Chapter 17: Chapter 17 - Time To....

Sunlight slipped through the curtains of Lucas' tiny apartment, illuminating the cluttered coffee table covered in fast-food wrappers and empty soda bottles. Amidst the chaos, the "Vision X-Ray 24H" glasses lay quietly, their tacky purple lenses glinting as if mocking Lucas.

Lucas sat on the couch with messy hair and bloodshot eyes from lack of sleep. The cold coffee in his hand had long lost its taste and aroma. His gaze was fixed on the glasses.

"I seriously can't believe the system's reward this time... Really? Glasses to see through underwear?!"

He rubbed his face with his hand and stared at the glasses again. Curiosity gnawed at his mind. But before he could make a decision, the bedroom door creaked open.

Lena, his stepsister, appeared wearing an oversized hoodie and hair that looked like a bird's nest. Her eyes were still half-closed as she walked toward the kitchen, yawning widely.

"Morning, bro. Why do you look like someone who just lost a bet?" she said while grabbing a carton of milk from the fridge.

Lucas jolted in panic. Quickly, he grabbed the glasses from the table and hid them behind the couch cushion. "G-good morning, Lena! I was… just thinking. Hehehe…"

Lena raised an eyebrow, her gaze full of suspicion. "Are you hiding something? Come on, spill it!"

"No! I was just… thinking about the future. Yeah, the future!" Lucas forced a stiff smile.

But Lena's sharp eyes caught a glimpse of the glasses peeking out from behind the cushion. Swiftly, she snatched the cushion away.

"What's this?" Lena asked, holding up the glasses with one hand. "The design… it's so tacky. Bro, is this some cheap VR toy or what?"

Lucas jumped up and grabbed the glasses from her hand. "DON'T! These are… collectible items. Super expensive! If they break, I'm done for!"

Lena glared at him with suspicion. "Seriously, bro? A collectible? It looks like something made for… pranking people!"

Lucas struggled to keep his composure. "Just… don't wear them, okay? They're fragile. You can't just mess with them!"

Lena stared at him for a moment longer before finally sighing and raising her hands in surrender. "Fine, whatever. But if I catch you doing something weird with those, I'm setting them on fire!"

Lucas nodded rapidly. "Yes, yes! All good, Lena. I won't cause any trouble."

Lena turned back toward the kitchen, mumbling about how weird her brother was acting. Once she disappeared behind the bedroom door, Lucas collapsed back onto the couch with a long sigh.

"Dear god… that was close."

Lucas stared at the "Vision X-Ray 24H" glasses in his hands, his heart still pounding from nearly getting caught by Lena. The purple glow of the lenses shimmered mischievously, as if mocking him.

Lucas, isn't this the perfect chance to test your glasses' abilities? How about taking another look at Lena?

---

Lucas rolled his eyes. "Shut up, System!" He tossed the glasses back onto the table and stood up.

But curiosity tickled his mind. It was still early in the morning, and the area outside the apartment was usually quiet. If he really wanted to test the glasses, now might be the perfect time.

He walked over to the mirror and stared at his reflection. His hair was still dyed in rainbow colors thanks to last night's system punishment. "God… I look like a circus clown," he muttered, running a hand through his garish hair.

Relax. People will be too focused on your glasses to notice your hair.

---

Lucas sighed. "Fine. Might as well get some fresh air."

With hesitant but determined steps, he threw on a black hoodie, pulled the hood over most of his head, and slipped on the glasses. After making sure Lena wasn't watching, he opened the apartment door and stepped out onto the quiet sidewalk.

The morning air felt refreshing. The sun's rays cast a warm glow, and the street was still fairly empty. Lucas walked with his head down, hands tucked into his hoodie pockets, hoping no one would notice his rainbow hair.

But at the end of the street, a figure caught his attention. A tall woman with glowing fair skin under the morning sun and long hair tied in a ponytail was jogging leisurely. She wore a tight gray workout outfit that hugged every curve of her body, accentuating her figure perfectly.

"Okay, Lucas. Time to enjoy the view."

With trembling hands, he adjusted the glasses on his face.
