The Astral Dogma

Chapter 58: Guild wars(6)

Pacey's chest heaved as he swung his arm, creating a small, lethal blade of wind that sliced through the air, extinguishing the last remnants of the monstrous horde. Exhaustion weighed heavily on his shoulders, every movement a struggle against the fatigue that threatened to consume him.

Yet, his moment of relief was short-lived. From the shadows emerged a colossal B+ rank monster, a towering behemoth at least five times his height. Its scales shimmered ominously, and a massive blade-like tail swayed menacingly behind it. The air crackled with tension as the creature growled, its senses keenly honed on the scent of its prey.

Pacey, recognizing the sheer impossibility of facing this gargantuan adversary alone, darted behind nearby bushes. Heart pounding, he pressed against the foliage, desperately concealing himself from the creature's predatory gaze. Sweat trickled down his brow, anxiety coursing through his veins as he grappled with the realization that this was a foe beyond his current capabilities.

The monster, undeterred, prowled the area, its eyes narrowing as it searched for the elusive prey that had momentarily escaped its clutches. The rustle of leaves beneath its colossal feet echoed with ominous finality, each step a reminder of the impending danger that loomed.

As Pacey cowered in the shadows, his mind raced with thoughts of survival. The horror of facing a creature of such magnitude gripped him, the challenge insurmountable.

Every nerve in Pacey's body screamed at him, urging a single, primal instinct: run.

With a burst of adrenaline, he swiftly activated his hax, propelling himself out of the concealing bushes and into a frenzied sprint away from the monstrous threat.

Behind him, the colossal monster, sensing the sudden movement, lunged forward in pursuit. It defied expectations, moving with an unnatural speed that belied its massive size. The ground trembled beneath its thunderous strides as it closed the distance between predator and prey.

Pacey's heart raced, the echoes of his footfalls blending with the monstrous roars echoing through the forest. The looming danger spurred him to push his limits, each step a desperate bid for survival.

As the creature neared, its massive claw almost grazed Pacey's foot, the chilling realization of imminent capture sending shivers down his spine. In a panicked response, fueled by fear and reflex, Pacey harnessed his hax once more. A sudden gale erupted from his feet, creating a powerful burst of wind that propelled him forward, narrowly evading the monster's grasp.

With each strained breath, Pacey pushed himself harder, the wind whipping against his face as he sprinted through the dense foliage. The monster, undeterred, roared in frustration, its massive form plowing through the forest in relentless pursuit.

Pacey's heart raced as he dodged trees and leaped over roots, the sheer enormity of the creature's pursuit casting a looming shadow over his every move. Fear clung to him like a suffocating shroud, but determination burned bright within his eyes, fueled by the instinct to survive.

The monster, displaying an unexpected agility, closed the gap once more. Its razor-sharp claws reached out like impending doom, the air vibrating with the menace of its pursuit. With a surge of panic, Pacey focused his hax, conjuring a swirling vortex of wind around his feet.

The boost propelled him forward with newfound speed, narrowly avoiding the monster's grasp yet again. Leaves and debris scattered in the turbulent currents, creating a chaotic dance between the elements and the relentless chase. Pacey's heart pounded in his ears, the rhythm of his survival echoing through the forest.

Through the adrenaline-fueled haze, Pacey scanned his surroundings, searching for any advantage in the unforgiving terrain. As the chase continued, a realization crystallized in his mind – he needed a strategy beyond sheer speed. The monster, though formidable, had weaknesses, and Pacey needed to exploit them to turn the tide in his favor.

In a daring move, he veered towards a rocky outcrop, his mind racing to formulate a plan. The monster, unable to match the agility of its prey, struggled to navigate the uneven terrain. Seizing this moment, Pacey harnessed his hax once more, creating a wall of swirling winds that obstructed the creature's path.

As Pacey sprinted through the forest, the gravity of his predicament bore down on him. Every pounding step echoed the truth that he, a mere C+ ranked warrior, was being relentlessly pursued by a towering B+ rank monster. Fear and realization intertwined in his racing thoughts, and a desperate monologue unfolded in the recesses of his mind.

"I can't keep running forever," Pacey admitted to himself, a bead of sweat trickling down his temple.

"That thing, it's beyond anything I've faced before. B+ rank? I'm just a C+. My skills, my strength—it's not enough to face this monstrosity head-on alone."

The urgency of his situation fueled the self-awareness that survival required more than blind evasion. His breath hitched as he contemplated the impossible odds. "I need a plan, a strategy. Running won't cut it for long. I'll get tired before it does, I have to find its weakness, exploit any opening."

With each fleeting moment, Pacey's mind raced, considering the creature's strengths and vulnerabilities. The forest, once a labyrinth of terror, now became a canvas for a battle of intellect and survival. "I can't let fear paralyze me. It's not the first time I've faced the unknown, but this... this is on a different level. If I'm to make it out of this alive, I need to be one step ahead."

In a desperate bid to gain the upper hand, Pacey's mind raced, seeking a way to slow down the relentless B+ rank monster. Harnessing his hax, he directed focused blades of wind toward the towering trees that stood sentinel in the forest.

With a thunderous crash, the trees toppled, forming a makeshift barricade that temporarily obstructed the monster's path. Pacey, seizing the opportunity, darted through the chaotic aftermath, his eyes scanning the fallen giants for a momentary advantage.

