Chapter 14: Ch-6 Recovering the Loss
Xu Ruyan was sitting behind her desk. After finishing her work, she was ready to take a break.
When she heard a knock at the door, she thought it was the manager downstairs with something to discuss, but it turned out to be Yang Tao.
In fact, when Xu Ruyan saw Yang Tao, it was like seeing a cousin from her family. This cousin had a good relationship with her and had always been there for her when she was a child. That was why she was so kind to Yang Tao. Otherwise, how could Xu Ruyan be open to a stranger? Even some managers in the company felt that Xu Ruyan was too aloof.
When she saw Yang Tao come in, Xu Ruyan frowned. When she got off the elevator in the morning, she noticed that Yang Tao looked very pale and weak. He seemed fine before he got on the elevator, but he changed after he got off.
She had asked him about it then, but Yang Tao didn't want to say anything, so she didn't press him further. After all, Yang Tao seemed like a cousin, not a real one.
But now that she saw Yang Tao again, he looked even weaker and his lips were pale.
"Hurry up and sit down." Xu Ruyan stood up and motioned for Yang Tao to sit on the sofa.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell? If so, I'll approve your leave and you can go to the hospital," Xu Ruyan said, thinking that Yang Tao was asking for sick leave.
"Mr. Xu, I'm not sick, and I wouldn't ask you for leave even if I needed it," Yang Tao sighed and looked into Xu Ruyan's eyes, his face full of sincerity and worry.
"Then what is it?" Xu Ruyan frowned. Why did he say that?
"Mr. Xu, have you ever had your fortune told?" Yang Tao asked, answering her question with one of his own.
Xu Ruyan was stunned. Fortune telling? She was familiar with it. She came from a wealthy family, and the elders in her family were very inclined to believe in Feng Shui. The higher their status, the more they would rather believe in it than not.
"No," Xu Ruyan replied, not sure what Yang Tao was getting at. She said nothing more and waited for him to continue.
"Then Mr. Xu you must have learned something about it," Yang Tao continued, trying to guide her.
"I have learned a little about it," Xu Ruyan replied, now a little impatient. She was familiar with this kind of conversation - it was designed to gradually deepen the concept being discussed and arouse curiosity.
If Yang Tao hadn't seemed like a cousin, she would probably have asked him to leave by now.
Yang Tao noticed Xu Ruyan's sudden impatience and his heart skipped a beat. He coughed hard to make himself appear weaker.
He realized that he was still too inexperienced. Whether in his previous life or this one, he had never interacted with upper class people. Although his IQ and EQ were decent, he hadn't really experienced much. It was impossible to rely solely on his inner reasoning.
Originally, he had wanted to slowly arouse Xu Ruyan's curiosity and then gradually reveal his mysterious knowledge, hoping that she would believe him. But he hadn't considered what would happen if Xu Ruyan didn't follow the expected routine.
When Xu Ruyan saw Yang Tao turning pale, her expression softened and she leaned forward slightly, showing her interest. "Yang Tao, if you have something to say, just say it. I won't blame you if you're wrong."
Yang Tao sighed silently. "It's like this, Mr. Xu. When I came out of the elevator this morning, you asked me why my face looked so bad. I didn't tell you then because I saw something you couldn't see."
Xu Ruyan remained calm, but her eyes betrayed a slight curiosity. Her body leaned forward more as she listened.
"Go on."
"Actually, I am a disciple of a hidden sect. I didn't come to work yesterday because I happened to learn something. People in our sect have a special ability that allows us to see glimpses of others' futures."
"It's commonly known as fortune telling for others." At this point, Yang Tao looked at Xu Ruyan's expression and noticed that she seemed interested now.
"So you mean to tell me that when you were in the elevator, you read my fortune, and then it backfired?" Xu Ruyan smiled slightly.
Yang Tao shook his head, realizing that Xu Ruyan might be mocking him. There was no such thing as a hidden sect in society, only charlatans.
"No, fortune-telling doesn't backfire, but telling someone's fortune without permission does take some of my energy. That's why I looked so bad when you saw me."
"Mr. Xu, you have a good life. Whether it's wealth or fortune, you're at the top. I'd guess that your wealth is no less than 100 million."
At that moment, Yang Tao mentioned something that shocked Xu Ruyan.
Xu Ruyan was surprised and a little doubtful. She had come to Changsha to work in order to avoid her ex-husband's entanglements. No one knew her real identity. Her car was an ordinary Audi A4, and her clothes cost only a few thousand yuan each.
This kind of attire was suitable for the vice president of a small company, but Yang Tao claimed that her assets were worth over 100 million. He said it so firmly as if it wasn't even a question. She trusted her own judgment, and now she was sure that Yang Tao must have received some information.
"Have you been investigating me?" she asked coldly.
Yang Tao shook his head. "Mr. Xu, I don't know you and I don't know your background. This is what I calculated, and I also calculated that you will lose more than 20 million at 2:21 p.m. today."
"Impossible!" Xu Ruyan immediately replied.
"Mr. Xu, don't rush to dismiss it. You can think about it - has anything seemed wrong recently? After all, 20 million is not a small amount of money."
"And I can also tell you that it's not all cash. Some of it is cash, and some of it is fixed assets. It's almost 1 p.m. now, with only about an hour and a half left before the event. You have a chance to confirm this, don't you?"
"And you think that with your understanding of me, what ability do I have to find out your background? Before this, I was just an ordinary person."
The reason why Yang Tao was sure that Xu Ruyan had over 100 million in assets was because he could see the potential loss. Someone who could invest over 20 million, along with some fixed assets, surely had more than 100 million in total.
The future Yang Tao saw gave him details about Xu Ruyan's loss of wealth-the time, amount, and whether it was cash or fixed assets-but he couldn't see how the loss occurred. Otherwise, he would have told Xu Ruyan directly.
It was similar to the time he saw the loss of a girl from Sichuan - he saw the time and amount of her wealth loss, but he didn't know that it was caused by a robbery.
It was only by observing the changes in wealth that he could make such a guess.
However, Xu Ruyan's wealth had not changed in the past three months. It seemed like the loss of over 20 million was inevitable.
