Chapter 107: Team Rocket’s Second-in-Command! [107]
Dragonair stepped in to replace Gyarados, facing off against Scyther.
Seeing the opponent change, Scyther let out a breath of relief.
Gyarados's Intimidate had been weighing on it, and its tough, armored body made finding a weak spot difficult.
Now, facing a Dragonair without that imposing armor, Scyther thought this would be a much easier battle.
With renewed confidence, Scyther crossed its blades and beat its wings, charging at Dragonair as a green blur.
"X-Scissor!"
Scyther was certain that, with its speed, this strike would land solidly, dealing a powerful blow to Dragonair!
But Scyther had no idea of the strength Luo Yuan's Dragonair possessed.
Unlike the visibly formidable Gyarados, Dragonair's elegance masked its true power.
Without needing any command from Luo Yuan, Dragonair instinctively set up a defense as Scyther lunged.
A blue barrier materialized in front of it.
"Protect!"
Thud!
X-Scissor clashed against the shield, only managing to leave faint scratches.
"Damn it! Scyther, use Air Slash!" Yas shouted.
It wasn't surprising that Protect had stopped their attack, so Yas quickly issued another command.
But Dragonair, well-trained by Luo Yuan, knew exactly how to handle fast-paced opponents like this.
Dragonair's horn sparked, shooting out a golden arc that crackled in the air and quickly enveloped the charging Scyther.
"Thunder Wave!"
Zzzzt!
Electric currents spread over Scyther's body, paralyzing it.
"Not good!" Yas gasped.
With paralysis, Scyther's primary advantage—its speed—was now a disadvantage, slowing it down significantly.
Taking this opportunity, Dragonair's tail swung around, aiming right for Scyther.
"Dragon Tail!"
Smash!
Though Scyther managed to raise its blades to block, Dragonair's tail struck with enough force to send it flying.
Crash!
Scyther smashed into a nearby building, leaving a gaping hole in the wall.
But rather than being upset, the townspeople watching from their windows wore looks of excitement.
"Nice shot!"
"Get rid of those thugs!"
The cheers from Dark City's residents made Luo Yuan raise an eyebrow.
These gym leaders had left such a terrible reputation in Dark City, yet they still dreamed of becoming official Gym Trainers.
People seemed to forget that Gym Trainers weren't just badge-givers; they also protected cities in cooperation with the League.
Did these two honestly think the League would pick Gym Trainers based solely on strength?
"Damn it, my Scyther!"
Yas, ignoring the angry shouts of the townspeople, scowled furiously.
The townspeople's opinions didn't matter to him—and they never had.
With Scyther down, how was he supposed to compete with Kaz's gym?
Just as he was processing this, a yellow blur zipped past him, followed by a loud crash.
Boom!
Electabuzz was slammed into another building, leaving it sprawled against the broken wall, barely able to stand.
Charmeleon, who had been battling Electabuzz, calmly lowered its claw, blowing a small flame and casting an unimpressed glance.
Electabuzz was down for the count, courtesy of Charmeleon.
"..."
Kaz and Yas both stared at their defeated Pokémon, then turned their eyes to Luo Yuan.
"Who... who are you?"
They couldn't believe a random passerby could be this strong.
"Are you here to defeat us so you can become Dark City's Gym Trainer?" they demanded, suddenly united against a common foe.
At this, the townsfolk hiding behind their windows exchanged hopeful glances.
If this Trainer, who had bested both gyms, could become Dark City's Gym Trainer, they wouldn't have to worry about Yas and Kaz terrorizing them any longer.
For a brief moment, all eyes sparkled with hope.
"Gym Trainer? Not interested. I'm just a passerby who didn't like what I saw," Luo Yuan replied, absentmindedly stroking the Eevee in his arms.
If they were offering a Champion title, then maybe he'd consider it.
But the job of Gym Trainer, with all its responsibilities and meager pay, didn't interest him in the slightest.
At that moment, Slowpoke and Porygon returned, having driven off a few minor trainers. They took their positions by his side.
Hearing that Luo Yuan wasn't here to take over as a Gym Trainer, the townsfolk looked disappointed, but Yas and Kaz seemed to relax a bit.
"It's clear we were wrong before, and we apologize for any offense," Yas said hastily.
"Please, sir, what will it take for you to leave Dark City?" Kaz added.
At their apology, Luo Yuan just chuckled. "You've already resorted to bullying and intimidating Trainers. If an apology could fix things, what would we need police for?"
He gestured to the damage around them. "I don't know why Dark City doesn't have its own Officer Jenny, but I've already contacted Fuchsia City's police."
"I've recorded everything you've said, and it'll all be admissible in court."
Kaz and Yas's faces twisted in rage as they stared at the phone in Luo Yuan's hand.
"You... bastard!"
Luo Yuan's move had effectively crushed their chances of ever becoming Gym Trainers.
In desperation, Kaz and Yas lunged forward, hoping to seize the phone.
But before they could get close, Slowpoke reacted instantly, using Psychic to stop them in their tracks.
Thud!
They found themselves rooted in place, their legs unable to move, before they toppled forward, falling face-first at Luo Yuan's feet, anger and helplessness written on their faces.
Ignoring the two fallen gym leaders, Luo Yuan turned to address the remaining trainers.
"If you'd rather not go down with them, be warned—when the police arrive, they won't be showing any mercy," he said, casting a glance over the gathered trainers.
Hearing Luo Yuan's words, the trainers snapped out of their shock.
They'd been following Kaz and Yas in the hope of securing positions in a future official gym, thinking that with that experience, they might one day land official positions in the League.
But if Officer Jenny arrived to find out they'd caused so much damage to the town, she'd show them no leniency.
With this grim realization, they shivered, quickly recalling their Pokémon and fleeing in every direction, scattering like startled birds and beasts.
