Chapter 5 - Nightmare! The Store's Rules
“You’re not still a virgin, are you?”
Hearing these words while looking at Xiaoying’s soft and delicate appearance, He Gu could only feel his breathing becoming more rapid.
“Of course not…”
He Gu reflexively denied it, but he sounded very unconvincing.
Being single for twenty years, he had truly never seen such a scene before!
Xiaoying leaned forward, lying on the table. The neckline of her sleepwear immediately revealed a large expanse of snowy white skin.
He Gu awkwardly turned his eyes away to look at the floor, but Xiaoying took advantage and brought her face close to He Gu’s: “Didn’t expect you to actually still be a virgin?”
Feeling Xiaoying’s warm breath on his own face, He Gu’s whole body grew hot.
With a swoosh, he got up from the bed. He Gu was even a little inarticulate as he spoke: “I, I, I…I’m a bit tired, going to take a nap.”
After speaking, He Gu fled like an escape to his own bed.
If this continued, He Gu would really lose control!
Even knowing this was the spooky world…it was still too difficult to endure!
If He Gu had not firmly kept in mind the rule to maintain a proper relationship with Xiaoying, He Gu might not have been able to hold back!
Fortunately, Xiaoying did not continue to embarrass He Gu. She scoffed “Boring”, then cleaned up the leftover hot pot and lazily lay in bed playing with her phone, without saying anything more.
After He Gu climbed into bed and lay down, his heart was still pounding for a good while, and he didn’t know if it was from excitement or anxiety.
He secretly glanced back at Xiaoying below the bed, swaying her snow-white legs as she played with her phone.
He Gu simply rolled over with his back facing her, and hazily fell asleep just like that.
He didn’t know how much time had passed when He Gu suddenly felt something pressing down on him.
Then He Gu felt a softness on his chest, followed by a wet softness on his lips, as a soft tongue slid right in.
He Gu struggled to open his eyes to see Xiaoying lying on top of him, passionately kissing him.
In that instant, He Gu’s mind went blank.
He couldn’t think of any rules, any spookiness, nothing at all in that moment. He even forgot that he was in the spooky world.
He Gu passionately reciprocated, and then saw Xiaoying take off his shirt, then expose his chest, and dig out a bloody heart.
Only then did He Gu realize Xiaoying’s face was deathly pale, with a bizarre smile. She held up the bloody heart and took a bite…
…
“Caw caw—Escape! Escape!”
“Caw caw—Escape! Escape!”
…
The parrot’s signature duck-like cry sounded, and He Gu instantly woke up, abruptly sitting up in bed, panting heavily.
“Luckily it was just a dream…”
He Gu wiped his chest in fear, only to find his clothes were already soaked in sweat.
The moment He Gu woke up, the parrot also quieted down.
“You noisy parrot, always shouting suddenly.”
Xiaoying’s complaining voice came from the lower bunk.
He Gu casually placated: “It’s probably not used to suddenly having a beauty in the dorm.”
Xiaoying curled her lips and continued playing on her phone without saying anything more.
He Gu noticed the lights were on in the dorm room. Looking out the window, he realized it was already dark outside!
This made He Gu’s heart skip a beat. He hurriedly took out his phone to check the time—it was 8:27 PM now.
Good thing it wasn’t midnight yet.
But this also made He Gu more vigilant. From now on when he woke up he would definitely check the time first.
One of the rules said he couldn’t talk to Xiaoying between midnight and 6 AM.
If he groggily woke up and casually spoke to Xiaoying, getting himself sent away, that would be too unjust.
Just then, Xiaoying suddenly spoke again: “Any food? I’m hungry.”
Hearing Xiaoying say this, He Gu realized he had only symbolically eaten a few bites at noon. His stomach was empty now.
“The cafeteria is closed this time of day. I’ll go to the store and see if I can buy some food.”
As He Gu spoke, he jumped down from the bed.
This time Xiaoying didn’t stop He Gu from going out, just said while looking down playing with her phone: “Then be quick.”
He Gu nodded and took the trash can with Xiaoying’s red handkerchief out the door to completely eliminate this threat.
Walking out of the dorm room door, He Gu let out a long sigh.
Their dorm room was on the third floor. He Gu quickly went downstairs. Reaching the first floor, he saw the dorm manager sitting at the entrance.
The dorm manager was a fat old man wearing a quintessentially old-fashioned red vest, also holding a palm leaf fan.
Seeing He Gu come down, the manager amiably said: “Going out this late?”
He Gu casually responded: “Going to the store to buy some things.”
But the manager waved his hand: “Then I advise you not to waste your effort. The whole school only has you few people left. The store closed long ago, won’t open until next semester probably.”
Hearing this, He Gu hesitated, then smiled: “I’ll still go take a look.”
Although the rules said an undressed dorm manager was trustworthy, they didn’t say you had to absolutely listen to him.
There was a very important principle in the spooky world—don’t readily believe anyone!
What if that rule was wrong?
Or the old man’s memory was faulty in his old age?
He Gu still wanted to go see the store for himself. It wasn’t far anyway.
Most importantly, if he didn’t buy some things to bring back, he and Xiaoying would go hungry tonight.
Letting Xiaoying go hungry was dangerous.
This was the old campus of the school, only for graduating classes, so the campus wasn’t big either.
He recalled at this time no more than ten students remained at the school, so the whole campus was empty and desolate now.
Other than a few dim streetlights, only the cafeteria not far away still had a light on, with what sounded like crying coming from that direction.
In the spooky world, He Gu didn’t plan on going to check it out, and briskly walked toward the campus store.
A few minutes later, He Gu arrived at the store entrance.
This school only had three stores, lined up inside the school gate.
Right now two stores were already closed, only the leftmost store still had its lights on.
“Good thing, one is still open!”
He Gu was a little delighted and briskly walked toward that store.
But approaching, He Gu noticed a sheet of A4 paper posted at the door:
[Rule Three]
1. The store does not sell “Delicious Jerky”. If you see it appear on the shelves, please immediately give it to the staff member wearing an orange uniform.
2. If there are no staff members wearing white, please immediately leave the store.
3. If purchasing cooked food, please finish eating it in the store, do not bring it back to the dorms.
4. Please do not accept the “Tasty Minced Beef” recommended by staff.
…
After He Gu read these four rules, another line of red text that only he could see slowly appeared at the bottom:
Hidden rule: Before entering the store, make sure you don’t have any parrot feathers on you.
