Chapter 21 - The Parrot's Cry for Help
At this moment, Xiao Ying’s cheeks were flushed red, and her eyes were filled with hidden passion.
Adding to this was the sight of her slowly pulling up white stockings along her slender, beautiful legs… The scene could only be described as alluring!
He Gu awkwardly turned his face away, not daring to look directly: “It’s all…very good looking, wear whatever you like.”
As long as you don’t wear nothing at all, that’s fine.
Hearing this, Xiao Ying let out a charming smile, and took off the white stockings she had just put on right in front of He Gu.
Then…she actually started changing into her nightgown right in front of He Gu!
He Gu quickly turned to face the wall, at a loss for words for a moment.
After some rustling sounds from Xiao Ying, she seemed to have finished changing and went into the bathroom.
Soon, He Gu heard the “rush rush” sound of running water coming from the bathroom, and only then did he breathe a slight sigh of relief.
It seemed that after the excitement from last night, He Gu was relatively less flustered this time.
At the moment, He Gu was more puzzled than anything else.
Xiao Ying had acted like a different person all day, quietly nestling in bed playing on her phone without any inappropriate behavior.
So why did she start acting this way again as soon as night fell?
He Gu felt a little tired, it looked like there would be no peace again tonight.
Seeing that it was almost midnight, He Gu didn’t dare delay any longer. He picked up the birdcage, preparing to move the parrot outside the dorm room.
However, as soon as He Gu picked up the cage and opened the dorm room door, the parrot inside suddenly fluttered violently, crashing against the bars of the cage as if trying to escape.
“Ahhh – Help! Help!”
“Ahhh – Help! Help!”
…
The parrot’s unique duck-like screeching now sounded somewhat hysterical, as if frightened and desperately trying to escape for its life.
From its increasingly human-like eyes, He Gu even saw an expression of terror.
It seemed to be…afraid?
This sudden change startled He Gu, making him hesitate at the door.
Seeing He Gu hesitate, the parrot in the cage suddenly stopped struggling. It stood in the cage staring at He Gu with its big eyes.
That gaze was as if begging He Gu not to put it outside.
He Gu wavered.
In this instance world, this parrot was definitely special.
But it was almost midnight. If He Gu didn’t put it outside, he would be breaking the rules.
Of course, that rule could also be wrong.
But currently He Gu had no clues to prove whether the rule was correct or not.
If he recklessly kept the parrot in the room overnight, it would be tantamount to a life-threatening gamble for He Gu.
After struggling for a while, He Gu still decided to put the parrot outside.
Now He Gu could not verify the authenticity of the rule, but at least the parrot had spent a night outside last night without incident.
Also, all kinds of situations could occur in a world of strange tales to induce challengers to break rules.
No one could guarantee the parrot’s current behavior wasn’t some kind of inducement.
Seeing He Gu’s actions, the parrot seemed to resign itself, a look of despair appearing in its eyes as it quietly lowered its head without moving.
Hanging the parrot cage outside the door, He Gu took a deep breath and closed the door.
After locking the door, He Gu used the last bit of time to simply tidy up the dorm room, then quickly climbed into bed and lay down.
A few minutes later, the lights went out and the dorm room sunk into darkness.
Lights off, it was midnight!
He Gu lay quietly in bed, feeling a little annoyed and confused.
He didn’t know why, but after seeing the parrot’s behavior earlier, He Gu felt he shouldn’t have put it outside.
Perhaps amplified by the emotions in the dorm room, the more He Gu thought about it, the more irritable he felt, and also vaguely uneasy.
The sound of running water in the bathroom was still continuing, just like last night it didn’t stop because of the power outage.
He Gu lay in bed for about ten minutes, unable to stop thinking about the parrot.
That pleading look in the parrot’s eyes kept flashing through his mind, even making He Gu feel tortured.
Just as He Gu was tossing and turning in vexation, footsteps suddenly sounded from outside the door.
Thump…thump…thump…
The muffled footsteps echoed in the silent hallway, walking very slowly, but getting closer and closer.
These footsteps were very slow, almost stiff.
In the empty, quiet hallway, the footsteps were very clear.
This sound gave He Gu an inexplicable sense of oppression, as if each step was stomping on his chest.
After about another half a minute, the footsteps had reached the door of dorm room 302.
Listening to these footsteps, He Gu couldn’t help but recall the bizarre, stiff movements of Wang Tao during his sleepwalking.
Could it be Wang Tao sleepwalking again?
Just as He Gu was thinking this, the parrot’s duck-like voice suddenly sounded from outside: “Welcome!”
“Welcome!”
…
Hearing this voice, He Gu was almost certain.
This morning when the parrot saw Wang Tao sleepwalking, it had also shouted “Welcome!”
It was very likely the sleepwalking Wang Tao outside!
But after the parrot’s voice rang out, the footsteps suddenly stopped.
From the sounds, it seemed to be standing still outside the door?
He Gu also recalled the scene he saw when he opened the door that morning – the stiffly standing, sleepwalking Wang Tao with his head tilted up “looking” at the birdcage.
Could it be that he did the same thing every night during his sleepwalking?
However, just as He Gu was thinking he would likely see that scene again when he opened the door tomorrow morning, a sudden change occurred.
Fluttering sounds of the parrot flapping its wings came from outside the door, the commotion even greater than when the parrot was crashing against its cage earlier!
He Gu’s heart tightened, what was happening!?
“Ahhh – Help! Help!”
“Hel…p!”
…
After flapping several times, the parrot’s cries rang out again.
Different from before, the parrot’s voice was no longer loud and noisy, but rather gave a feeling of…weakness.
This feeling was like the voice of someone being choked while struggling!
The parrot was in danger!
He Gu’s heart wrenched when he heard this. He immediately sat up in bed.
But then He Gu quickly calmed down again.
Dormitory Rule #3: No going into the hallway between midnight and 6am.
If He Gu rushed out now, he would immediately break the rules!
Moreover, he didn’t know what the situation was outside. He Gu had no idea what he would be facing when he opened the door.
Furthermore, even if He Gu rushed out to save the parrot, would he dare take the risk of breaking rules to bring it back into the room afterwards?
And in the moment that He Gu hesitated, the parrot’s voice outside suddenly went silent.
The hallway instantly returned to stillness, as if all the prior sounds had been illusions.
However, a few seconds later, He Gu heard another faint sound coming from outside the door.
“Crunch…crunch…”
It was the sound of someone chewing on something…
