Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Getting the Marriage
Xia Wan, sitting beside Grandmother Huo, noticed her expression suddenly darken!
She began to wonder if she had said something she shouldn't have. Now, she felt as though she were sitting on pins and needles, her hands tightly clenched together in nervousness.
After a long pause, Grandmother Huo carefully scrutinized the adorable Xia Wan and then smiled, deciding to get straight to the point: "Wanwan, let me not beat around the bush. Last night, did a man defile you?"
Xia Wan felt an overwhelming sense of embarrassment and shyness as a stranger suddenly brought up what had happened the previous night. Her face turned bright red. "Um... yes, Grandma, how did you know? I... I was framed."
As she spoke, her eyes began to water.
Seeing Xia Wan's eyes redden from her shock, Grandmother Huo felt pity and quickly comforted her, "Wanwan, don't cry, don't cry. I'm the grandmother of the bastard who did that to you."
Xia Wan's mind suddenly went blank. She couldn't believe what she had just heard. She quietly asked, "What?"
Grandmother Huo smiled and said, "I don't mean anything else, I just want to take responsibility for this matter."
Xia Wan thought about what had happened with that man last night. He seemed like someone not easy to deal with, and she felt it was better not to see him again.
So, she responded in a sweet voice, "Grandma, you really don't need to take responsibility. I have some responsibility too. After all, I'm not very familiar with your grandson, and he probably wouldn't agree to this."
Grandmother Huo smiled kindly, "It's fine, my grandson is very obedient, has a good personality, and a good temper. I want you to marry him."
Cold Yan, who had been secretly observing, silently cursed in his heart: "Old lady, who would believe what you're saying? If you told me a tiger had a good temper and didn't bite, I might believe it. But now you're saying that Second Master has a good temper, no one's going to buy that! Miss Xia is too unlucky, she's been targeted by a fox of a grandmother..."
Xia Wan still felt a bit resistant, unable to imagine marrying such a strong-willed man. She pouted, shook her head, and softly refused, "Grandma, I don't want to marry your grandson. We're not familiar with each other, how can we get married?"
This is bad! It's come to this point, and my obedient granddaughter-in-law still rejects my grandson.
It's all that grandson's fault, he's done so many wrong things... Oh my God! Why am I so unfortunate?
Grandmother Huo smiled and continued, "It doesn't matter that you don't know each other well. You two were already very intimate last night."
Xia Wan's face turned red again, her hands fidgeting, and soon her ears were turning pink too. She looked up at Grandmother Huo and said, "Grandma, actually, I don't hold that against him, so we can just pretend it didn't happen."
That night, based on the man's appearance, it was clear that his identity wasn't ordinary, and it would definitely be inappropriate to be with him. It couldn't be forced...
Grandmother Huo became anxious, "Pretend it didn't happen? No, that's absolutely not possible."
Grandmother Huo looked at Xia Wan, who remained unmoved.
It seemed that the only option left was to use her trump card. Grandmother Huo thought to herself.
She then took Xia Wan's hand, gently patted it, and said earnestly:
"Child, I know you might have some misunderstandings about my grandson, but he really is a good boy. What happened last night was just an accident. If you're willing, give him a chance to take care of you, and maybe you'll discover each other's good qualities. And, this has already happened, if it just ends like this, it wouldn't be good for you either."
Xia Wan felt a bit hesitant after hearing Grandmother Huo's words. She knew that what the grandmother said made sense, but she just couldn't accept that man.
However, if she just let it go like this, she felt like she might be missing out on something.
Seeing that Xia Wan was still undecided, Grandmother Huo decided to push a bit further.
She sighed and said:
"Child, I'm getting old. My biggest wish is to see my grandson find someone who truly loves him and will be there for him.
If you're willing to give him a chance, not only will you fulfill my wish, but you'll also give yourself a chance at happiness."
Xia Wan looked at Grandmother Huo's sincere eyes and felt her heart soften.
She knew that the grandmother genuinely wanted her to be with that man, and deep down, Xia Wan longed for real love.
Maybe, it was time to give them both a chance?
Grandmother Huo looked at Xia Wan with warmth and affection in her eyes. She slowly said, "Wanwan, my grandson is really a good boy. He's kind-hearted, honest, and reliable. If you marry him, I can guarantee that you will be cherished and loved for the rest of your life. And, Wanwan, you might already be carrying our little great-grandchild!"
As she spoke, Grandmother Huo gently pointed at Xia Wan's stomach, her eyes sparkling with hope and joy.
Upon hearing this, Xia Wan instinctively touched her belly. A complex mix of emotions surged within her.
She mumbled softly to herself, "A baby? Could I really be pregnant? But I'm only 18, I can barely take care of myself, how can I take care of a baby? What should I do if I really am pregnant?"
She muttered to herself as she fell into deep thought. She thought about how she was still a student, her life unstable, often facing financial struggles, barely able to provide for herself, let alone raise a child.
Yet, when she thought about how she had been an orphan, growing up without the companionship of family, a sense of pain surged within her. She didn't want her child to go through the same loneliness, to become the next person without anyone to rely on.
After some reflection, Xia Wan finally made up her mind. She nodded, willing to take on this responsibility. Although the future was uncertain, she believed that with love and courage, everything would eventually get better.
Grandmother Huo, seeing Xia Wan's decision, nodded with satisfaction and encouraged her, "Wanwan, don't be afraid. I'll always be here to support you. No matter what difficulties you face, we'll face them together."
Xia Wan thought to herself, "I'll wait a bit. If I really am pregnant, I'll have the baby, then leave this place. But if I find out after a check-up that I'm not pregnant, that'll be great. I can leave immediately."
Upon hearing this, Grandmother Huo was overjoyed. She had already heard that Xia Wan was a kind-hearted person, and now it seemed that it was true.
Grandmother Huo's face was full of smiles as she said to Xia Wan, "Wanwan, give me your household registration book."
Xia Wan, puzzled, asked, "Why do you need my household registration book?"
Grandmother Huo couldn't stop smiling as she replied, "Of course, it's to get the marriage certificate!"
Xia Wan never expected things to progress so quickly. She was stunned, her mouth hanging open in surprise.
Ah~~~
