Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Stand Up for Her
"Xiao Zhi!" Xia Shuyuan was scolded by his daughter, trembling with anger, "No matter what, I am your father. Do you talk to your father like that?"
Xiao Zhi was not to be outdone. "From the moment you schemed against me, you ceased to be my father!"
Zheng Qiuyue saw that a tough approach was futile, so she softened her tone, and with a mournful face, she said to her, "Xiao Zhi, you don't know how much your dad and I have spent to cooperate with Bei Xiang Group. Just by having Mr. Wang lead us a bit, our family company can get some improvement. Your dad made you accompany that old man, and it was his fault, but he did it for our family's sake too!"
She paused, then continued, "Moreover, that Mr. Wang is very powerful, with extensive connections; he's not someone our family can afford to offend. For our family, go apologize to him. Your dad and I are begging you."
Bei Xiang Group? He Jinnan raised an eyebrow, a corner of his mouth holding a restrained disdain.
Xiao Zhi didn't want to have any further entanglement with them in front of He Jinnan, and said coldly, "Go deal with the trouble you caused yourselves. That's your family, not mine!" After saying this, she grabbed He Jinnan's hand, ready to get into the car.
But He Jinnan held her back and after a moment's thought, said to Xiao Zhi, "Wife, how about, let's take a trip to Bei Xiang?"
His words shocked the three of them.
"What are you saying? You think I should go apologize too?" Xiao Zhi couldn't believe what she was hearing, sadness in her eyes. She remembered her own embarrassment, which he had seen most clearly.
He Jinnan said seriously, "Not to apologize, let's go."
Seeing this, Xia Shuyuan and Zheng Qiuyue were confused about what he was planning, but since he could persuade Xiao Zhi to go to Mr. Wang's company, they went along with it. Once there, whether to apologize or not wasn't up to them anyway.
Xiao Zhi, though puzzled in her heart, still followed He Jinnan into the car.
"He Jinnan, what do you mean exactly? If we aren't going to apologize, why are we going to Bei Xiang Group?" She expressed her doubts.
He Jinnan smiled faintly, turned his head to look at her, and said, "My wife was bullied. As her husband, I can't just stand by and watch, can I?"
"You're going to stand up for me?" Xiao Zhi asked in amazement, and then quickly dissuaded, "Let's not do this. Didn't my stepmother say that Mr. Wang has a wide network? Let's not offend him and then have him retaliate against you; it wouldn't be worth it."
"It's fine." He Jinnan uttered these two words curtly. Yet, those two words made Xiao Zhi feel a bit more assured.
Soon, the car arrived at Bei Xiang Group.
Xia Shuyuan had been frequenting these past two days and was familiar to the security guards; he was accompanied to the elevator and went straight to the president's office.
Before entering, Xia Shuyuan warned Xiao Zhi again, "Don't keep a straight face. When you see Mr. Wang, speak sweetly, try to get his forgiveness. If you mess this up for me, don't think I'll let you off!"
He Jinnan's face darkened, and he said sternly, "Xia Shuyuan, I'm right here; it's not your turn to lecture. Don't overstep!"
"Huh?" The three were taken aback again.
Xiao Zhi blurted out, "How do you know my dad's name?"
He Jinnan did not answer but gestured to Xia Shuyuan to knock on the door.
Biting back his anger, Xia Shuyuan knocked on the door, not wanting to delve deeper into the matter for now, with apologies being more pressing.
"Come in!" Mr. Wang's voice called from inside.
Xia Shuyuan opened the door, smiling ingratiatingly and walking towards Mr. Wang, "Mr. Wang, I'm here again, and have specially brought my daughter to apologize to you."
Mr. Wang, a fat man with a broad face, sat in his office chair, his legs crossed on the table, busy with his computer. Upon hearing this, he glanced coldly at Xia Shuyuan and scoffed, "I really can't accept such a precious apology; you better take her and leave."
Zheng Qiuyue, upon hearing this, grabbed Xia Zhi's arm and attempted to bring her forward, but unexpectedly, she couldn't pull her. Turning her head, she saw that Xia Zhi had already been embraced by He Jinnan, both staring at her with indignation.
"Youngsters can be impetuous, please don't stoop to her level, sir. Give her a chance," Xia Shuyuan, leaning against the office desk, said with an obsequiously ingratiating smile to Mr. Wang.
Xia Zhi closed her eyes deeply as she looked at her father's disgusting countenance, her heart shattering into pieces.
"I want to leave," she raised her head to look at He Jinnan and said with sadness and disgust.
Her voice was soft, yet loud enough for the others to hear.
Mr. Wang, staring at his computer, let out another cold laugh without raising his head, "Mr. Xia, it looks like you haven't managed to handle your daughter either."
Xia Shuyuan was so angry that he turned around and was about to curse, but upon seeing He Jinnan step forward in front of Xia Zhi, emanating fury, his presence was so imposing that the words Xia Shuyuan was about to say were choked back.
He Jinnan strode up, disdainfully brushed Xia Shuyuan aside, and perched on the office desk with one leg, angling the computer screen towards himself.
"Let's see what 'little movie' Mr. Wang is so engrossed in watching."
Mr. Wang looked up, puzzled and displeased, and when he saw He Jinnan in front of him, his eyes widened in shock. He tried to stand up, but his corpulent body failed to support him, and he fell off his chair.
Xia Shuyuan, seeing this, scurried over to help him up like a sycophant.
Mr. Wang approached He Jinnan, nodding and bowing with utmost respect, "Second Young Master, what brings you here? Oh dear, I'm blind and deaf, I didn't see you at all. Come, please take a seat on the sofa."
The turnaround was so swift it left Xia Zhi and the others dumbfounded.
It seemed her husband was no ordinary man.
He Jinnan did not move, still sitting with one leg on the desk, he looked at Mr. Wang with a half-smile and said, "Now that the company has grown, have you started to float away? Have you forgotten the words my grandfather once told you?"
"I dare not forget, I dare not forget," Mr. Wang said, nodding frantically like a bobble-head.
"Old Mr. He once told me that doing business is like being a person; if you're a good person, your business will naturally be good. I dare not forget the teachings of the old master," after saying that, Mr. Wang wiped the sweat from his forehead.
He Jinnan sneered, "Is this how you're being a person? Forcing a decent girl to sleep with you? Huh?"
With the last syllable rising in pitch, Mr. Wang shuddered.
"Second Young Master, I was wrong, I apologize, it won't happen again."
He Jinnan rebuked coldly, "Why are you apologizing to me? Do I need to tell you whom you should be apologizing to?"
Only then did Mr. Wang dare to raise his head, looking around before hurriedly walking up to Xia Zhi, he said with a sincere bow, "Miss Xia, I'm sorry, it was my fault. I will compensate you for the harm I've caused you. Please forgive me!"
Xia Zhi looked at him furiously, she couldn't bring herself to say the words "I forgive you."
She walked up to He Jinnan and said, "That'll be all, I don't want to stay here any longer."
He Jinnan stood up straight, took Xia Zhi's hand, and said sternly to Mr. Wang, "You know what to do, right? Send the photos to me later."
"Yes," Mr. Wang mumbled, his earlier arrogance completely gone.
He Jinnan didn't say anything more and left with Xia Zhi.
