The story of how I, who became the beloved child of Winter Fenrir, was healed from despair

Ch62 - The Final Act of Filial Piety

Chapter 62: The Final Act of Filial Piety

Through the smartphone, I spoke to the tablet device.

“Do you still have any intention of attacking us…?”

‘No.’

“Is it because you’re finally able to return to Japan? You’re letting us go because your wish is about to be granted?”

‘Yes.’

It seemed strangely confident about returning to Japan. I had a feeling that it was probably right.

I decided to believe the monster’s answer.

‘Will you be returning the smartphone along with me?’

“…Yeah. That was the plan.”

Why ask that…? Oh.

“You saw me become a part of this world, so did you think I might switch the smartphone’s owner and make it part of this world?”

‘Precisely.’

“And in that case, would the will to attack return…?”

‘Please understand.’

Such a sophisticated response! The way the tablet’s camera glinted was so cheeky. Okay, okay, I get it! Geez, that’s scary.

“I won’t make you feel lonely. The tablet and the smartphone have always been calling out to each other, haven’t they?”

‘Exactly.’

Although the voice was mechanical, it felt like there was some emotion in its tone.

‘You’d like to send that engagement photo to your parents, wouldn’t you?’

“Cough cough!? What kind of question is that!?”

‘They must be very worried about you.’

“You’re way too persuasive!”

I’m genuinely impressed! So persistent!

Maybe that’s why they took the photo earlier… What a sly planner. They’re probably making sure I fully commit to sending the smartphone back to Japan.

The smartphone was already becoming faint, and I couldn’t operate it with my fingers anymore. I switched to voice commands.

“Create an email for my dad. Tell him… that I love both him and Mom.”

‘Understood.’

A new email was saved. I felt relieved.

This would be my final act of filial piety.

A pearly tear slipped through the now translucent smartphone and fell onto the snowy ground, blooming into a flower. With Orb and Tito’s help earlier, it had become a special flower with an opalescent shimmer.

“Question: When the door opened earlier, I saw my room in Japan. Is it connected?”

‘Yes.’

“Can you deliver this pearl there?”

I pointed to the necklace around my neck.

‘It is possible.’

“I see… What should I do?”

‘Melt the ice around the door.’

Orb and Tito looked back at me with concern.

“…I want to do it.”

“Understood. I will support you.”

Fenrir took my hand and said that.

“Thank you.”

I sniffled, bowing my head as he gently stroked my drooping beast ears. It tickled a bit.

The two of us stood before the ice. As soon as we touched it, the ice began to melt away with a soft hiss.

A quick snapshot—wait, the monster again!?

When the door opened, a fierce wind sucked inward with a roar.

Was this really part of the process!? Come on, you should’ve warned me!

Fenrir firmly gripped my waist, bracing against the wind for me.

In a hurry, I removed my necklace and threw it along with the smartphone into the door!

A flurry of light snow followed them inside, allowing the necklace and smartphone to gently land on the snow without hitting the floor.

“Thank you!!”

I shouted loudly, and the door closed. The wind stopped as if it had never been there.

And then, a sound effect of a video ending—“Piron♪”—rang out. Seriously?

The monster’s form wavered and finally disappeared… completely.

…Is it over? Did we solve the problem?

Clasping my hands in prayer, I hoped just like when I let go of the pearl.

May it grow into a flower that heals my mother.

This truly is my final act of filial piety.

Perhaps understanding my thoughts, Fenrir quietly stood by my side, and Grea, who had approached, pressed the horn of his unicorn gently into the icy space where the monster had disappeared, joining us in prayer.
