Toriko: Gourmet Chat Group

Chapter 80: The Giant Egg

Hiss!

The Parasite King Chimera let out a piercing shriek, its goal crystal clear: tear apart and devour every living thing before it.

Even a regular scorpion-roach is better looking than this "stitched-together bug," Kenji thought.

CRACK!

Just as the chimera was about to lunge, a white meteor crashed down from above. It was Lotta, the Battle Wolf. With a single, powerful swipe of her claw, backed by immense force, she slammed down on the monster's carapace.

SPLAT!

Disgusting fluids burst from the creature. The Parasite King Chimera, which had been on the battlefield for less than a minute, was instantly obliterated by Lotta.

That's it?

"Not good! Knocking!"

Kenji saw Lotta's blow strike the ice, sending ripples across the entire frozen mountain. He quickly applied a Knocking technique, barely managing to stop the structure from collapsing. Before the Four-Beast from the Human World had merged, each individual beast was only around Capture Level 100, yet they could devastate entire landscapes. A Battle Wolf like Lotta was on another level entirely.

Lotta herself seemed a bit stunned. She had been holding back, not expecting the Parasite King Chimera to be so fragile. As a result, a huge portion of her attack's force had slammed directly into the ice shelf.

"You scared me!" Teppei exclaimed, patting his chest. The power of a Battle Wolf was terrifying; they had nearly been buried under the ice.

"Teppei, what are you going to do with that dried-up corpse?" Kenji asked, pointing at the burnt-out husk of Tommyrod. He wasn't dead yet, but he had completely lost the ability to fight.

"He's from the Gourmet Corp... Can't just let him go. I guess he's going to Gourmet Prison," Teppei mused. A Vice Chef of the Gourmet Corp was a high-ranking official; he would definitely receive "special" treatment in prison. Whether the Gourmet Corp would attempt a jailbreak was a problem for the warden to consider.

"Then you can carry him," Kenji said.

Teppei nodded. Just to be safe, he applied several more Knocking strikes. Even if Tommyrod woke up, he wouldn't be able to break free.

"Teppei? What are you doing here, kid? Where's your master, Yosaku?"

Suddenly, a familiar voice he absolutely did not want to hear right now rang out. A jolt went through Teppei's body.

Aw, crap. I'm so dead.

Grandma really came. Brain, think fast! Come up with an explanation! Where's your usual talkativeness now? He might be strong, but against Setsuno, he was just a grandson getting a scolding.

"Ahaha... Hey, Grandma. My master has been busy with something lately, so I had to come in his place," Teppei said, scratching his head with an awkward laugh.

He really hadn't wanted to run into Setsuno here. The plan was to return to the Land of Healing and have his master, Yosaku, report the results to her. All Setsuno ever wanted was the result, anyway.

"Hmph. Yosaku is busy, so he sends his apprentice? Just what are you two so busy with?" Setsuno asked coolly. If Yosaku couldn't come himself, he could have just told her. Sending his apprentice without a word... what was the meaning of that?

"It's related to the God of Gourmets Acacia's Full Course Menu," Teppei explained with a shrug.

Toriko's eyes widened. What did he just hear? The Full Course of the Gourmet God, Acacia?

Atashino wasn't surprised. As a member of Biotope 0, she was aware of Yosaku's mission.

"I see," Setsuno said. "Indeed, there isn't much time left."

"The Gourmet Show Window has reached its limit as well," she sighed. This was the last time. A hundred years from now, the Century Soup would no longer appear here. As for the matter with little Yosaku, she would have a good "chat" with him the next time they met.

Somewhere else, Yosaku shivers: Not good... a death star is shining over me.

"This is all the soup base there is?"

Komatsu stared at the small container of Century Soup in his hands with a troubled expression. This wasn't nearly enough to split between them all. Match wanted to bring some back for the orphans in his hometown, Takimaru needed it to buy medicine, and Toriko and the others had gigantic appetites. The quantity was much smaller than he had imagined.

"Hoh hoh hoh, Komatsu. If this little bit isn't enough, why don't you try making it yourself? With this as a reference, are you confident you can do it?" Setsuno said with a smile as she and the others walked down.

"Granny Setsu?!" Komatsu exclaimed in shock. The legendary chef was here!

Setsuno glanced thoughtfully at the young Wall Penguin, a mysterious smile playing on her lips.

"She's right, Komatsu! This isn't even enough for me," Toriko encouraged him. "If you can replicate it, we can drink as much as we want!"

"Komatsu, there are a lot of orphans in my hometown," Match added, limping over. Rather than letting only a few children get a taste, it was better to put their hopes in Komatsu. They had all fought side-by-side; he was a friend they could trust.

"Everyone..."

Komatsu looked at them all, his eyes welling up with tears of gratitude. This show of faith instantly filled him with fighting spirit.

"Please, believe in me, everyone! I swear I will make a Century Soup that tastes exactly the same!" Komatsu declared loudly. He had to succeed, to live up to their expectations, even if he had never attempted something like this before.

"Wait, Mr. Toriko, what happened to your arm?" Komatsu asked, wiping his tears. He had just noticed Toriko's severed limb, and his face paled in shock. The powerful Mr. Toriko had been so badly injured this time.

"Haha, the opponent I faced was really strong. Atashino said Yosaku can grow my arm back," Toriko said with a carefree laugh. He had enjoyed that battle. It was a completely wild and pure fight to the death.

"Where are Mr. Kenji and Miss Atashino?" Komatsu asked, relieved to hear there was hope for the arm. He then realized two people were missing.

"Oh, them?" Toriko replied. "Atashino said she felt something, so they took a different path."

"Atashino, is your Gourmet Luck guiding you?" Kenji asked.

The howling blizzard above had no effect on the two of them. Even their breath didn't freeze into white mist.

"I believe so," Atashino nodded. "I feel like something is drawing me in."

"Kenji, this is the place."

They stopped on a smooth, frozen lake. Beneath their feet was a bottomless abyss of ice, making it impossible to see what was inside.

"I'll handle it."

Flames covered Kenji's palm. The moment it touched the ice, the frozen surface melted and evaporated at a visible rate, leaving no water behind.

"Is that... an egg?"

Dozens of meters below the surface, a mysterious giant egg, about a meter in diameter, appeared before their eyes. Its entire shell was a crystalline ice-blue, covered in magnificent, beautiful patterns.

Th-thump... Th-thump...

An astonishingly powerful life force emanated from the egg, and they could hear a steady, strong heartbeat from within, confirming it was not a dead egg.

This had never appeared in the manga, so Kenji couldn't identify it. He could only guess.

"Is it a dragon egg?"

He thought of the so-called gatekeeper of Ice Hell—the Ice Field Dragon. It was a possibility, but it could also be the egg of some other creature.

"I've never seen anything like it, even in the Gourmet World," Atashino said, shaking her head. Her beautiful eyes sparkled; this was the egg that had been calling to her.

"Let's take it with us. We can ask Master Setsuno. She's incredibly knowledgeable; maybe she can recognize what kind of creature is inside this egg," Kenji said, directly storing it in his personal space.

With his continuous upgrades, his pocket dimension now had many new functions, including the ability to store living things. If Setsuno didn't recognize the egg's origin, they would just have to wait for it to hatch to find out.

"Yes. Granny Setsu might know," Atashino agreed.

"Wait a second..."

"Atashino, do you smell that?" Kenji's nose twitched. A very faint, yet pleasant aroma drifted towards them, and his cells cried out in longing.

"Are you talking about the scent from the egg?" Atashino asked, sniffing the air.

"No," Kenji said. "It's not coming from the egg."
