Chapter 32: 32
Pablo's preparation for the night was in part very superficial, even a little insulting if you wanted to see how the boy played with his aesthetics, he put on jeans and a black t-shirt, some leather bracelets and some silver rings and seals on some fingers. This was not for fun, it was to camouflage himself in the environment and to be prepared, luckily silver did not give him allergies like full vampires, in fact his body did not react to metal in any way, but even a vampire would have left him with a poisonous wound.
Although his parasites had not fully awakened, he put on perfume to camouflage his smell a little, he did not doubt that with his senses he could recognize a vampire from a mile away, but what he did not know is if they would recognize him.
As a physical precaution he took his father's silver razor, it was a gift, and a blade so sharp that it could cut just by looking at it, he put it in the back pocket of his jeans next to his wallet. She gave her black hair a different touch and looking at herself with those details she could now enter a shady joint.
It was funny how those urban tribes had come to deform the beings of darkness to the point of idolizing them and transforming them into an object of worship. It was Bram Stoker's Dracula that was to blame, Pablo did not doubt that he had been a real vampire, especially because of the strange relationship he had with the Bathory, a true clan of vampires, with a strange obsession with anatomy and medicine.
When he called Gisela's apartment she came out fully dressed for the occasion, while Pablo would only pass for a somewhat alternative boy, she was a gothic princess in all the splendor of expression, a crimson red bustier, a tulle skirt, black boots and as many rings and charms as she could imagine, her makeup extremely pale and her lips black.
Looking at Pablo's outfit she laughed maliciously.
"Well, luckily we have time between now and Sans to fix you up a bit, with that tanned complexion I don't think they'll let you in where I'm going to take you."
The boy let it be done, a bit of white powder, black eye lines, a touch of black followed directly by a wet kiss from lip to lip, and when he looked at himself in the reflection of one of the subway car windows, Pablo had transformed into a boy who could fit in much more. Gisela was proud, and Pablo on the other hand was delighted to see his complexion as white as it had been in his other life.
They had dinner at a Korean restaurant in the area, and from there they went to one of the alternative bars there. Gisela had met up with other friends directly at the club, that early morning plan had basically been an excuse to have a semi-date with Pablo.
They were having a drink when the conversation took a funny turn for Pablo.
"A posh guy like you, although now the truth is that you look good, what goes through his head when he sees an aspiring vampire like me?"
"aspiring vampire?"
"ha ha ha, well aspiring if vampires existed... I would give anything to be one"
"Do you like them that much?"
"They have their point, living forever, having powers, living like that has to be exciting..."
"Ha ha ha, in that equation I think you are missing evil, crimes, having to feed yourself by killing other humans, what do you say about that?"
"Bah... in this society there are a lot of sons of bitches, even if I killed a criminal or a corrupt person every day I wouldn't finish them off"
"Point for you, although I don't know if the rest of the evil vampires would like that, would you fight against the rest?"
"Man, if I have powers I would try to either go unnoticed by the rest of the vampires or only join those who think like me, for the rest it must be exciting to fight with superpowers, right? Just imagine what sex must be like suspended in the air, with that resistance, that strength, don't you see it much better now and you want to be one more?"
"You don't know how much Gis, you don't know how much"
The only one who understood the sentence was Pablo but they both laughed, much of what Gisela had said was true, it even seemed that her romantic ideal of the good vampire seemed to describe a Justicar. Would that aspiring philosophy teacher be able to kill in cold blood like he had done those days? Pablo had quite a few doubts about it.
They had a lot of time ahead of them, so Pablo prepared to play a little more.
"What would you say if I told you that I do believe in magic?"
"Magic like the ones on TV with cards or real magic?"
"I suppose the real kind, Gis, the kind from stories and rituals"
"I couldn't imagine a boy like you believing in those things, and tell me have you ever witnessed anything paranormal or magical"
"Let's do a test, close your eyes and stay still, it'll only take a minute"
Pablo got up and went behind the girl, she was sitting on a high stool, with his finger and putting all his will he traced the magic seals of a protection spell. It wasn't just any spell, it was a protection against the vampire mark, as if it were going to protect her from someone other than him marking her to corrupt her. In theory Pablo had not recovered his powers, but the seals, as demonstrated by the lottery scratch card, continued to work because they depended on energies and concepts that were beyond the power of vampires.
He put his mouth next to Gisela's earlobe, and began to whisper:
"Asj arl Ashan if nein dar acur"
The next step was already taken by Gisela with her eyes open, all her hair standing on end as if an invisible current was running through her. Pablo took her thumb and with one of the safety pins that the girl was wearing attached to her bra he pricked the tip of her middle finger and brought it up so that the drop of blood touched his lips. He repeated the same with his own finger but this time the drop of blood touched her lips, the spell was sealed with a kiss in which the lips of the two stained with the blood of the other mixed.
When he sat down again on the stool she still had not come out of the spell of the moment, although the return to reality was as if those seconds had been in slow motion in a world in which only the two of them existed.
"What the hell was that?"
"hmm, in theory, a protection spell or something like that, something that will let me know if you are in danger"
"Look, Pablo, if you are going to be overprotective or possessive, you better go home"
"Ha ha, don't worry, it's just a gift, didn't you like fantastic things?"
Although the gesture had seemed magical, special and wonderful to the girl, her will was also fighting with Pablo's magic at that moment, if she decided to impose herself she could break the bond by breaking the belief in the boy. But in the end the deep look of the boy who was younger than her calmed her down.
"Don't worry, Gis, if you have another plan, or if I don't like the atmosphere, I'll go home and let you enjoy the night"
"No strings attached"
"No strings attached"
It was a pact, although after the vision in the cave Pablo knew that something was coming, that in the place they were going he would find the first clue about his people.
When it was already midnight, the two approached the door of the Undeath. They would be the first to enter the place, but Pablo's curiosity about what he would find inside was too much to delay his entry into that world any longer.
As soon as Pablo took a step into the place, he smelled it. It was an unmistakable aroma, although it was very weak. He was sure that at that moment there was no offspring in the place, but it was clear that that place was frequented not by one but by several vampires.
