Chapter 445: Sudden Visit
(From Blue's Perspective)
"I think I have gained a lot of weight," I muttered, as I looked at myself in the full-length mirror in the bathroom.
"Your Highness has entered the twenty-second week now. So, it is very natural," Maria, one of the maids, said.
"No, I mean, my face too… It doesn't look like a skeleton anymore," I said, still observing myself in the mirror. "I look quite healthy."
"Isn't that a wonderful thing, Your Highness?" Mary said. "It only means the baby is growing perfectly and Your Highness is also in the best condition."
"That's true…," I mumbled.
Although my life was the same as usual and nothing affected me, the war had already started. It started thirteen days ago. Dem did not have to go, at least, not yet. But he started to spend more and more time at the palace, although he came back at night every single day.
I felt a little useless since I had the power, but could not use it.
Ruby accompanied me with everything. I did little paperwork and other things were handled by Flint and Dem. Flint lived in the mansion too. He had to go back for two days to send his family to Rose's parents' place where it would be safe for Rose and their baby girl Dela.
After taking a bath, I returned to the bedroom and after the maids left, I started observing myself in the mirror again, as I truly found my bloated stomach a matter of excitement and interest.
"Are you growing up well, my baby? I hope you are fine. Mommy is waiting for you to come to her healthily," I said, as I touched my stomach.
*meow*
I looked down and found Sapphire trying to climb on me. I bent down slightly and gave her my arm which she used as a medium to climb on me.
"You are going to have a brother or a sister not too long after, you know?"
Sapphire just meowed. I hugged her and went to the bed. I was waiting for Dem to come since I had not seen his face even once today.
It was crazy how much I missed him in a short amount of time. Even a day felt like a month.
"Wow, you truly have changed quite a lot."
The cold voice made me almost jump. I turned to my right, only to find my twin brother standing there.
"Hello, my dear sister," he said, without an ounce of emotion.
"How did you get in?" I asked.
If he could get in, it was not impossible for Azure to get in as well. Continue reading stories on empire
"Ah, I used one of the potions," he said, "to teleport here."
"But…"
"The potion I made is special and can teleport someone anywhere. Don't worry. No one can make it other than me and I have never given it to anyone," he said and took a seat on the bed although I did not invite him.
He gasped so loudly suddenly that it shocked me. "Is that a cat?!"
Sapphire was quite a moody type of cat who got less scared as she grew up more and more. She barely moved at the sound.
"This is my cat. Her name is Sapphire," I said.
"She is so cute!" he exclaimed, his eyes twinkling with joy, which was quite hard to see, but since I had spent quite some time with him, I knew that he was excited. "Give her to me."
"You are to ask for permission first as she is my cat."
"Come on. Give her. I want to hold her."
"It depends on whether she likes you or not," I said as I placed Sapphire down on the bed from my lap. "Let me warn you. If she doesn't like someone, she scratches them, or bites them."
But, Sapphire actually liked him and rubbed her face against his leg until he took her in his arms. It surprised me. Sapphire never acted that way. She was very picky when it came to liking someone.
"Sapphire likes you, it seems," I said.
"Cats love me," he said, petting Sapphire.
"The fact that you love cats is a surprise to me," I said.
"And the fact that you have a bloated stomach in such a short amount of time is a surprise to me. Are you guys rabbits in heat or what?"
"Why are you being so insolent? That surely is not how a gentleman should talk."
"I am no gentleman," he said.
"That said, where did you go after we escaped? I thought you got caught."
"I am not as dumb as you to get caught," he said.
"I noticed a huge black horse and it was impossible not to know whose it was. That's why I left right away, knowing your husband would find you in no time," he added.
"And I looked for you…"
"Oh, come on. Don't tell me you were sad. It makes me uncomfortable," he waved me off.
Just at the same time, Dem appeared out of thin air. He was shocked, angry, and surprised to find another man in our bedroom, sitting on our bed. But then, his anger subsided when he saw the man's face, only surprise and shock remained.
"This, Dem, is my brother, as you can already guess," I said. "And…"
"I know this is your husband," Cyan said. "I have to say it is an honor to be able to meet the King of Querencia."
"It is a pleasure on my part," Dem said, "and I am grateful that you have helped my wife and your dear sister."
"She is not my dear to me, although she is my sister. I do not deserve much of thanks as it was for my own gain as well," he said. "And, as you might know, I am the one who held her down when she was branded."
Dem was mortified and angry; I had never told him that Cyan was the one who held me when Lloid put the mark on my back.
He looked at me, directly into my eyes; it felt like he was burning a hole in me. I nodded at him and motioned for him not to get angry and not forget that it was also Cyan who helped me escape, regardless of the reasons.
He breathed out sharply, in a possible attempt to calm himself down. I kept my eyes on him, in case he lost his temper. Dem had the habit of an outburst in the moment of heat.
The next hour went by, talking about our father and the relationship between him and Dem's mother, which came out as more than a surprise, and more like a sudden disgust towards her and Azure.
"They, in fact, had a relation more than partners in crime," Cyan said, still petting Sapphire, who looked sleepy, regardless of the slight commotion around her. "Of course, both of them were aware that they would not pursue anything more than their goals. Azure did control her mind at first and brainwashed her."
"That doesn't mean she was not faulty either," Dem said.
"Certainly," Cyan nodded. "She had her moments when she acted on her own accord, without being controlled by Azure. So, yes, your mother sucks for real."
Dem looked at me. "It's not like I did not expect it, however, it still is a shock."
"Isn't it?" I muttered. "I am astonished. I mean, I thought they were just partners, but they did have something more than that."
"Can I take her?" Cyan asked. It was a question out of context.
"No! You cannot take my little girl from me!" I immediately objected. "Just get one for yourself."
Cyan sighed. For the first time, I saw him obviously sad. Dem looked between us for a moment, as if trying to understand how twins worked, or to find the resemblance between us.
"We look the same, don't we?" I said. "That's why Cyan cannot say anything like I'm ugly since it will be the same as saying his own face is ugly. But about other things, let me just say, he has a not-so-good manner."
"The resemblance is quite strong," Dem said. "You were right."
Cyan stayed for another fifteen minutes when he and Dem talked about his skill in making potions. Cyan was also fascinated with the device I made and admitted that he had never seen one before. Before leaving, he left a potion and told me to put a drop of my blood in it.
But he did not say what it would do.
"Just trust me on this, since I have helped you escape," he had said and also left a note which was to open after putting my blood in it.
The liquid was clear. Dem examined the tiny bottle a bit. "I have no idea what this might be," he said.
"Neither do I," I said. "We can trust him, right?"
"To be fair, I don't like the fact that he could come here without anyone noticing. It gives me anxiety."
I told him that no one else could make that kind of potion, other than him. If he was not with Azure, probably we were safe.
