Chapter 41 Great Harvest
The Supreme Sect is vast, almost covering an entire mountain range. Large wooden palaces are built against the mountain, resembling raw gemstones radiating treasure light.
Following Old Head Yun, Richard arrived at the Supreme Sect's Scripture Pavilion.
Upon stepping into the Scripture Pavilion, Richard immediately sensed a "taste" of history.
Although this grand pavilion is well protected by dragon people, the array of this Scripture Pavilion inevitably suffered damage after the Dao techniques were distorted.
Even with the maintenance by werewolf Daoists, many places in this palace still showed signs of decay and cracking.
The Scripture House has nine floors in total, with spatial techniques used on each floor to expand the space, making the inside far larger than the outside.
As soon as he entered the main door, Richard could see endless wooden bookshelves with scrolls of various materials on them.
Old Head Yun glanced at the bookshelves, turned to Richard, and introduced: "Sect Leader, most of what's in here are Dao techniques created by the wise sages of the Supreme Sect across generations, as well as their insights into spiritual practice. But now, these once most precious things have ironically become the least useful."
Richard nodded slightly and casually summoned a bundle of scrolls.
After the scrolls were opened, the writing on them seemed to come alive, merging and integrating on the scrolls, eventually transforming into a text similar to the Daoist Text.
"Is this information transmission?"
"Yes, my lord, in this Scripture Pavilion, all of the scrolls function in this way."
"So, are there books that are not scrolls as well?"
"Indeed. Please follow me this way."
Old Head Yun was very familiar with the Scripture Pavilion. He navigated skillfully through the sea of bookshelves, arriving at an area filled entirely with silk books.
"This place holds miscellaneous texts, encompassing a wide range of content. Many disciples and elders within the sect come here looking for some inspiration when encountering problems by reading these miscellaneous books."
"Does it work?"
"I am just a servant and not very knowledgeable about these things. However, I reckon there must be some effect, otherwise, this habit wouldn't have spread."
Richard nodded, then reached for a silk book. The silk book's material was quite extraordinary, soft yet possessing the toughness of metal, seemingly applying Spirit Melt Technology.
The contents of the silk book were just as Old Head Yun described, having nothing to do with spiritual practice. The book he summoned was a travelogue, recording the experiences and sightings of a disciple of the Supreme Sect in the Immortal Court's Paradise.
Richard skimmed through it briefly, then put it back.
"Is there a dedicated area for insights on Artifact Refining Technique here?"
"Yes, please follow me."
The sixth floor of the Scripture Pavilion.
"This entire floor holds insights on Artifact Refining," Old Head Yun said to Richard unhurriedly, "If you want to see other things, the fifth floor contains insights on Talismanic methods, the fourth floor houses insights on Array methods, and the third floor contains insights on Alchemy Dao."
Richard looked at this floor that was much smaller than the first floor and nodded lightly.
"Good stuff, but I wonder if the art of artifact refining has been distorted along with Dao techniques."
"The art of artifact refining is similar to Dao techniques in that refining low-grade Dao Artifacts can succeed, but attempting to refine top-grade Dao Artifacts or even Magical Treasure and Spiritual Treasure, will encounter great problems."
"Oh?" Richard was somewhat surprised, "Can dragon people refine artifacts?"
Old Head Yun smiled, "My lord, you jest. Dragon people can't even cultivate Dao, how could they refine artifacts? This conclusion comes from my analysis of those barbarians' artifact refining.
These barbarians exchange Elixir Materials for Dao techniques, not to just display at home for viewing. Over the years, I've collected a lot of data in secret, hoping it would ease the process of rebuilding the Supreme Sect when the Sect Leader returns.
Unfortunately... sigh, it was all in vain."
"How can it be in vain?"
Richard's voice was a bit excited. Artifact Refining Technique was very useful to him and the Wizard Civilization, so he definitely intended to investigate the extent of distortion in the art of artifact refining.
This investigation requires a lot of data, which Richard initially thought about establishing a research institute to handle. But unexpectedly, Old Head Yun had it prepared for him.
"This data is extremely useful. You should organize this data later, as I will need to review it in the near future."
Old Head Yun was momentarily stunned upon hearing this, then revealed a genuinely heartfelt smile.
"Yes, Sect Leader."
...
After leaving the Scripture Pavilion, Richard's next destination was the Treasure Vault of the Supreme Sect.
The location of the Treasure Vault is opposite to the Scripture Pavilion, with one at the southernmost part of the Supreme Sect and the other at the northernmost part.
"Sect Leader, our Treasure Vault is divided into three sections: Heavenly, Earthly, and Human. Among them, the Human Vault is the most ordinary, yet the most abundant. Over the years, my foolish clansmen, along with those barbarians, have been simultaneously mining veins and cultivating spiritual medicine. Compared to previous times, the inventory of the Human Vault is not lesser.
Sadly, the Earthly Vault and Heavenly Vault are not doing as well."
