Chapter 1: My Beginning
// Third Point Perspective //
In the purple, dark void a silhouette emerged. Drifting aimlessly in the seamless darkness. Still processing the fact that he had died.
So where was this place? It certainly doesn't fit the description of neither Heaven or that of Hell. Not that he believed in religion. He just merely considered the possibility. For he couldn't move nor feel anything, so his mind naturally resurfaced any recollection of where this might be.
"Ahh! Is there another one!?" he recognized that the voice belonged to a female but couldn't comprehend the language in which they spoke. It doesn't sound like anything he had ever heard of.
The fact that he could possibly be in coma crossed his mind but it was dismissed. He let his eyes wander but couldn't see anything else other than the overwhelming darkness.
"Keep on pushing, honey!" It sounded like it came from a man. His tone encouraging and anxious. Although, our main character couldn't tell a word they were saying, he could at least tell the intention behind them.
Or he hoped.
He wasn't an expert on the matter of linguistics but he has experience at least. As his thoughts drifted in the background the voices had kept on.
Suddenly his retina were filled with light. Predominantly by a pinkish colour that stemmed from light going through your eyelids. Flickering his eyes, they slowly adjusted to the intensity and picked up more different colours.
The first thing that came to mind was the fact that there were no ceiling lights. He felt heat and pressure arising from hands that covered his entire back and even more which was strange cause he was an adult of average size and normally that wasn't possible.
But now he stared right at two blue orbs glistening by how wet they were. He remained silent as that would be the safest option in these kinds of situations. Maybe he was kidnapped?
He looked around for more clues but it was difficult to adjust his neck so he just relied on his eyes. But couldn't see much other than the ceiling so he inspected the individual in front him.
He had a ashy coloured patch of hair and a unkept beard. He had thick brows and lashes giving him that serious vibe. To sum it up, he was charming. His eyes was this deep saturated glow of blue.
While inspecting our main character, he scrunched his brows and lifted his head. All the little baby could register was a worried look and a bunch of words though. There was another light but crunchy voice that also belonged to a man but the baby couldn't see.
But his curiosity was quenched as the giant man moved. He saw a glimpse of auburn hair which was rather hard to miss actually.
The realization sank in rather quick as the man positioned himself next to the woman. She was beautiful and he could tell she radiated a motherly warmth from just a glance even though her glowing hair was disheveled and strands clinging to face from sweatinh. She was noticeably warn out while cradling a baby in her arms.
He wasn't kidnapped.
Before he jumped futher down the rabbit hole he attempted to move his arm but all he could muster was a flail. It was pathetic in his opinion but to the now confirmed couple it was a sign he wanted his 'mama' and made an "aw" sound.
He was somehow someway essentially reborn.
His soul somehow traversed space after death and now he was here. Trapped in this tiny body with limpy arms.
Unknown to him though, he needed worry cause this was a familiar place, he just hadn't recognized that yet. He had recognized the oddly familiar faces and in due time he will realize where he is.
.....
It's been a few days since, Virion, had came to this 'new' world. He still couldn't understand a word coming out his parents mouths but could recognize the repeating sound 'Virion' coming from their mouths when talking to him so he concluded that that was his name.
His daily routine consists of sleeping, being breastfed and then changing his diaper. To Virion, they were strangers and he couldn't just magically see them as family. So, of course being taken care of in this manner sparked this tinge of embarrassment in him but he bared with it as he understood his predicament.
He can't survive on his own.
On top of that, his underdeveloped mental faculties didn't allow him much freedom to explore his thoughts and analyze the new language. It was frustrating him a bit, not being able to do anything.
Along with his twin which he didn't know the gender of or even their name, they were just there.
His parents though appeared to be well off. The house or rather mansion was a clear indication but their clothes didn't reflect that which raised questions. He hasn't seen any other new faces so far but to be fair he sleeps most of the day.
There ware many things he didn't know cause of the language barrier and his lacking physical prowess like for example his appearance which he is kinda excited for. Hoping he has inherited at least some of the good genes from his parents.
Who wouldn't?
.....
At least now he some grasp of what they are saying after a couple of months albeit a little. He had lost track of time while immersing him in the new found language. After his mother, Alice, read him a childrens book to put him to sleep.
He assigned himself a side quest. To learn how to crawl. It is still difficult to manage but at least he can lift up his upper body and somehow flail the rest of his body with with his weak core muscles. But soon enough he will be able to visit the study room like his predecessor.
"Huh?" Alice came in and catches Virion standing upright while using his crib's railings as support. Although his leg muscles gave up and he collapses on his bum.
"My little Virion is growing up so fast! " she comically cried walking towards his crib.
"Up we go~." Alice picked up Virion. "You are probably hungry, huh? Let's feed you first while your sister is still asleep."
He barely understood what was said by he managed to fill in the gaps to create a somewhat full sentence. It was quite tuff but learning in such a practical way yielded faster results he imagined.
Nonetheless, he sighed cause although he was making progress he still faced this predicament everyday. But he assured himself with the fact that the time when he no lnger needs only milk as a source of nutrition is almost upon him.
With his tummy full it was now Ellie's turn as she had awoken with a little cry for her mommy. Her auburn hair a total mess with teary wide eyes. Alice sat Virion on the bed while she went to pick up Ellie.
"You seem to be a handful, Ellie. Both your brothers doesn't cry as much." Alice chuckled a little as if remembering something funny. "Or maybe you are the normal one."
Virion though couldn't understand what she was saying though. Or rather his eyes caught his little and somewhat chubby visage in the mirror across from his parent's bed.
Staring back at him equally as stunned with a single sapphire blue eye and the other a pale silver eye. Black hair reminiscent of his father's hair, Reynolds, with here and there a few streaks of gray and a baby face that he seems to have inherited from Alice.
