The Spider-Grind

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Training Grounds

The X-Mansion's Danger Room was a marvel of technology and mutant ingenuity. The enormous holographic chamber could simulate any environment, providing both challenges and training for those who dared step inside. For Ethan, Peter, and Gwen, this was their opportunity to sharpen their skills alongside some of the world's most seasoned fighters.

As the trio entered the room, they were greeted by Cyclops, who stood with his arms crossed, flanked by Wolverine and Psylocke.

"All right, kids," Cyclops began, his tone tinged with skepticism. "This isn't some amateur hour street fight. The Danger Room will push you harder than anything you've faced before. Let's see if you can keep up."

Peter raised his hand mockingly. ""Is this the part where you tell us we could die and then blame us for not taking it seriously?"

Cyclops glared. "Save the jokes for after you've survived."

Wolverine smirked, cracking his knuckles. "Let's see what these kids are made of."

---

The Danger Room whirred to life, the empty space transforming into a sprawling urban battlefield. Robots armed with lasers and blunt weapons emerged, moving in coordinated attacks.

"Teamwork is key," Cyclops called out. "If you can't work together, you'll fail."

Ethan immediately took charge. "Ghost, take the high ground. You are on sniper duty-immobilize the long-range attackers. Spider, distract the ground units and keep them off balance. I'll focus on taking out the heavies."

The trio sprang into action.

Copy that," Gwen replied, swinging onto a high perch to survey the battlefield.

Peter grinned. "Distract and annoy? My specialty!"

The drones opened fire, but Peter zipped through the chaos, dodging lasers and webbing up their sensors. "Hey, Cyclops! These things aim better than you!"

Gwen fired web shots with precision, disarming drones and pinning them to walls. "Two down," she called out, keeping her movements fluid and focused.

Meanwhile, Ethan faced off against a massive robotic tank that rumbled into the scene. As its cannon charged, he adapted, his strength surging to match the challenge. With a mighty leap, he landed on the tank's roof, tearing off its turret and hurling it into a nearby drone.

Cyclops observed from the control room, his skepticism giving way to grudging respect. "They're better than I expected," he admitted.

Wolverine smirked. "Told ya. The kid's got guts."

---

After the team challenge, Wolverine stepped forward, his claws glinting under the Danger Room's lights.

"All right, Spider-Venom," he said, addressing Ethan. "Let's see if you've got what it takes one-on-one."

Ethan stepped up, his stance confident. "You sure about this, Logan? You're not exactly in your prime."

Wolverine chuckled darkly. "Kid, I've been fighting longer than you've been alive. Don't get cocky."

The simulation shifted to an empty forest clearing. The air was tense as the two combatants circled each other.

Wolverine struck first, his claws slashing with blinding speed. Ethan dodged narrowly, countering with a powerful kick that Wolverine blocked with his forearm.

The fight was a blur of movement. Wolverine's experience and ferocity were unmatched, but Ethan's adaptability kept him in the game. Every time Wolverine landed a hit, Ethan's strength and reflexes adjusted, making him faster and harder to pin down.

"You're not bad, kid," Wolverine admitted, breathing heavily.

"And you're not as scary as they say," Ethan shot back, landing a solid punch that sent Wolverine stumbling.

The fight reached its climax when Ethan used his webbing to swing around a tree, building momentum before landing a devastating kick to Wolverine's chest. As Wolverine hit the ground, pinned by Ethan's webbing, he grunted in defeat.

Cyclops clapped slowly from the sidelines. "Not bad, Venom."

Wolverine grinned despite himself. "You earned that one, kid."

Peter and Gwen also shone during their individual sessions. Peter's agility and quick thinking made him a natural in combat scenarios. He weaved through a maze of traps, disabling each one with precision. "Piece of cake!" he said, grinning as he flipped over a laser grid. He was a natural in combat, surprising even Cyclops.

"I didn't think you had it in you, Spider," Cyclops admitted grudgingly after watching Peter disable a wave of robots with precision web shots.

"Thanks, Mr. Summers," Peter said with a grin. "Glad to know I'm living up to your extremely high expectations."

Gwen, on the other hand, earned praise for her focus and determination. She sparred with Psylocke, holding her own against the experienced mutant.

"You're disciplined," Psylocke said after their session. "That's rare for someone your age."

"Thanks."Gwen nodded, her expression serious. "I know what's at stake."

---

As the day's training wound down, Psylocke approached Ethan.

"You're full of surprises," she said, her tone neutral but tinged with curiosity.

Ethan smirked. "I aim to impress."

"You've got potential," Psylocke admitted. "But potential doesn't mean anything without discipline."

"I've heard that one before," Ethan replied. "But thanks for vouching for us back there. It means a lot."

Psylocke studied him for a moment, then nodded. "Just don't make me regret it."

---

Meanwhile, in a hidden underground lab, Kingpin met with Mister Sinister. The two villains stood amidst rows of containment chambers, each holding mutants subjected to horrific experiments.

"Our alliance is proving fruitful," Sinister said, his voice smooth and sinister. "The enhancements are progressing as planned."

Kingpin nodded, his massive frame towering over the scientist. "Good. But I want results. These pests in the city are becoming a problem."

"They won't be for long," Sinister assured him. "Once my experiments are complete, we'll have an army unlike anything the world has ever seen."

Kingpin's eyes gleamed with satisfaction. "See that you deliver, Essex. I'm not a man who tolerates failure."

---

Back at the mansion, Charles Xavier gathered the trio in his study.

"You've shown great promise," he began, his tone measured. "But the road ahead is dangerous. If you're to continue this fight, you'll need proper training—and protection."

"You mean you want us to stay here," Ethan said, crossing his arms.

"I'm offering you a chance to become something greater," Xavier replied.

Ethan exchanged a glance with Peter and Gwen. While the offer was tempting, he couldn't shake his unease about Xavier's methods.

"We'll think about it," Ethan said finally.

Xavier smiled faintly. "Take your time. The offer stands."

As the trio left the study, Ethan muttered under his breath, "I don't trust him."

Peter looked at him, puzzled. "Why not?"

"Let's just say I've read the comics," Ethan replied cryptically, his mind already racing with plans for what lay ahead. The stakes were higher than ever, and the lines between friend and foe were becoming increasingly blurred.