As the creature lumbered through the debris, Pacey, resolute but aware of his limitations, summoned his hax once more. A blade of wind sliced through the air, aiming for the monster's scaled hide. However, the attack proved futile; the wind, though sharp, was too feeble to penetrate the creature's formidable armor.

His heart sank at the realization that raw power alone wouldn't suffice. The monster, undeterred by the feeble assault, pressed on, its sheer size rendering Pacey's attempts at offense seemingly insignificant. Amidst the chaos, Pacey's mind raced, recalibrating his approach.

"I need more than brute force," he muttered to himself, eyes narrowing in determination. "Its armor is too thick, my attacks too weak. I have to find a vulnerability."

As Pacey sprinted towards the rocky outcrop, he felt that I was somewhat unstable.

"Shit—"

a misstep sent him tumbling down the steep slope. Panic gripped him as he descended, unable to regain control. In an instant, he found himself immersed in the freezing embrace of a muddy river at the base of the slope. The shock of the cold water enveloped him, and his surroundings blurred in disorienting chaos.

he gasped, caught off guard by the realization that he had unwittingly stumbled into the monster's turf. The muddy water clung to him, and the treacherous terrain offered no respite. His hax, a formidable tool in more forgiving environments, now seemed feeble and ineffective in the murky river.

The B+ rank monster, seizing the advantage, loomed over the embankment, its eyes narrowing with predatory intent. Pacey, soaked and disheveled, scrambled to find solid ground, the fear palpable in every strained breath.

"Looks like this is its territory," he muttered through gritted teeth, the gravity of the situation settling upon him like a suffocating weight.

The monster, emboldened by the advantage the environment provided, growled menacingly, its massive form casting a foreboding shadow over Pacey's precarious position.

The river's current tugged at him, complicating every attempt to regain his footing. Mud-slicked rocks threatened to betray him with each step. Panic intertwined with the chill that clung to his soaked clothes, and Pacey's mind raced to devise a plan amidst the disorienting chaos.

His hax, now a liability in the waterlogged arena, sparked frustration. "Useless here," he muttered bitterly, frustration etched across his face.

The realization that he was out of his element fueled a surge of determination. "I can't let this be the end. I need to escape, find a way out of this mess."

In the mire of the muddy river, a fleeting memory surfaced in Pacey's mind, a recollection of a conversation not so long ago.

A cold breeze whispered through the trees as Cassidy's words echoed in Pacey's memory. "Pacey, your hax and mine aren't so different from one another."

Pacey, arms crossed and skeptical, responded with a dismissive, "So what?"

Cassidy, undeterred, twirled his finger, conjuring water that hovered in the air. "Water and wind," he mused, "are concepts that closely resemble freedom."

Pacey, growing impatient, demanded clarification.

 "What are you getting at?"

Cassidy, with a mischievous glint in his eye, splashed water onto Pacey's face, a playful gesture underlining his point.

playful gesture, Cassidy's voice resonated, "I'm saying you have the potential to be as strong, if not stronger than me."

"Don't be afraid to take a page out of my book; you might learn something for once," Cassidy's voice echoed in Pacey's memory, a reminder that now played a crucial role in the heat of the moment.

Annoyance etched across Pacey's face at the timing of this recollection, but he quelled the frustration, realizing there might indeed be something to learn.

Focusing his ether, the mana that coursed through his body, Pacey drew inspiration from Cassidy's mastery over water. With a determined gaze, he summoned a small whirlpool in the muddy river, the water dancing in response to his newfound control.

The colossal B+ rank monster, undeterred, approached with ominous intent. Pacey, drawing from the depths of his potential, channeled more ether into the whirlpool. What began as a modest vortex steadily grew in size, the water ascending into the air like a liquid cyclone.

As the water tornado expanded, a grin of exhilaration crept across Pacey's face. The wind caught the spiraling water above, transforming the humble whirlpool into a magnificent spectacle—a towering water tornado. The forest bore witness to this elemental display, a clash between the forces of nature and the monstrous intruder.

{Tempest}

The monster, now faced with an unexpected tempest, roared in defiance. The water tornado, however, had become an unstoppable force of its own. With a surge of satisfaction, Pacey directed the swirling vortex towards the approaching menace.

The clash of elements erupted in a climax of power and spectacle. The water tornado enveloped the monster, lifting it off its feet in a spectacular display of nature's fury. Helpless against the watery tempest, the colossal adversary was carried away off a cliff.

In the stadium, watching the screen, Cassidy almost leaped out of his seat in excitement and surprise.

"He actually did it!" Cassidy exclaimed, his eyes widening in astonishment.

Tired and drained, Pacey sank down by a nearby tree, the adrenaline of battle slowly giving way to the weariness that clung to him. He gazed up at the sky, the dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves above. A moment of respite allowed him to reflect on the intense encounter with the B+ rank monster.

In the digital display projected in the sky, his score gleamed in bright blue, a tangible representation of his achievements.

Troxil:3780

Raven:3500

Pacey:3000

Although he knew he wasn't yet on the level of Troxil or Cassidy, a genuine smile of satisfaction graced Pacey's fatigued face. Despite the exhaustion, the sense of accomplishment warmed him. Being among the top three was no small feat, and the recognition of his progress filled him with a quiet pride.

Momentarily closing his eyes, Pacey heard a haunting voice pierce through the serene aftermath.

"Coward."
