Supreme Spirit System

Chapter 2: Chapter 2: Heart Broken

Seeing Prashant in this predicament both Mr. Smith and Mrs. Kent were quite amused since it was they themselves who were responsible for bringing this upon Prashant since the work flow has reduced and they have to fire some employees and though Prashant was a diligent hard worker with reputation however a few days back he had some argument with his boss Mrs. Kent due to which she had great dislike for him so she suggested his name to be put in the list of employees who were to be released from this project.

Prashant was a introvert and did not have a good networking among his peers so could not get any backing in the office so naturally when Mrs. Kent suggested Prashant's name the CEO did not had any objection since he only wanted cost cutting and would like to meet his target of firing a few employees to balance out the workforce in his company.

Prashant said "Sir! I am not saying that the system is incorrect but I know my work and clearly this is not done by me."

Mr. Smith the CEO shouted on Prashant and said "WHAT DO YOU MEAN? YOU DO NOT MAKE ANY SENSE? Are you saying the system records are incorrect? You are contradicting your own words."

Though they were in a closed door conference room which belonged to the CEO however their voices could be heard outside when the CEO shouted. It was a small startup of fifty to sixty employees and the number fluctuated every year based on the availability of work.

Being a frontline worker and in front of the big boss Prashant was totally intimidated as he kept stuttering "Sir! Let me explain. If you give me time i can prove that this is not my work and I am innocent."

Mr. Smith coldly said "You have been working with us for more than one year and you had enough time there is no point in giving you more also this is totally captured by the system and there is no human interference so what you are saying is all nonsense."

Prashant was totally confused since he could not understand how this was happening little did he know that it was all planned only to throw him out of the company and he was also embarrassed by the situation since he very well knew that all his colleagues must have heard the shout and would be gloating over him since he almost never made any close friends among his colleague because he was an introvert person.

Though Prashant had a side hustle at night but this company was his primary source of income and without this he and his family may not starve however affording the education of his younger siblings would become impossible which was an outcome he never wanted to see.

Prashant started to plead to Mr. Smith and said "Sir! Please give me one more chance. I will make sure that this is not repeated. I have a family to run."

Prashant thought apologizing and admitting the mistake would save him even if he was not guilty but this is where he was wrong because as soon as he admitted this was his doing he was not given a chance and was fired. The decision was relayed by Mr. Smith himself and he could not do anything about it.

He came out of the CEO's conference room without showing any emotion and ignoring the surrounding gazes collected his belongings and left the office since there was nothing left for him in this office.

Prashant felt very bad since he had been working in this startup for more than a year and had future plans of working for quite some time also had been working there with full devotion however getting out of there in such a humiliating way and getting blamed from something which he did not do he felt wronged.

He left the office and made the decision to return home to see what he could do next because, in the absence of a permanent job, he might be able to provide for his family's basic needs, including food, housing, and clothing, with a part-time job at night. Both of his parents also worked, but their incomes were insufficient to pay for his younger siblings education. This was a problem he needed to consider now.

On the other side after reaching school Mayank attended his classes as usual with Jane sitting next to him and then on one of those free periods they went to cafeteria for some refreshments and found an empty spot to have their meal.

There were a lot of things going on in Mayank's mind and he was aware about the difference in social classes between him and Jane. Also he had been pestered by his brother again and again about his relationship with Jane. Though he trusted Jane as he loved her however he also had a lot of faith in his big brother who meant the world to him so he decided to make things clear with Jane.

But he was afraid to ask her directly about this so he decided to ask her for engagement and marriage instead since they were already two years in this relationship and he had high hopes of getting a job like his brother or better after passing out so he was also confident of supporting her and in this way he will be more clear about his relationship with Jane.

As they were enjoying their noodles Mayank looked at Jane with sincere eyes and said "Jane, I wanted to discuss something important with you."

Jane said "Speak why are you hesitating?"

Mayank got up and got down on his knees and took out a ring from his back pocket. Jane saw what Mayank was doing and her eyes went wide as she knew what he was about to do and she never expected this.

Mayank said "Jane will you marry me?"

Jane was totally perplexed by the action of Mayank as she never expected this from Mayank. She was just keeping him around and wanted to prolong their relationship till the end of this semester and after they pass out from college she will breakup with him saying she will go abroad and she do not want to be in a long distance relationship since Mayank could not afford to accompany her with the difference in their social classes and since she had a valid excuse for breaking up she will not have any guilt.

But in all this planning what she did not expect for Mayank to propose her for marriage which she did not expect him to do after all they were only in school and teenagers.

Jane stood up from her seat and said "Mayank what are you doing? Why are you making a scene in public?"

Mayank stood his ground and sincerely asked again "Jane I know this is a bit early for you but I have thought this over since I love you so much I want to spend my whole life with you. Will you marry me Jane?"

Jane got into a panic mode since she never wanted to be with Mayank and there was no question of marriage at this tender age. After all this was the time to enjoy life and have fun so she had to reject him so she said "No! A big no and for your information I have never thought of continuing our relationship. How dare you to dream of getting married to me?"

Mayank's face was drained of color as he heard the harsh words from Jane and said "Jane please reconsider this I had proposed this only to make our future secured so nobody can separate us and I will surely get a good job in future."

Jane said "Just forget it. We belong from two different social classes and you are too inferior to me so you cannot afford me also what junk is this ring you brought for me do you think I will be impressed by this. Just take it away and don't ever come back to me again. I am breaking up with you." She threw the ring at Mayank's face.

They were in the school cafeteria and all the other students were looking at them and enjoying the show. Many of the boys who were envious of Mayank for the past two years as to how he had managed to grab the attention of the campus belle of the school were now gloating and looked at Mayank with disdain and said "How dare he dream of marrying the campus belle who hails from such a rich background? He is definitely out of his mind."

Mayank was heartbroken he quickly caught her hand and begged Jane "Jane I have loved you so much for the past two years and I can do anything for you. Please believe in me in future we will definitely have a bright future ahead of us. If you give me this chance I can definitely fulfill your desires."
