Chapter 10: Chapter 10: Clothes Make the Man
The next morning, Shang Yunyian woke up hungry, glancing at the clock to find it was nearly 11 a.m. Shocked by how late it was, he quickly got out of bed to wash up and head downstairs.
"Good morning, young master! Breakfast is ready! Would you prefer to dine in your room or in the dining hall?" Lin'er, dressed in a standard maid uniform, greeted him with a polite bow and a smile.
"Ah... let's go to the dining hall."
"Understood, young master. Please proceed to the dining hall."
Shang Yunyian watched as Lin'er spoke into the small pin-style walkie-talkie on her chest, marveling at how professional the house management team was. It felt like he was being served by a special operations team rather than house staff.
In the dining hall, two chefs received the update and quickly reheated the prepared dishes. By the time Shang Yunyian stepped off the elevator to the second floor, the table was already set with three main dishes, porridge, fried dough, and various small pickles.
"Young master, this is your breakfast. If it doesn't suit your taste, we also prepared a hearty lunch menu. Would you like us to serve that instead?" one of the chefs asked respectfully.
"No need; just bring everything you've prepared. I have a big appetite... Thanks for the effort, Chef Sun and Chef Zhao."
"Young master, there's no need to thank us; this is our job. Please wait a moment."
As Shang Yunyian began enjoying his breakfast and reflecting on how wonderful life had become, the doorbell rang downstairs.
"Young master, it's Miss Yurou. She went out early this morning to pay the property fees and make some purchases. She'll report to you shortly."
"Ah, right. I asked her to help me buy a few suits since most of my luggage is still elsewhere."
"Indeed, young master. During yesterday's cleaning, we noticed your wardrobe was completely empty. You could've just instructed us to retrieve your belongings."
"Uh... I'll handle it myself. Some things aren't worth keeping, and you wouldn't know which ones."
"Understood, young master. Please enjoy your meal."
After breakfast, Shang Yunyian headed to the ground floor, where a flurry of activity was underway. Several staff members were carrying in various appliances and items, while Duan Yurou directed their placement with meticulous precision. Her strict and professional demeanor earned Shang Yunyian's silent admiration.
"Young master, come and try these. I bought three suits for you today. With your tall build, broad shoulders, and fair complexion, these colors should suit you well!" Duan Yurou said, handing him a package.
"Alright. Thanks for the trouble!"
"No need for thanks, young master. It's our responsibility to handle all matters related to the household. Also, here are the receipts for the appliances I purchased this morning. Would you like to review them? Or should I have Ms. Zhang prepare a detailed expense report?"
"Uh... no need. Buy whatever you think is necessary, and just let me know if you run out of funds." It wasn't that Shang Yunyian was overly generous, but his system had already scanned the receipts and confirmed everything was legitimate. Reviewing them himself would've been a waste of time.
"Understood, young master. I also bought three vehicles today—two for business use and one sedan. They're already registered, and you can take a look."
"What brands? They'd better not be too cheap!" Shang Yunyian suddenly remembered he already owned a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a car worth over 100 million yuan. Being followed by low-end vehicles would be embarrassing.
"Don't worry, young master. We took that into consideration. These are all Mercedes-Benz vehicles—three business models and one sedan—costing about three million yuan in total."
"Ah, that's fine. I'll try on the clothes first." Shang Yunyian opened the package, finding the branding on the bag oddly familiar. It reminded him of when his ex-girlfriend Yan Yongqing flaunted her new designer handbag after their breakup.
As someone who had grown up poor, Shang Yunyian had never bothered with luxury brands before. They seemed far out of his reach. Yet, in less than a month, his life had completely transformed. Now, he owned his former company and lived in a multi-million-dollar mansion—things he'd never dared to dream of.
The champagne-colored suit was a first for him, but it complemented his fair skin, making him look both refined and confident.
"Young master, I wasn't sure of your preferences, so I also picked out a watch for you. It's a Vacheron Constantin, priced at just over 600,000 yuan. It might not fully match your status, but it pairs perfectly with the suit."
Duan Yurou handed him the watch, which Shang Yunyian put on with satisfaction. He was well aware of the prestige of Vacheron Constantin.
Dressed in the tailored suit and wearing the exquisite watch, Shang Yunyian's entire aura transformed. Humble yet regal, he exuded a noble air that set him apart from ordinary people.
"How does this color look on me? It's not too old-fashioned, is it?"
"Young master, you look absolutely stunning! It's the kind of natural elegance that comes from within. You truly look like a CEO!"
"Exactly, young master! This suit fits you perfectly. Try the others on, too!"
The sparkling admiration in the eyes of the maids, Lin'er and Lily, betrayed their thoughts entirely.
