Chapter 12: Chapter 13: "The Final Betrayal"
A month had passed since that night, the terror still lingering in Taenus's mind like a dark cloud. But today, there was something different—something brighter. Taenus was at the hospital, preparing to bring her baby into the world. Despite everything, despite Kookie's betrayal and the pain she had endured, Taenus couldn't help but feel a surge of joy. She was about to become a mother.
The hospital room was quiet, the soft beeping of machines the only sound as Taenus rested on the bed, exhausted but filled with a quiet anticipation. The doctors and nurses moved around her, ensuring everything was going smoothly. Taenus closed her eyes, a small smile tugging at her lips as she thought of the life ahead of her and the joy that her baby would bring.
Suddenly, the door to her room opened, and a nurse stepped inside. Taenus opened her eyes, but her smile faltered as she saw the nurse approaching. Something about her seemed... off. The nurse wore a mask, her face hidden. But as she leaned closer, she slowly pulled the mask away, revealing her face.
It was Kookie.
Taenus's heart skipped a beat. "Kookie... what are you doing here?" she gasped, her voice trembling with disbelief and fear. "Please... leave me alone. Just let me be."
But Kookie's eyes were cold, devoid of any warmth or remorse. She smiled, the same twisted, cruel smile Taenus had seen all those weeks ago. "Oh, Taenus... you really thought you were safe?" Kookie's voice was a whisper, almost a taunt. "You think I'd let you go? You think I'd let you be happy with your baby?"
Taenus's pulse raced, a knot of terror forming in her stomach. She tried to move, tried to push herself off the bed, but her body was weak, drained from the ordeal of childbirth. "Please... no," she whispered, her voice cracking. "You don't have to do this... just go."
But Kookie stepped closer, the gleam of something deadly in her eyes. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a syringe. Taenus's breath hitched in her chest. She tried to scream, but her voice caught in her throat as Kookie injected the needle into her arm. The coldness of the substance burned as it coursed through her veins, and Taenus's vision blurred, her body growing heavy, her limbs refusing to move.
"You thought you could escape me," Kookie whispered, her voice almost gentle now, like a lullaby. "But you were never safe. I've been waiting for this."
As the world around her began to fade, Taenus could barely hold onto consciousness. She felt herself slipping, her body going numb, but through the haze, she heard Kookie's voice again, a sickening sweetness in her words.
"Now, baby... now I'm your best friend," Kookie cooed, her fingers brushing over the baby in Taenus's arms. "Don't worry... I'll take care of you."
With those final, haunting words, Taenus's vision went black, and everything went silent.
