Werewolf in DC vs. Vampires

Chapter 31: Winners

It was well past midnight by the time things died down. Bat-girl was back to sleep and the rest of the laboratory inhabitants were relaxed. Or as relaxed as one could be in a vampire apocalypse.

Lucien was ready to make his next move. The night terrors hit him like a warning bell. A prelude to reality.

He now stood in a community room. In the time he had, he threw out the couches and lamps and tables and laid down three sheets.

"This is undeniably cultish." Lucien said the obvious as he stood outside the room facing the others in the hall.

"Desperate times call for desperate measures." Bruce replied.

"How despera—"

"Oliver, rest." Lucien snarled.

"Haven't been able to lately. I lost my wife, if you forgot." Green-Arrow replied and left angry.

They watched him go briefly before turning back to Lucien.

"Should we do something about that?" Vixen asked, "I mean— Ollie is prime betrayal potential right now, respectfully."

Bruce shook his head, "Ollie is family. Id be the same if I lost any of you. I…. am the same. He just needs an outlet. And he'll get one soon."

Bruce looked to Lucien. He could hear him in his head, "Talk."

"Right." Lucien faced everyone. "With Bat-girl's mental attack, any of you could be next in theory. You all grew up together. You were all close. But even more so, Nightwings attack tells us they're just about recovered after our last encounter. They could be more than ready. It could already be too late. With that being said, we need to move with a purpose. The try-outs were good. You all did good. But I can't have just one winner. We can't afford it because we need to make our move when the sun rises in a few hours."

"I just worked my butt off for no reason." Beastboy said.

"How are you making jokes right now?" Terra asked as she held Lagoonboys hand.

"Coping mechanism."

"So that's what the room is for. You're going to change all of us." Vixen surmised.

"No." Lucien said. "That would be unsafe. Since our abilities will blend, I still have to take reasonable steps. I will take three of you."

Vixen already knew after their discussion.

"In the tryouts I was shown three distinct scenarios where many of us were lacking as a group. The sky, the horde and the charge."

They all nodded along.

"Not all of us fly. We don't have enough numbers to justify all of us not being together when needed." Lucien explained. "The horde and the charge function as one. We need large attention grabbing heavy hitters in horde situations. So we're not overwhelmed. And for the charge, we need speed and variability."

"I take it you have your three chosen." Red-Robin said.

"I do." Lucien replied. "Hawkgirl, Lagoonboy and Vixen, will you accept the power of a Skinwalker?"

Beastboy threw his hands up, "This is rigged!"

"I don't know what the connection to the red will do to us. I have to be careful." Lucien replied.

Beastboy pouted, "Fine."

Hawkgirl entered the room, "Let's get this over with."

Lagoonboy followed in after, "I better not hear any jokes about liking fish."

Vixen was the last in.

Lucien turned back to everyone else. "I'd like you all to stand by. Just in case anything goes south and your help is needed. A few of you go back to the food locker and bring it all to the door. All the meat and calorie bars the flash had. Bring them. And sanitize your clothes so you smell less human— don't want what happened with Bruce to come around again."

"Right." Red-Robin and Arsenal headed out for their food run.

As soon as they left, Constantine threw a rune on the floor and suddenly it looked like a butcher shop emptied its insides on the floor.

"Don't tell them. It'll be funnier when they get back." Constantine winked at Lucien.

Lucien rolled his eyes and entered the room.

The three of them stood facing the laid down sheets.

"Everyone ready?"

They all nodded.

He transformed seamlessly. Suddenly he was towering over them all as a blue eyed black furred giant.

Vixen was the first. The safest. Her tantu totem wasn't biological— as far as he knew, so her connection to the read wasn't intrinsic in the same way it was for Beastboy or animal man. She was a human with an amulet. Still, his spine tingled with ambient power as he sunk his fangs into her arm.

Vixen gasped as ancient magics seeped into her. She hit the ground softly as Lucien guided her to her mat.

Lagoonboy looked up as Lucien rose, "Is this going to be painf—"

Lucien pounced. He didn't have time for hesitators or jokes at the moment.

Fittingly, Lagoonboy tasted like tuna. He didn't make the fish joke mentally either since the Atlantean would be in his psyche soon. Unlike vixen, he had intrinsic power.

Like Lucien, he was a homo-magi. Only his powers were centered around Psionic communication with sea creatures, water magic and bio electric manipulation. With Lagoonboy's change into a skinwalker, they would all have those Atlantean abilities. Not to mention he could breathe underwater.

A definite positive.

He laid the Atlantean down with the bite wound already steaming with magic on his shoulder.

"You gonna pounce on me too?" Hawk-girl asked.

"No." Lucien wiped his jaws. "You're not afraid."

"Of course not. There's scarier things on Thanagar." Hawk-girl took off her bracer and held up her arm, "Let's go."

Lucien lunged.