Old Cloud Head led Richard into the Human Vault, which was a massive warehouse that seemed almost endless, containing various alchemical materials and demonized plants organized into categories. As Richard strolled through, he mentally tallied the value of the contents but soon abandoned the idea.
"What… is this?"
Richard looked at the towering stacks of crates before him, his words somewhat stumbling.
Though his spiritual power clearly discerned the contents, he couldn't quite believe it at the moment.
"Sir, these are, of course, top-grade spirit stones."
Upon receiving the answer, even though Richard was truly a World Master, he couldn't help but gasp.
This Demon Essence Mountain occupied nearly a quarter of the Human Vault space, and a rough estimate would suggest there were at least tens of billions of demon essences!
This was almost equivalent to the total demon essence ore of a small world.
"Is the Supreme Sect truly this affluent?"
"Affluent?" Old Cloud Head paused, responding, "Sir, you're joking. The Supreme Sect has resorted to storing top-grade spirit stones in the Human Vault, hardly affluent."
"Were these demon essences not stored before?"
"No, previously, these top-grade spirit stones were stored in the Spirit Stone Vault. But after the great disaster tens of thousands of years ago, the Supreme Sect's Spirit Stone Vault didn't end up among the other fragments.
I didn't have the capability to rebuild the Spirit Stone Vault, so I could only place these spirit stones in the Human Vault."
Richard closed his eyes to calm his emotions. Wealth can seduce the mind, though his fortune theoretically surpassed these demon essences, it was akin to witnessing a mountain of gold where no matter how wealthy you are, you can't help but be awed by its sheer purity.
"Let's take a look at the Earthly Vault."
"Please this way."
The Earthly Vault didn't hold merely pure materials; it contained numerous top-grade Dao Artifacts, along with some low-grade magical treasures and spiritual treasures. Besides, the place housed many peculiar items, such as skulls that bring instant death upon touch, Confusing Heart Night-blooming Cereus that mesmerizes even third-level creatures when in bloom, bugs that continually spawn gemstones, and more.
Among these items, most Dao Artifacts had already lost their original efficacy, and due to issues with Daoist text arrays, many had melted or even exploded.
"Alas, all these are top-notch Dao Artifacts. The Firework Hall rarely produces even one in months. Yet after the disaster, all of it is ruined."
Old Cloud Head's voice was filled with sorrow, despite these things being unrelated to him.
"Not necessarily."
Richard casually drew over a low-grade spiritual treasure resembling a bell. Although the Daoist texts on this treasure were intact, they lacked any coherence.
With a flick of his fingertips, a spark of Miracle Fire danced out. Suddenly, the spiritual treasure was engulfed in golden flames. Moments later, Richard withdrew the flames, and despite signs of melting, a powerful energy wave emanated from within.
With a gentle shake, the bell-like spiritual treasure emitted a crisp sound that cleared the listener's mind.
"It's… repaired?"
Old Cloud Head gazed at the spiritual treasure in Richard's hand with disbelief. He understood clearly that during the early days of the disaster, the Sect Leader's sanity barely endured.
He had tried to restore the Dao Artifacts back then, but in vain.
"Restored, but not completely."
Richard could feel subtle changes occurring in the internal energy cycle of the Dao Artifact. Without intervention, it would revert to its former state within a few years.
"Is it an eternal curse? Looks like I need to consult a Master from the Curse School."
Though Richard had banished the mysterious power from the Dao Artifact, it clung to the artifact like a vengeful spirit, refusing to let go. Fortunately, as it wasn't a Dao Technique, the mysterious power progressed slowly, offering Richard hope to solve the issue.
This type of curse was unsettling, but Wizards possessed curses similar to it, with the closest being the Bloodline Curse.
Anyone inheriting a cursed bloodline would invariably suffer from the curse. Countering an eternal curse was straightforward, requiring only an amulet capable of curse resistance.
Perhaps, this method could resolve the Dao Artifact's curse.
"Sir, let's take a look at the Heavenly Vault." Old Cloud Head proposed proactively, "Though there are fewer treasures inside, they are coveted by immortals alike. Previously, these items were less practical than the spirit stones in the Human Vault, but with your method to restore Dao Artifacts, you'll surely appreciate them."
"Lead the way, I want to see."
In contrast to the Human and Earthly Vaults, the Heavenly Vault seemed as small as a restroom. Yet, it held an array of rare treasures.
A magical treasure transformed from an elder's soldier disintegration, the masterpiece of a Firework Hall elder, a once-in-a-millennium rare treasure, a Heavenly Materials Dao Embryo that could only be birthed in specific worlds… Among them, what captured Richard's attention most was a spindle-like boat in a bottle.
Following Richard's gaze, Old Cloud Head explained, "Sir, this is the Kunpeng Boat. It was the warship used by the former Sect Leader during his conquest of the Barbarian World before he attained the Dao."
