Vector Control In Tokyo Ghoul

Chapter 7: True Selfs

Kana sat in the dimly lit room, her hands trembling as she stared at the faint reflection of her crimson eyes in the window. The city beyond was quiet, the snowfall softening the harsh lights and sounds. She could feel the turmoil inside her, a tempest of conflicting emotions she couldn't name. Her hair, now slightly longer and more untamed, framed her face like a veil of shadows, obscuring the slight curve of her horns beneath her beanie.

"Why do you resist?" a voice echoed in her mind.

Kana's breath hitched. She spun around, but the room was empty. The voice wasn't external; it was her own, darker and more menacing.

"You know what you are," the voice continued, calm but unrelenting. "You're not like them. Stop pretending."

"I don't want to hurt people," Kana whispered, her voice shaking.

A soft, mocking laugh filled the room. "Don't lie to yourself. You crave it—the power, the thrill. You've tasted their fear, their flesh. You can't deny the truth."

Kana clenched her fists, her nails biting into her palms. "No! That's not who I am!"

"This is what you became though. Accept it. Ever since that night when our parents were murdered by the CCG you became just the corpse of your old self. Hell, you probably even enjoyed watching your mother get impaled trying to save you!"

At this moment Kana snapped and furiously tried to unleash her vectors, but nothing responded to her call.

Suddenly, the reflection in the window shifted. It wasn't her anymore but a twisted, grinning version of herself. Her eyes burned with an unnatural light, her hair wild and flowing, and her horns fully visible, sharp and menacing.

"I am you," the reflection said, stepping forward as if breaking free from the glass. "The part you bury, the strength you fear. But without me, you're weak."

"I'm not weak," Kana hissed, her voice steadying.

The darker version tilted her head, a mocking smile spreading across her face. "Prove it."

Before Kana could react, she was dragged into a vision—a vast, endless void. Her darker self stood opposite her, radiating malice and power.

"You've spent years running, hiding behind Renji, Uta, and the others," the darker self taunted. "But you've always known you were meant for more. Stop clinging to their rules and embrace what you are."

Kana's chest heaved as she stared at her counterpart. Memories of her parents' death, the battles, and the bloodshed flashed before her eyes. She saw the terror she had inflicted, the lives she had taken. But she also remembered the freedom she felt in those moments, the sheer power coursing through her veins.

"I'm not afraid of you," Kana said, stepping forward. "You're right. I've been holding back. But I won't let you control me."

The darker self smirked. "Good. Then take what's yours."

A surge of energy enveloped Kana, almost overwhelming her. Her vectors extended, glowing faintly with a crimson hue, pulsating with newfound strength. She could feel her horns growing sharper, more pronounced, as her body adapted to the surge of power. The void around her shattered like glass, and she found herself back in the room.

Kana gasped, collapsing to her knees. She could feel the change—the vectors were no longer just extensions of her will; they were alive, humming with an eerie sentience. She flexed them, and the air around her seemed to ripple with their force.

A knock at the door snapped her out of her trance. It was Uta.

"Ready to head out?" he asked, his usual calm demeanor unchanged, though his gaze lingered on her as if sensing the transformation.

Kana nodded, pulling her beanie down further to conceal her horns. She followed Uta into the cold night, her steps more deliberate, her mind sharper.

The streets were empty, the snow muffling the world's chaos. Uta led her to a secluded rooftop, where Renji was waiting. He glanced at Kana, his usual stoic expression giving way to a flicker of unease.

"You look different," he said.

Kana shrugged, avoiding his gaze. "Just tired."

Renji's eyes narrowed but he didn't press further. Instead, he motioned for her to spar. "Show me what you've learned."

Kana hesitated for a moment before stepping forward. Her gaze intensifying as she locked eyes with him. The air filled with thick static as they both got into their fighting positions and at Kana's tense of her muscle Renji dashed towards her.

He flew into a high kick for his first move and Kana just flipped back. The sheer force of his attack causing shockwaves to reverberate into the air.

Renji caused afterimages with his speeding movements but Kana was able to barely avoid being injured each time until finally a spinning roundhouse kick knocked her off of her feet.

*Bam*

I can read his mind to dodge every hit, but he's too fast for me to actually fight back.

The battle sped up even more when Renji's movements became even more precise, predicting where Kana's next attack might be.

"Your attacks are starting to become predictable. Your next one should try to throw me off."

Kana rolled her eyes at his critical remarks but decided to try and take his advice.

When he did a straight jab to her jaw she narrowly moved her head to the right and instead of hitting him, Kana decided to kick the roof - collapsing the portion where Her and Renji were standing on.

"Good, that was very unpredictable - but caused unnecessary destruction to your surroundings."

As Renji kept laying on pressure during their sparring match, Kana decided it was finally time to use her vectors.

A tearing sound filled the air as the flesh on her back parted and an invisible jagged hand with claws shot out and punched Renji off the building.

"It seems you have learned something. You somehow dodged all my attacks - well done." Praising Kana while flying through air, he released his kagune and shot out pressurized electricity to propel himself back to rooftop. Once he landed however, Kana was already out of sight.

"Since when did the quiet little girl turn into such a grown pain in the ass?" Uta handed him a jacket and just smirked. His response being "I like her. She acts just like I did."

A deep frown formed on Renji's face, realizing that Uta wasn't too far off "That's not a good thing."

Again later that night, Kana wandered the city alone, the snow falling softly around her. She felt a strange sense of detachment, as if she were watching herself from a distance. The streets were quiet, the world seemingly at peace, but Kana's mind was a storm.

As she turned a corner, she froze. Standing under a streetlamp was a man she recognized instantly—Arima. His white hair gleamed in the light, his expression unreadable. He held his quinque casually, as if it were an extension of his arm.

"Kana," he said, his voice calm but carrying an unmistakable weight. "We need to talk."

Kana's vectors flared instinctively, and she stepped forward, her crimson eyes locking onto his. "What do you want?"

Eight intangible Arms with eyes, mouths, and jagged spikes surrounded Him. If it was visible to the eye, one would think they were the hands of an eldritch horror.

In reality though, this was the result of what happens when a Ghoul with a negative RC count participates in repeated cannibalism. A horrific amalgamation of a Kakuja and Kana's vectors.

Arima didn't move, his gaze steady. "You."
