Chapter 8: Out Of Hand

The forum for the Literature Department was especially lively since everyone knew Ryan.

Although he was just an ordinary background character, his dual reputation as a "licking dog" and a poor guy ensured that he couldn't avoid being noticed.

"Wait a minute. Isn't Ryan supposed to be Tina's exclusive licking dog???"

"Come on, it's been three years in college, and have you ever seen Tian give him a second glance?"

"Exactly! It's all one-sided. He doesn't even feel embarrassed about it. The key is, he has the desire but not the guts, and now everyone knows about it."

"But this licking dog is quite disloyal... How did he end up licking Yana instead?"

Someone quickly mocked, "If the result is going to be nothing either way, then between Tina and Yana, a department beauty and a campus beauty, obviously, the campus beauty has a higher return on investment."

"Haha, true that! If you can't get either, might as well aim for the better one."

"Ambitious and aspirational. Our classmate Ryan is making progress!"

Suddenly, Tina spoke up in the forum: "Ryan and I are just ordinary classmates. There's no need for everyone to act like this."

The previously lively chat went silent immediately after Tina's message. Her tone seemed polite, but her anger was evident.

In the girls' dormitory, Tina set her phone down, her beautiful face clouded with displeasure.

Her best friend, Lyla, fumed beside her. "These people are too much! Tina, you're way prettier than Yana. What nonsense are they even talking about?"

Lyla herself was a class beauty, petite and adorable.

However, next to Tina, she still paled in comparison. In her casual pajamas, Tina exuded a serene beauty with a scholarly air, deserving of her title as the most beautiful woman in the Literature Department.

Hearing this, Tina expression softened a little, and she said calmly, "Lyla, I'm fine. I won't take this kind of thing to heart."

Lyla persisted. "But they're just too much! They know Ryan is a useless licking dog and a penniless guy, yet they still have to use you as a joke!"

Tina curiously remarked, "But they do have a point. Where would that poor guy Ryan get the courage to approach Yana?"

As the two were talking, Tina phone suddenly rang.

"This licking dog—talk about summoning the poor ghost the moment you bring him up," Lyla said with disgust.

Tina glanced at the screen, then answered the call with a soft "Hello?"

"Tina, don't believe the nonsense in the group or online..."

Tina frowned and interrupted, "Ryan, we're not that close. Please address me as Classmate Tina."

"Alright, Classmate Tina, please let me explain."

"It's all a misunderstanding. You're the only one I like."

"We were playing Truth or Dare, and I lost. They dared me to hit on Yana."

"In my heart, even a hundred, even a thousand Yana's can't compare to you..."

This overly sweet and sycophantic confession made Tina's scalp tingle with secondhand embarrassment.

Next to her, Lyla exaggeratedly mimed vomiting, her expression full of mock disgust.

Yet, Tina was secretly amused and replied with a hint of sarcasm, "I thought as much—how could you have the courage to hit on Yana?"

"Classmate Tina, please believe me. You're the one I like the most."

"Tomorrow is your birthday, and I've prepared a gift for you."

Tina, already losing patience, replied, "Alright, that's enough. We have nothing to do with each other, so there's no need to explain anything to me."

With that, she hung up.

Lyla asked from the side, "Tina, aren't you curious about what gift he's planning to give you?"

Tina casually brushed her hair aside and said indifferently, "A poor guy like him? What kind of decent gift could he possibly get? Lyla, help me decide which outfit I should wear tomorrow."

"You're being all mysterious. How exactly are you planning to celebrate your birthday tomorrow?"

Lyla asked curiously.

A hint of pride flashed across Tina face, but she spoke with feigned nonchalance, "Tomorrow? I'll be having dinner with Kaiden."

"Kaiden from senior year???"

Lyla exclaimed in surprise, "The heir to Tiger Real Estate???"

"That's him!"

Tina sighed, pretending to be troubled, and said, "He's been pursuing me for ages, always trying to take me out for dinner."

"And somehow, he found out about my birthday. He said he's booked the Ocean Hotel for me to celebrate. It's so difficult to turn him down, such a hassle."

The Ocean Hotel is the finest five-star hotel in the area, synonymous with extravagance. The neon lights, fine wine, and lavish atmosphere make it a dream destination for the wealthy but an unattainable "holy ground" for the less fortunate.

Lyla, unable to suppress her jealousy and bitterness, sneered, "You're such a green tea b***h."

"Keeping all those bootlickers as backup, but in the end, you're the one licking Kaiden."

"Kaiden is a notorious playboy. Sooner or later, he'll get bored of you and kick you to the curb."

Meanwhile, in the boys' dormitory, Ryan put down the phone, breathed a sigh of relief, and said with a silly grin, "Tina believes me."

Jacob immediately rained on his parade, saying, "Third Brother, are you stupid? Even an idiot would believe you."

Weston chimed in, "Exactly. You trying to hit on Yana is no different than me saying Natasha Romanoff is my wife—daydreaming."

Ryan, deflated by their harsh words, mumbled, "Sincerity can move mountains."

"If Tina knew how hard I worked delivering food just to buy her the phone she wanted, she'd definitely be touched."

Both of them rolled their eyes, thinking he was hopeless.

"The struggles of the poor aren't worth moving anyone; it's the small gestures of the rich that are seen as true love. This bootlicker deserves to be obliterated for the good of humanity," they thought.

"Boss, Second Brother, you have to help me!"

The next afternoon, after class, a heart shape made of roses appeared in front of the girls' dormitory.

Passing students couldn't help but discuss, wondering which fool was putting on this childish display. Such clichéd confessions were a recurring spectacle on campus.

"Tina..."

"Call me classmate Tina!!!"

"Okay, classmate Tina, come down. I have a gift ready for you."

After leaving Ryan waiting for nearly half an hour inside the heart-shaped arrangement, Tina finally descended in full view of the crowd, dressed to the nines. Her expression, however, was far from pleased.
