A Dark Fantasy Spy

Chapter 300

A crowd gathered near the checkpoint on the outskirts of the city.

Clerics kneeling on the muddy ground offered prayers, while magicians sheltered themselves from the elements through magical means, maintaining their body heat.

Imperial soldiers marveled at the scene, and executives puffed out smoke from concrete blocks. People of various shapes and sizes congregated, each finding their own way to pass the time.

However, without a doubt, the most unique presence among them was neither a cleric, nor a magician, nor a soldier, but an ordinary-looking girl with red hair.

“Hmm….”

Camila perched herself on the roof of the vehicle, gazing at the cityscape.

“What do you see, Hero?”

Francesca, having returned from a conversation with someone from the Magic Tower Secretariat, asked Camila perched atop the roof.

Camila seemed about to say something, but let out a sigh before finally speaking.

“No! I can’t see even a single ant.”

“Looks like you can’t see anything even with the binoculars?”

“Not as much as I hoped.”

Camila set down the binoculars in her hands and exhaled deeply.

“I bought these from Petrogard, thinking they’d be decent, but they can’t see far.”

The civilian binoculars had their limitations, not designed to see great distances. They were the same ones she’d used in Africa or the Middle East when trying to spot villages from afar.

That binoculars purchase was a total flop because no matter how far she wanted to look, she couldn’t see objects at a distance.

Complaining about it, an older colleague who had started working in a ‘company’ after graduation advised her to buy a long-range scope.

Not only that, but a friend serving in the military even helped her get an unused 56 caliber scope for a reasonable price.

The second-hand scope she bought then always occupied a corner of Camila’s suitcase, which was frequently off on trips abroad.

As fleeting thoughts of that scope crossed her mind, Camila rubbed her eyes, which had become dry from the cold.

Seeing that, Francesca smiled gently and draped a blanket, enchanted with warmth magic, over Camila’s shoulders.

“Has the Colonel safely entered the city?”

“Yes. Fifteen minutes ago, the priests and the magician went in via the national road.”

Camila sighed again and added in a weak voice.

“But I can’t see where they are now.”

“Don’t worry too much; it’ll be fine. Would you like a cup of coffee?”

“I’d be grateful if you brought me one. But….”

Holding the binoculars, Camila tilted her head and muttered.

“I just can’t figure out how they can move in those outfits.”
