A Beekeeper in a Magical World

Chapter 25: A New Kind of Hybrid

All of a sudden, there were so many positive reviews, and they all sounded so incredible, making it seem a bit fake!

Onlookers might even think he had purchased fake reviews.

But no matter what, he was still very happy to have positive reviews.

What excited and worried Hua Mi even more was that he received dozens of new orders!

He had underestimated the power of word-of-mouth and people's desire for better sleep.

"At this rate, I'll run out of honey in a few days!"

Without a continuous supply of honey, he might have to close his business.

Thinking about the tree spirit, he felt a surge of anger.

He needed to find a way to deal with it.

Hua Mi's combat abilities relied entirely on his bee swarm, but he only had four types of bees (including the regular honeybees).

Clearly, none of these bees could deal with the tree spirit.

They couldn't break through its defenses.

"Right, the tree spirit must be afraid of fire, right? I should try to burn it!"

Hua Mi quickly flipped through his adventure manual and found that it mentioned the tree spirit's vulnerability to fire. However, it required high-level fire magic to burn it to ashes.

"I don't know high-level fire magic, but maybe I can bring some gasoline and try to set it on fire... but how do I get close to it? And how much gasoline would I need for such a massive tree..."

The adventure manual provided a recommended safe distance from the tree spirit, and getting too close was dangerous.

The tree spirit, while slow, was still a massive creature, and approaching it recklessly was suicidal.

"If only I had bees that could produce fire..."

Hua Mi spent over two hours processing the new orders.

He thought about the tree spirit at the Witch's Eye Lake but decided to focus on something else for the day.

The new queen of the Forest Swift Bees had matured and was ready for hybridization experiments.

The process wasn't overly complex. The key was to select and breed the offspring produced by the queen after mating.

Hua Mi controlled the new queen to fly out and land on a table.

According to his plan, he would mate her with a group of male Ironclad Bees.

However, while he was controlling the queen, a new idea struck him.

With a sudden flash of insight, a new feeling surged within him.

With a thought, a bee hybridization interface appeared in front of him.

This time, there was a new feature.

The interface still showed the three bee templates: Forest Swift Bee, Agonizing Bee, and Ironclad Bee.

Now, he could directly select one bee template and hybridize it with the queen Forest Swift Bee!

This skipped the traditional breeding process.

It was like fusing hybrid traits directly onto the queen bee.

"It's like I'm conducting a brand new hybridization experiment..."

Of course, this feature could only be used on queens capable of mating.

Hua Mi concentrated his efforts.

A beam of light connected the Ironclad Bee template with the queen Forest Swift Bee.

Hua Mi could finely perceive that the traits of both were attempting to merge.

But suddenly, the connection was severed.

It was like two magnets repelling each other.

"Did I fail?"

Hua Mi blinked in surprise.

This didn't mean there was reproductive isolation between them, but rather that their hybridization created traits that would adversely affect their survival, essentially killing them in the cradle.

"Let's try again."

This time, he had a clearer perception of the two hybrids. In his mind, he could see the traits on both sides and control the fusion process.

Beneficial traits and harmful traits were color-coded, and his goal was to remove the detrimental ones.

It was like playing a game of removing stones from a pile of rice.

However, this process was mentally exhausting. It wasn't physically draining but mentally taxing.

His mental energy rapidly diminished, making him feel as if he were burning his concentration.

Finally, when the proportion of detrimental traits was low enough, the attraction between the traits overcame the repulsion, and he felt that he could successfully hybridize them!

Hua Mi's mental energy was drained, and he selected the hybridization option.

As the connection broke, Hua Mi sensed a change within the queen bee's body as she returned to her hive and began to secrete wax to form a cocoon.

Success!

If everything went as expected, a completely new bee species would emerge when it hatched.

"I wonder which traits it will inherit and if there will be any other variations. Anyway, having the ability to hybridize using templates will make future experiments much more convenient."

It was like conducting a simulation, and the results could directly manifest.

The abilities given by the blue bee kept becoming more and more remarkable.

Feeling mentally drained, Hua Mi took a break.

He took a look around his wooden hut and had an idea.

Idle hands were the devil's workshop, so he decided to act.

He returned to Earth and brought back some wooden boards, nails, a hammer, a measuring tape, glue, and other tools.

Using woodworking tools, he modified the front window and attached a wooden platform that extended outward when the window was opened.

He wanted to turn it into a makeshift sales window.

Since he decided to run a honey business in this world, it was time to start preparations.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

After finishing the window, he glued a wooden board and thin wooden posts together.

As he worked, he heard some movement behind him and turned to see Little Purple Fur.

Little Purple Fur flew over to inform him that the tree spirit was still at the Witch's Eye Lake, as expected.

"That's fine. I'm in a good mood after a successful hybridization. I won't pay too much attention to that guy."

He would deal with it sooner or later.

Little Purple Fur also said that they would continue searching the forest for a suitable source of nectar. Once they found one, they would inform him immediately.

Under the temptation of honey, even the seven pseudo-flower spirits had started working for him voluntarily.

They didn't need him to say anything.

"What are you doing?" Little Purple Fur curiously observed his work.

"I'm making a sign," Hua Mi replied simply.

"Why do you need a sign?"

"Because I'm going to sell honey."

Little Purple Fur said, "Not many people pass by here, and most adventurers bring their supplies with them from outside. They don't need anything."

"That may be true."

You couldn't buy honey like his from the outside world.

The fact that there were fewer people didn't matter; there were no market regulations here, and he could set the price high to make a profit.

Moreover, the main focus in this world was on farming and beekeeping. Selling honey was just a side business, emphasizing a laid-back attitude.

"What should I write on the sign?"

He initially wanted to use "Honey" in the name, but then he realized that the local flowers were from this world, not from his world. They didn't reflect his uniqueness.

He had brought the bees from his world, so he decided to name the place—

Hua Mi carved a line of text onto the wooden board and used a hammer to drive the sign into the ground by the front door. The sign read: "Bee Whisperer's Cottage."
