sharp and channel my intent, this happens. I call it a Dark Fountain—it starts to flow and generates this place, which I call a Dark World. Reality shifts here, and sometimes... things come to life."
