Chapter 20: Sowing Discord Between the Leads! The Female Lead’s Gratitude
Wang Xueying braced herself for the pain of a fall, but it never came.
Opening her eyes, she realized she was still standing. Her heart, which had been suspended in fear, finally settled.
Recalling the frightening moment earlier, she couldn’t help but feel a lingering sense of dread.
Now that she had calmed down, she became aware of her current situation.
She was in a warm embrace, her hands still wrapped around a man’s neck.
Blush!
As the masculine scent filled her senses, Wang Xueying’s face turned a deep shade of red.
She stammered awkwardly, “Th-thank you, Mr. Xu.”
It was her first time being this close to a man, and her heart raced uncontrollably.

“I’m glad you’re okay,” Xu Hao replied, enjoying the brief moment before discreetly removing his hand from her waist.
Maintaining his gentlemanly demeanor was crucial—losing his virtuous image could cost him dearly, as it did in his previous life.

Standing just two steps away, Chen Mo froze mid-reach.
He had rushed out, abandoning his cover, when he saw Wang Xueying about to fall. His timing was impeccable—he could have saved her just in time.
But Xu Hao had swooped in, stealing the perfect opportunity to be her hero.
Watching the woman he admired being held in another man’s arms filled Chen Mo with fury.
When Xu Hao finally released her waist, Wang Xueying stepped back to create some distance, her blush lingering.
Her eyes darted around nervously, avoiding Xu Hao’s gaze. Searching for a way to break the awkward silence, her eyes landed on Chen Mo, who was standing at the bottom of the stairs.
She blinked in surprise. “Why are you here?”
The moment the words left her mouth, she realized how they sounded.
It wasn’t as if this was a private place—anyone could be here. Yet her question made it seem as though she had been caught on a date.
Chen Mo forced a strained smile. “I happened to be passing by and saw you…”
But his furious gaze remained locked on Xu Hao.
“Oh?” Wang Xueying quickly waved her hands. “Don’t misunderstand! Mr. Xu and I just had a meal together to discuss some work matters.”
Chen Mo’s expression grew complicated.
If he hadn’t been following them, her explanation might have convinced him they weren’t on a date.
“Wait a second…” Xu Hao interjected, his tone feigning sudden realization.
“When we were driving over earlier, I noticed a taxi following us. Wasn’t that you in the front seat?”
He intended to plant suspicion and weaken the bond between Chen Mo and Wang Xueying.
As expected, Wang Xueying’s expression shifted slightly, and she gave Chen Mo a wary look.
Chen Mo clenched his fists, forcing a weak smile. “It’s lunchtime, so I came to eat nearby. It’s purely a coincidence we ended up on the same route.”
“Oh,” Xu Hao said nonchalantly, pretending to accept the explanation.
Chen Mo, however, cursed him silently.
Wang Xueying’s expression grew increasingly skeptical. Chen Mo’s explanation felt strained and inconsistent.
If it wasn’t a coincidence, then it could only mean Chen Mo had been deliberately following them.
Given Xu Hao’s status and the fact that the two men didn’t know each other, it was clear who the target of the stalking was—her.
Wang Xueying shuddered slightly, stepping closer to Xu Hao as her mind raced.
Chen Mo’s lips twitched.
Was that step really necessary? That tiny action delivered a crushing blow.
Realizing Wang Xueying now doubted him, Chen Mo felt a strong urge to explain but couldn’t find the words.
How could he say, I followed you here because I was worried about that man taking advantage of you?
Their relationship wasn’t even close enough to justify such actions.
Chen Mo shifted his gaze back to Xu Hao, brimming with hostility.
It was all Xu Hao’s fault—he had caused this rift between Chen Mo and Wang Xueying.
“Xueying, let’s go. I’ll take you back to the school,” Xu Hao said gently, adding, “I’m glad you’re okay. If anything had happened to you because I invited you out, I’d have felt incredibly guilty.”
“Not at all. It was clearly my carelessness…” Wang Xueying said softly.
The two walked to the parking lot, got into the car, and sped away.
Chen Mo stood frozen in place, staring at the disappearing silhouette of the car in the distance. His fists clenched tightly, and his deep-set eyes were filled with fury.
A wave of killing intent surged through him.
The three years of grueling training with his master had transformed him completely—he was no longer the timid university student he once was.
Those who had bullied him in prison had paid the price, every single one of them.
“Don’t let me find an opportunity, or I’ll make sure to end you…” he muttered darkly.
