Chapter 6: A friendly warning
Author's Point of View
The news of the Martin sisters spread like wildfire, and many people in the city were heartbroken because everyone loved Cynthia. She was the most generous rich person who cared for people, regardless of their status. She helped everyone who needed her help, and she was like the mother of the city. Her death hurt many people.
While Amanda thought she could relax, she sold two of Cynthia's apartments and paid off the goons, but she made sure no one knew about it yet, and all her problems seemed to have disappeared. At least that's what she had thought. She didn't know that hell was about to break loose and swallow her whole.
A smile stretched across her lips as she set the table filled with delicious food, waiting for Victor to come home so they could enjoy their dinner together. She had invited all her family members to live with her and also invited Victor's mother to come and live with them in the villa. All the wealth belonged to her now, and she was going to live her best life.
The doorbell rang, and she rushed to the door, her heart swelling with nothing but happiness.
She opened the door and saw Victor. She wrapped her arms around his neck and placed a soft kiss on his lips. Victor lifted her into his arms.
"I missed you," Amanda said as Victor placed her in the chair.
"I missed you too. How was your day?" Victor questioned, and Amanda smiled.
"My day becomes good every time I see you," Amanda said, and Victor chuckled.
"I've watched the news. Did you start the fire?" Victor questioned, his eyebrows raised. Amanda looked at him.
"Why do you think I'm the one who started the fire?" Amanda retorted, her jaws clenched. Victor shrugged.
"Because you are too hungry for power, and I think you can do anything for money," Victor said. Amanda slammed the table, her eyes burning with rage.
"Oh, I'm the one who is hungry for power? Who went to the office today? Was it me or you? Stop trying to make yourself better than me because we are just the same," Amanda retorted. She rose off the chair and stormed upstairs, leaving Victor seated alone. He let out a deep breath. Amanda was just too loud, and he couldn't bear her. He loved peaceful places, and she never gave him that peace. She was always complaining, demanding, and most annoying.
Victor started dishing food on his plate and scooped a spoonful of food, only to stop midway. Amanda's words from yesterday started ringing in his head. What if she had poisoned the food to kill him, too?
Victor decided not to eat. He rose off the chair and started making his way upstairs. As he reached there, he found Amanda seated on the bed, her face burning with anger. He walked over to the bed, sat next to her, and pulled her into a tight hug. He was just doing this to protect his child, that's all.
"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said what I said," Victor forced the words out of his mouth, but Amanda ignored him. Before he could say anything, his phone rang. He brought it out of his pocket and looked at the caller ID. Amanda's eyes peeked at his phone, only to see a number saved as "My love."
She grabbed Victor's phone, quickly answered it, and put it on speaker. Victor was too dumbfounded to react. He had been hiding Tina from both Amanda and Cynthia. Now that Cynthia was out of the picture, he wanted both Amanda and Tina.
"Hey, baby. I've been missing you so much. When are you coming home?" Amanda's face reddened with rage as she heard what the woman on the other side of the call said.
"Listen up, you harlot. Victor is now mine, so you better stay away from him unless you want me to send you to an early grave!" Amanda threatened sternly. She hung up the phone and threw it against the wall. It fell to the ground with a loud thud, breaking into pieces.
Victor rose off the bed, his hand balled into a fist, his pulse quickening. "This should be your first and last warning, Amanda. Stay within your limits, or things might turn ugly. You are my girlfriend, my future wife, and Tina is my mistress. Get that through your head, or else you won't like the outcome," Victor said, his tone stern.
Amanda's heart raced. She couldn't process what Victor had just said. She couldn't believe he was telling her such rotten nonsense, not after everything she did for them to have a comfortable life. She fought too hard for this man, and she was not about to lose him.
"Victor," Amanda said his name as she rose off the bed. She stood in front of him, her eyes gazing right into his. "I'm not like Cynthia. I'm not a fool, do you understand? I'm the only woman who is going to be in your life. I'm not about to share you. But if you think that I'm wrong, try me, okay? It's either you stop seeing her, and you will live a peaceful life in this big villa, or you keep on seeing her and spend the rest of your life in jail?" A sarcastic grin spread across Amanda's lips.
Victor's eyebrows shot up, his expression reflecting utter disbelief. "Are you blackmailing me?" he questioned.
"No, I'm just warning you. I'm not to be underestimated, Victor. Don't step on my toes because I won't tolerate it," Amanda said calmly, staring right into his eyes. Victor stared at her, dumbfounded.
"Well, my dear, if you try to pull me down, I will be going down with you," Victor said, and Amanda chuckled.
"But everything points at you. How will you pull me down with you?" Amanda questioned, patting Victor's chest slightly. "You can go and meet her for the last time, but tomorrow is our wedding. If you dare double-cross me once we are married, then I will send you to jail, okay?" Amanda added, with a smile. She placed a kiss on Victor's lips before she walked past him and headed to the bathroom, leaving him standing there, frozen on the ground.
