Chapter 336: Ch 339: Big Threat
As soon as the inn came to Rein's spatial range, he immediately became serious and teleported to the location. He was in a hurry was only able to briefly inform Lopas and Luna that they Mertha and Flora were in danger.
A fight had started in the inn and the guards who were defending the inn were being overwhelmed. Some kind of special poisonous gas was used which was making all the mages working for the inn to feel uncomfortable and weak. As the mages from the attacker's side had already taken an antidote to whatever poison was in the gas, they were perfectly fine.
That was the reason why even with similarly powerful mages, the inn was getting overwhelmed. One might think of this attack to be a direct assult to the inn but Rein was able to also detect a separate group of quite powerful people trying to sneak inside the room that Rein had booked. From this it was clear that the people who were attacking the inn directly were just smokescreen and the the main target of this attack was definitely Mertha and Flora.
Rein did not waste any more time thinking about this and immediately took action to capture all the mages and to ensure everyone's safety. After doing that he could take his sweet time to interrogated all of these mages to find out who was behind them.
Most of the mages who had attacked the inn were rank one and only a few were rank 2. There were no rank 3 mage present. For this reason it was very easy for Rein to capture them and he was done in seconds. After informing the inn owner that he had taken care of the situation and taking custody of all the captured mages, Rein returned back to his room.
He told Mertha and Flora that the inn was attacked but did not tell them that they were main target of the attack. They were staying in this room during the whole incident, so they had no idea what had actually happened outside.
After telling the two ladies about this, Rein fell into deep thought while waiting for Lopas and Luna to return. A total of eleven mages had participated in this attack. Among them 8 of them were rank 1 mages and 3 were rank 2 mages. For most of the cities, this was quite a powerful force and this kind of power was out of reach for most people.
The Donesier family was a noble family in the past and in their prime they were definitely capable of utilising this amount of power. But the current Donesier family was just a shell of it's formar self. They only had a few rank 1 mages but no one from their family had managed to even reach the second rank in decades. Rank 2 mages were big deals and were capable of becoming nobles themselves. So it made no sense to Rein why quite a few people of this calibre were being used against the Donesier family.
Just a single rank 2 mage alone should be strong enough to defeat all the mages of the Donesier family. Sending 2 mages of the second rank would make the victory even more certain.
But still three rank 2 mages came here with several rank 1 mages with them. Rein was sure that his presence was not taken into account as in that case the perpetrator would need the help of at least a mage of the fourth rank.
With all the information available to him in the current moment, the only reason why the Donesier family would be treated this way that came to Rein's mind was the presence of their ancestor. Just like the security system of the house, there was a high chance that their rank 4 ancestor had left behind quite a few measures for the family to use.
This was a possibile reason but even if the rank 4 ancestor had left behind many things, rank 1 mages should not be able to utilise them to their full potential. In that case the danger such items would possess would not be very high.
Not only that but Mertha was not a mage and even though Flora was one, she could only cast very basic spells that could not even harm a regular human. So it made no sense to attack them with this powerful of a force.
While Rein was thinking about all this, Lopas and Luna returned. Then finally all three of them started the interrogation. For this they had asked the inn to give them a separate room and the inn easily agreed to this request from their benefactor. Enjoy new tales from empire
As for the reason why Rein waited for Lopas and Luna to start the interrogation. That was because he had already managed to test his affinities for this task but Luna and Lopas had not but that also had developed a few spell for this situation. But those spells were purely theoretical and they had not managed to get a chance to test them out in a real situation.
That was why Rein wanted them to test those spells out on these captured mage. Luna and Lopas were very excited about this too. So just like that they spend the next few hours doing a lot of testing.
After the testing was over, Luna was happy while Lopas was not. Luna's star affinity was quite suitable for memory probe and such which was not the case for Lopas and her Gold and Sky affinity. She could still brute force her way but that way there was a high chance that a huge portion of the memory might be missing.
As for interrogation through torture, Lopas and Luna were too young for that. So for the time being Rein did not taught them that. As a rank 3 mage Luna's spell was effective on all the captured mages. So even without Rein's involvement, both of the ladies managed to find all the relevant information all on their own.
Rein was very surprised after learning who had employed those mages. It looked like the enemies that the Donesier family had were not simple and they were also hiding some kind of trump card of their own.
Rein was not blaming the Donesier family for hiding their trump card as a trump card was a trump card only because very few people knew about this.
Still now that a major threat had appeared Rein found that it would be very important for him to have a meeting the Donesier family again to properly understand the situation. So with that in mind, he decided to return to the mansion of the Donesier family the next day.
Just like that the peaceful shopping date plan unfortunately found itself in the backbench again.