"Ahhh." he left out a involuntary "awe" at his appearance which didn't go unnoticed by Alice.
"Look at you~" Alice had a little laugh. Again, reminiscing the old days.
.....
"Aww! Look at his adorable little eyes." Tabitha used her baby voice while doting on Virion while he remained unimpressed. He sat upright in between the two woman adverting his eyes from Tabitha to Lilia and Ellie playing.
Tabitha sighed.
On the other hand Lilia, her daughter, had a much easier time with Ellie, playing pika-boo.
"Don't worry. He is more of a listener."
"What do you mean?" she leaned forward taking a sip from her beverage before putting back on the coffee table.
"He likes stories and books. He would often not go to sleep if I don't read him a story." she smiled. "He would even try to read it himself."
"Can he even read?" Tabitha inquired on the unusual topic. "I mean, he is only around a year old now."
"While he does try, it's mostly filled with pictures and simple words. So it's minimal at best." Alice informed her while patting the boy in question on the head.
"I see but that is still quite the achievement." Tabitha was surprised. "Your son may actually be a genius, Alice."
"Oh, really?" she chuckled nervously but tried to hide it. "Even if that is the case, he still just a little baby boy now."
Virion though, had no reaction to those words or rather he appears oblivious since he couldn't exactly decipher the words.
He was a bit concerned about the attention he might attract since he still doesn't know what this world is all about. All he had gathered till now was that it appeared to be quite behind in technology and the fact that people traded in either gold, silver or copper coins.
People also carried weapons like swords or bows in public. Some also with armor.
Sounds like a real isekai story honestly. But he hasn't encountered any phenomena suggesting that magic exists in this world. So he can't say with certainty that this is another world but perhaps just a younger Earth.
And it's also true. It might be easier to talk now but his reading progress was quite slow due to his limited hours awake. He scooted forward a bit till he was on the edge of the sofa. And he slowly turned him on his stomach.
"You need help, honey?" Alice asked as she watched Virion wiggle his one leg till he grazed the ground.
"It's pfine." he breathed as he pushed himself of and landed on his one leg first then the other. But his ankle bends, losing his balance, he falls backward on his bum hitting his head against the coffee table with a loud thud.
Oops.
"Ah! Virion! " Alice exhaled and quickly leaned down and lifted Virion in her embrace. Ellie and Lilia also turned their heads to see what happened.
"Such a strong little guy, huh? Alice." Tabitha commented on the fact that Vrion hadn't cried.
"Yeah. But just to ease the pain..." she leaned back in the sofa and put Virion in her lap. She held her hand over his head. Virion was confused at first. Was this their way of a boo-boo kiss? Or are they perhaps cultists?
All those thoughts disappeared as soon as he saw an intensifying neon green light emit from her hand.
Wow.
He felt the slight tingling disappear.
He had never expected this outcome. This was indeed another world.
.....
Another six or seven months has passed since the discovery of magic. He was more determined than ever and has made great strides.
Literally.
He can walk now albeit barely but for now he sticks to crawling cause it's faster. And now he was zooming toward what has become a hotspot for him - the study. He was waiting all morning to dodge Alice as soon as she looked away to tend to Ellie's diaper.
He was atop a stool reaching for the the third rack from the bottom for a book that he has been wanting. Now that he was advanced enough he can finally read it. It was really all thanks to Alice having tutored him a few months back with story books of what he assumes is on a similar level.
He grasps the book between his fingers, and hoisted it in his arms as it was quite heavy for only one arm. He throws it down and then gets down himself.
He then layed on his stomach while turning the cover over.
This world consists of a single continent - Dicathen, it comprised of three major Kingdoms.
Elenoir, home to the Elves deep in the forest.
Darv, the vast underground Kingdom of the Dwarsves.
And Sapin, the Human Kingdom, and easily the most-populated region in the continent.
As it he read futher, ithe description appeared a bit familiar but he couldn't exactly bring up the exact memory. If he just could translate the actual names to English he could've probably remembered it more easier but unfortunately it wasn't as easy.
But maybe someday.
Even now he has relied on objects that both worlds shared in order to translate them. Like an Elf for example.
'Elf' is pronounced like this which is beings that bare a similar appearance to humans but has pointy ears and generally has a longer life span. That would equate to an Elf in his old world.
But he couldn't do the same for proper nouns.
"Let's read the next one." he sighed and stood up. Luckily this book was only at the second rack so he didn't need to climb up the stool again.
Since he saw his mother's Healing Magic he has always wondered what other powers there were and how it operated. He often listen to his father's ramblings about his younger days where he fought beasts with magic abilities.
It sounded generic but maybe there was mkre to it.
He read the cover, "Beginners Guide for the Privileged Mage."
Mana.
It is a phenomenon that is present everywhere and is brought forth by nature. The power to control and harness it is largely genetic. As among humans only one out of a hundred children possess it.
In theory, the applications of Mana are near infinite in number. Among people though, the most common method are that of two.
Conjuring and augmenting.
Augmenters enhance their bodies with Mana, allowing them incredible strength, agility and defense. However, their weakness lies in their limited range.
Conjures emit Mana to the outside world, allowing them to bend their surroundings to their will. However -
For a moment, Virion paused.
And then skimmed through the text as if looking for something. His expression was indifferent but his eyes was filled with anticipation.
Waiting.
And he stopped.
But it was too late to panic now. He had already adjusted nicely to his new family and lifestyle.
But at least he now has an advantage.
For he knows this world's future amd what it holds.
"This is 'The Beginning' - no."
"I suppose it's now mine." he smiled to himself even if what he said now was kinda embarrassing.
