Chapter 11: Doubts and Concerns
"You are seeking the wrong person, humans. But why do you find it strange?! He's the chosen one after all," Mammot spoke, his eyes falling on Edmund and his father standing by his right side.
"We are different, Mammot. He's a human, not a beast; Thus, he can't awaken alone, much less, be connected to the system this early." The old man responded while shaking his head then Edmund nodded in agreement.
"Exactly, Theodore. Either find another human who can explain it, or just keep quiet and leave it a secret for your own good."
"Yes, we've already done that. No one knows about this except the three of us, my son, and my wife."
"Good. Keep it that way. Anything else, Edmund?" Having been familiar with them for long, he was used to calling their names directly like they did.
"I'm not sure. What do you think we should do next?" Theodore spoke, concerned for his grandson's future.
"Hmm, ahead and measure his stats, then report back to me." Having gone through the trouble thanks to Taurus' efforts, Mammot didn't mind pushing it a little further.
"What?! He's just a child! Sure, leveling up might give him some attribute points, but he wouldn't even be able to assign them yet."
"That's true, and as his father, it's your decision. But honestly, I'd bet he's already stronger than you." Knowing how fast his partner could raise his stats, Mammot spoke, slightly pushing Edmund further.
"Are you serious? A child stronger than an adult?! Don't be ridiculous, hahaha!" Having heard Mammot's words, Theodore burst out laughing before apologizing after coughing heavily.
Edmund on the other hand, stood frozen in his place unable to imagine the situation if it was to occur. "What's the matter? You don't have to take the lead or do anything serious.
After thinking about it for a while, Edmund concluded that the only way to do so would be to ask his son directly.
Sparing and sensors can be flawed and risky.
On the other hand, there were skills but none in the family had any that could them in such a situation.
Resorting to others was naturally avoided since the matter was meant to be kept a secret.
"Thank you, we will just ask him once he has learned enough." Having thought about it carefully, Edmund responded right away.
"That's fine, observe him and take care of him well." Once done with his final words, Mammot returned to his rest.
Edmund bid his farewells while Theodore made his way back to his residence nearby.
Edmund returned to his wife and told her everything they chatted about.
"I'm not sure, but I have a theory. He's not a beast, but since he's the chosen one, it might be possible to determine his properties and stats early."Alexandra spoke, thinking nothing else could explain it at this point.
"Maybe..." Edmund responded, despite how ridiculous it sounded to him.
"Never mind that for now. Our clever girl is coming home this week. Do you plan on telling her?" Edmund shook his head in refusal before stating his reasons.
"No, she's still young and such secrets can spread too easily." Considering Amelia was still going through her studies in the royal academy, Edmund refused right away.
Tyran wasn't a small empire and naturally, it had a couple of Kingdoms directly under it.
As a result, the number of noble children each ear was incredibly high and the academy was filled to the prim.
If the news went there, it could end up becoming something known across the entire empire.
"That's fine. You should reward her properly since she really nailed it this year.."
Edmund nodded upon hearing her words and thought carefully about a suitable reward he could give her.
She eventually took the initiative since he seemed to be having trouble selecting something good.
"How about a pouch? Not cheap nor expensive, yet a decent and helpful item." His eyes brightened upon hearing her words, a space pouch was a third-grade item used to store items.
It was manufactured by involving certain skills and a replacement for those who had no access to the inventory functions.
There were five grades in total, and as a third-grade item, it could store up to 10 KG of weight.
It naturally had its flaws like the weight limit and having to carry it around, but it was great nonetheless since it was very suitable for many small items.
"Well, I guess we should take turns observing the kid. Maybe we would find a lead." Having made up his mind, Edmund spoke before leaving to buy the item.
Unfortunately for them, Squeaky was there to alert Taurus.
Otherwise, he wouldn't do anything risky in their presence after all.
It was summer and Taurus knew she would return around this time. She was 15 by now and was on her way to her third academic year.
The Royal Academy was vast and remember it being split into four divisions, each meant to prepare the students for their future professions.
The first was for those whose spirits were related to the elements one way or another, it produced mages for the empire.
Amelia's spirit made her perfectly suitable to become a mage, and instead of just throwing her flames around, she was taught how to transform them into far more offensive spells.
The second was prepared for those with special physiques like his brother and mainly melee combat users like Taurus himself.
The third was special since it was the place for two highly respected professions, namely those who were capable of learning alchemy and formation.
Complicated formations, not the simple ones like his brother used to aid Amelia with her awakening.
The fourth was suitable for those interested in beasts, or rather, beast taming.
He thought about her future and considering her steady progress, academic grades, and excellence in her field, he believed she could become an instructor in the academy.
While it was a low rank, its salary was great for those who leveled up by repeatedly activating their skills and traits.
Why? Because recovering the mana through mediation could be considered average at best while consuming mana stones was the fastest and most preferred way.
Time passed and the night arrived alongside Edmund, who retrieved Amelia's gift.
With pretty much nothing to do, Theo played with Taurus until he fell asleep in his arms.
