At dusk, in the pizza shop.
Having just finished watching the last match of the day, Lucas brought the beastkin girls to the pizza shop for dinner. Of course, it was mainly because the girls wanted to come to the pizza shop, perhaps seeking some lively atmosphere.
"That number five fighter was way too weak! She got knocked out with just one punch!" Annie waved her slender arm and shouted. "If it were me, I could knock her out with one hit!"
"Oh? I didn't know our Annie was so strong! You can knock someone out with a single punch?" Mina teased, munching on her pizza. "I wonder who it was that got pushed over by a girl younger than her?"
"You…" Annie was so angry that her fox ears perked up. She shouted, "You little brat, shut up!"
"Really? Was there such a thing?"
Nicole raised an eyebrow and asked playfully, "That person couldn't possibly be Annie, right?"
"No, no way! It definitely wasn't me!" Annie quickly waved her hands, her fox tail swishing vigorously.
"Of course, it was… mmm mmm…"
Mina was about to tease a few more words when Annie grabbed a slice of pizza and stuffed it in her mouth, glaring with her brown eyes and threatening, "If you dare say another word, I'll spill the beans about you and the master…"
"Uh…" Mina's cheeks flushed, and she awkwardly nodded. For the past month, she had been sleeping next to Lucas, which often led to teasing from Annie and the others, leaving her too embarrassed to say anything.
"I think Annie is right! Those fighters are really weak; I could knock them out by myself!"
Ayesha said with her mouth full of pizza, her words muffled. "It's too bad the young master won't let me go on stage. Otherwise, first place would be mine!"
After saying that, she looked at Lucas with a pitiful expression. She was very tempted by the boxing matches.
"Uh…" Lucas rolled his eyes. He knew how strong the big cow was, which was exactly why he didn't let her participate. How could the others have any chance otherwise?
In fact, when hosting boxing matches, the officials rarely send people to participate to avoid any accusations of rigging the competition. Besides, who could predict what would happen in the future?
If Lucas didn't restrict the people from the lord's mansion from signing up for the competition, the final result might end up being that all the top three spots would be taken by them. How would ordinary citizens view that? They would just say that with such great rewards set up, it was clearly all prepared for their own people.
"You still have to go on patrol; when do you have time for boxing matches?" Lucas reminded her lightly.
"Right!" Ayesha was momentarily stunned. She could only channel her frustration into her appetite, quickly finishing off a whole pizza and then calling out, "Elisa, bring me another pizza!"
"Okay!" Elisa responded cheerfully.
She was used to this sort of thing. Friends with Ayesha, Annie, and Mina, they frequently came to the shop for pizza every few days.
Of course, Ayesha and the others ordered pizzas loaded with extra toppings, with meat piled high on each pie. This was one of the reasons they loved coming to the pizzeria so much.
"Here comes the pizza!" Elisa said, bringing out a pizza with a smile.
"Hey, Ayesha, don't eat so fast!" Annie leaned over the table, reaching for a slice, but her height was a disadvantage.
"Here's a piece for you!" Ayesha pushed a slice over to her and, tossing her long purple hair, stuffed another piece into her mouth.
"There's still more inside!" Elisa said softly. Every time she witnessed such scenes, she couldn't help but reflect on how beastkins had come to coexist peacefully with humans.
She stole a glance at Lucas, the lord of Sedona City. She had a strong curiosity about him and wanted to understand how his mind worked. How was he so different from other nobles that he could create such an extraordinary city?
Elisa thought about when she would no longer have to hide her true self and could walk openly down the street or work in the pizzeria without fear.
Suddenly, a pair of eyes met hers, causing her to pause for a moment before blushing and looking away.
'Mina really is quite sensitive.' Elisa reflected to herself.
Elisa felt that the person she needed to be most cautious about among the beastkins was Mina. She worried that if her identity were discovered, she would no longer be able to stay freely in Sedona City.
In recent days, Elisa had been particularly careful. She noticed that two bounty hunters had appeared in the city, but their actions confused her. The old man named Peter had actually gone to a primary school to guard the gate and even bought pizzas to take to the orphanage.
The other bounty hunter, a big guy named Hal, was even stranger. He had recently started buying lollipops, going in and out of the shop ten times a day, leaving people puzzled about his intentions.
Elisa wondered if these two had some major mission lurking in Sedona City or if they were secretly investigating her whereabouts.
"Crack!"
The door swung open, and Peter walked in with a kind smile, calling out, "Miss Elisa, I'd like five pizzas to go, please!"
"Mr. Peter, off to the orphanage again?" Elisa replied calmly.
"Yes! I'm going to check on the kids." Peter said warmly, having found a new purpose in life.
"Please wait a moment; it'll be ready soon." Elisa nodded and stepped into the kitchen to prepare the pizzas.
Elisa had grown accustomed to Peter's visits, as he often came by after work to buy pizzas for the orphanage.
Mina blinked her eyes, sensing that Elisa was not an ordinary person, yet she couldn't quite pinpoint why. Perhaps Elisa was simply very good at concealing her true self.
"What's wrong?" Lucas asked, taking a bite of his pizza. "Is something off?"
"I just feel like we're missing something!" Mina frowned, a hint of mature charm adding depth to her expression.
"There's probably some plan at play. As long as it's not targeting us, we shouldn't meddle in other people's affairs." Lucas replied nonchalantly.
There were many people like Elisa in Sedona City. Take Bryan, for instance, who also owned a shop in the market. Then there was the elderly doorman named Peter at the primary school, who had managed to fend off numerous applicants to become the official gatekeeper.
As long as Lucas was around, these various characters wouldn't dare to stir up trouble. The value of Sedona City was clear to anyone who had a discerning eye.
"Got it!" Mina nodded, understanding Lucas's point. As long as the other party didn't cause trouble, there was no need to get involved in too many matters.
"Young master, there's action tonight."
Mina leaned closer to Lucas and whispered in his ear, "We've identified twelve slave traders. They plan to make a move tonight."
"Oh?" Lucas raised an eyebrow, replying coolly, "Then give the intel to the Security Department and have their people take action. The coal mine has been complaining about a manpower shortage, so let's send them there."
"Understood!" Mina nodded.
She couldn't understand why some people chose to make money through the trafficking of people.
