Chapter 21
Clothing Repairs Is Available
“Frau-san, it’s ready!”
Hearing Yuuri’s cheerful voice, Frau, who had been relaxing in the hideout’s living room, quickly made her way over to Yuuri. Usually dignified and brave, she now looked somewhat apologetic. She seemed slightly crestfallen.
Yuuri unfazed by Frau’s demeanor, handed her the item he was holding.
“How does this look?”
“…Thank you. You’ve repaired it so beautifully that I can’t even see the seams.”
“If it’s something like this, just let me know anytime.”
“I’m really sorry. It’s not that I can’t do it myself…”
What Frau received from Yuuri was a well-worn vest. She was looking at the pocket of the vest, which had been designed to hold small items but had broken. Yuuri had fixed it.
Even though Frau is an adventurer, she’s not completely incapable of mending clothes. However, this vest had been used for so long that it was visibly worn in many places. Frau, not being particularly skilled at sewing, found it difficult to repair. The most noticeable damage was the torn pocket, but other parts were also frayed. Yuuri had carefully fixed everything.
Yuuri was skilled at sewing, with a skill level of 50. His needle and thread had become magic items, allowing him to sew through thick fabric with ease.
“Still, your skills are really amazing.”
“Really? I just enjoy doing this kind of thing.”
Yuuri laughed and explained that you get better at things you enjoy. Frau, not understanding, tilted her head, prompting Yuuri to repeat himself with a smile. His gentle smile brought comfort to those who saw it. In modern Japan, Yuuri’s girly boy hobbies had been called “creepy,” but they were highly valued in this world. In fact, everyone welcomed him warmly.
This might be because of the clan, Scarlet Linx. Only those approved by the leader, Ali, could join. No one with a twisted nature was allowed. Even those slightly off were corrected during daily training. Thus, the members who welcomed Yuuri were good-natured people.
By now, everyone was captivated by Yuuri’s cooking. When on missions far away, their only complaint was not being able to eat Yuuri’s meals. It was a simple need.
With Frau’s clothing repairs done, Yuuri picked up other clothes needing repair. Members were responsible for cleaning and laundry, but washing everything was tough. Usually, they washed and hung their clothes before leaving, and Yuuri and the stay-behind members would collect them.
Yuuri set aside clothes needing repair and mended them when he had time. When everyone realized this, they felt bad, but when Yuuri said he did it because he had nothing else to do, they couldn’t refuse strongly. Once, when Ali took the clothes, saying she’d do it herself, Yuuri looked so dejected that everyone saw it. After a moment of hesitation, he looked like a puppy, and even Ali returned the clothes to him.
Everyone was indulgent with Yuuri.
Skillfully, Yuuri mended a frayed shirt. The magic sewing thread ensured the stitching wouldn’t unravel. If the shirt tore, that would be different, but the thread wouldn’t come loose. This magic thread, once sewn, never broke. It also meant you couldn’t undo it with ordinary scissors, but using Yuuri’s special scissors solved that.
“It feels wrong to let Yuuri do all the work alone. I can fix minor frays. Can I help?”
“Huh? But, Frau-san, don’t you have work?”
“I’m on standby today. Nothing in particular. Or am I a nuisance?”
“No, not at all. Here, needle and thread.”
“Here you go,” Yuuri said, offering a needle threaded with sewing thread to Frau, who accepted it cautiously. This needle came from Yuuri’s sewing kit, meaning it was a magic item. Frau and the other supervisors were aware of this, which made Frau slightly uneasy about Yuuri lending out magic items so freely.
Realizing it was pointless to argue with Yuuri about such things, Frau began sewing beside him. Though she didn’t have the skill, she was a top-tier adventurer and could handle basic tasks.
However, Yuuri’s sewing skills were exceptional. While Frau managed to mend one item, Yuuri had effortlessly repaired three, with stitches so fine they were invisible. Occasionally, feeling playful, he even added decorative embroidery to the repaired areas. He reserved this whimsical touch for the women’s clothing, aware that the men might be upset or annoyed by it. Although, he did freely embroider his own shirt sleeves.
Yuuri’s current attire was a standard townsperson’s outfit provided by Ali. His school uniform, imbued with a fearsome divine blessing, was tucked away in his magic bag. Given its eye-catching design, being seen with it could attract unwanted attention, so it remained safely stored. Meanwhile, Yuuri enjoyed customizing his new clothes to his taste—embroidering the buttonholes, adding small designs to the collar, and stitching discreet patterns on the hems and sleeves. As long as Yuuri was happy, the others let him be, especially since it didn’t bother anyone.
“Aren’t you tired of doing all these chores, Yuuri?”
“Hmm?”
Frau, mending clothes for a while, suddenly asked. Yuuri, who had been humming happily while working, looked at her curiously. He communicated with his entire being that he didn’t understand. For him, sewing was a beloved hobby. Even mending clothes was enjoyable.
Normally, household chores might be seen as mundane tasks. Housewives fight daily battles with cooking, cleaning, laundry, and clothing repairs, tasks often considered tedious. Most people do them begrudgingly, knowing they’re necessary.
But Yuuri was different. To him, these tasks were hobbies—activities he loved. Housework was as fun for him as reading or exercising might be for others. In a way, his outlook made him an incredibly useful person.
“I love doing this kind of stuff. I’m happy to help while staying here.”
“I see.”
“Yes, really.”
Yuuri’s cheerful smile made Frau smile wryly. She almost said something but then decided against it. What is right or normal varies for each person. What might have been a chore for Frau was a joy for Yuuri. So, she decided it was fine.
“By the way, who will be here for tea today?”
“The trainees won’t be back yet, so it’s just me and Tifana. Ali might come back too.”
“I see. Got it.”
With that, Yuuri returned to mending clothes.
The tea time was a new routine since Yuuri joined Scarlet Linx. It wasn’t daily, but on days with free time, they enjoyed tea and snacks around 3 PM. When asked if it was necessary, Yuuri smiled and said, “I love baking.” Plus, the snacks were delicious.
Those present at tea time enjoyed Yuuri’s treats. Frau, a dignified woman who loved sweets, smiled at the thought of today’s tea. She, however, feels a bit sorry for Brook, who was out on a mission today. Known as a cool swordsman, Brook had a huge sweet tooth. Though he enjoyed alcohol, he preferred fruity drinks, which he only drank during private gatherings.
Frau felt bad that Brook would miss Yuuri’s treats. Little did she know, Brook was quite content with Yuuri’s jam sandwiches from his lunch. Unaware of this, Frau simply felt a bit sorry for him.
Thus, the afternoon passed peacefully in the hideout.
