Chapter 5: The Boas
“You can go, I am releasing you.” Kurtz assured, raising both of his hands up and the girl’s eyes thinned.
“You probably think I am dumb right? You wouldn’t follow me all the way here just to let me go after, are you waiting for me to turn my back so you can release your bullet?” The girl queried looking at Kurtz suspiciously.
“Well, as absurd and stupid as it might sound, I am really letting you go, or… do you want to spend more time with me.” Kurtz asked as a mischievous smile emerged on his face.
The girl’s face turned confused for a moment but her eyes quickly regained their usual coldness, slowly she retreated from him and when she reached beside her car she paused. “It doesn’t matter why you let me go but… thanks and a point of correction, I am not an innocent lady, I have killed many bastards like you who came after me.” she said, before getting into the truck.
“Bastards like me. Why do I feel you are threading on a thin line there, girl?” Kurtz muttered, while watching the car truck moved back and after giving him a final stare, the girl sent the car in a quick turn and drove off.
“What was that Kurtz?” Kurtz suddenly heard the Boss voice in his ear after some moments of silence.
Slowly, he looked up to the sky. Others might not notice it but there, a tiny beetle sized drone was floating and with it, the Boss was watching every single scene in the area.
Kurtz bent picking up a gun which the girl had dropped on the ground before pointing towards the tiny device and shooting, a tiny spark could be observed signifying the end of the drone’s existence.
“Stop communication with Boss, system.” He ordered the system before walking towards his car, Kurtz paused on reaching beside his car as he ran his hand roughly through his dark hair with scrunched face, “what the hell is wrong with me?” He muttered, before entering the car and driving off.
Back in the Seer Mercenaries base…
In a white room, two people could be seen lying on beds while another three were sitting, this were all Kurtz colleagues still receiving treatments. A woman in nurse uniform slowly walked into the room and everyone turned towards her with questioning faces.
“Boss is on the move.” Linda, the Nurse spoke grabbing a chair before sitting as well.
The others exchanged gazes, before looking back at the nurse with solemn expressions.
“You know boss won’t just leave for no reason right, what is the deal?” Bryan asked.
Linda also had a slight frown on her face as she replied, “Apparently, Kurtz failed to deliver the target.”
Then the room went deathly silent, every single person had a dumbstruck expression on their face except for a young man, who instead looked at Bryan in mock before speaking.
“Kurtz failed! Come on man, I thought he was supposed to be the infallible one, the one with the impeccable record of never failing a single mission!” The young man said looking around, “…but the first mission I would see him take turned out to be a failure, just what are the odds?” The young man said, before looking back at Bryan, “Now tell me, Sir Bryan, did you really meant it when you said I shouldn’t mess with him?” He asked with gloating face.
“Honestly, I have never seen him failed a mission, as well but that just goes to prove no one is infallible, you should take the lesson Bryan.” Finn, the other man spoke.
“Thanks for the lesson guys, I understand better now.” Bryan said, before closing his eyes and adding with a sigh, “we are doomed.” He said and everyone around looked at him, but Bryan still had his eyes closed.
“What the hell is that supposed to mean, Bryan?” Finn asked.
Bryan however ignored the question and a woman sitting by the side shook her head before speaking, “It’s actually simple Finn, whoever had managed to deal with Kurtz would have no problem dealing with us all… we messed up with the wrong one this time and trust me, such people rarely forgive, she will be back for us soon enough.” The woman explained.
“I guess I would finally get to see my friend again, expect me soon Ryan.” Bryan spoke again, chuckling while the others threw him unsure faces.
“Weaklings!” The young man spat glaring at the group all round, “I can’t believe my brother had surrounded himself with a bunch of losers.” he said, standing from his seat, “Now I see why my brother had died notwithstanding how skilled he was, loosing hope so quickly just because a random fool failed in his mission. Either way, I don’t really need you guys, whoever killed Ryan, whoever killed my brother should be ready to pay back with their life, even if it is a god.” The young man declared, before leaving the place and the group exchange another gaze.
Back at Kurtz house…
“God! What the hell is wrong with me, what I am doing?” Kurtz groaned with his eyes closed. He was sitting on a large sofa with his head swung back, in his hand, a transparent cup holding some crimson liquid could be seen. He swirled the cup before emptying its whole content in a single gulp.
“Someone is at the door.” The system cut in through his thoughts and Kurtz stiffened, he had a very limited circle of friends so he already had an idea of whom the visitor might be. Still he asked, “Who is it.”
“Your Boss.” The system replied and the glass cup in Kurtz hand crumbled.
He groaned grabbing his bowed head for a moment before springing up and reaching the door in an instant, soon he had exited into a dim and spacious area which had various sport cars parked all around.
The area was dim, because it was actually built just under the mountain peak.
“Let him in.” He spoke after a while and some distance from Kurtz, a platform suddenly detached from above descending into the ground. On it, a car could be seen which it brought into the spacious garage, while another hatch slid into the opening above drowning the garage back in the darkness it had been.
Immediately after landing, the car door opened and a masked man exited the car with a smoking pipe in his mouth, the car door closed and the man leaned on it before releasing a cloud of smoke from his mouth.
