Chapter 22: jealousy
Tina instantly lost her appetite, put down her knife and fork, and said, "Brother Kaiden, what's going on? I haven't heard that Yana family is that rich."
"Just pretending to be rich..."
Kaiden's face was exceptionally ugly, and he gritted his teeth, saying, "Tina, don't be fooled. After this meal, I bet they'll both be drowning in debt."
He said this to comfort himself, but Tina instantly felt that nothing tasted good anymore.
Kaiden quickly showed his courtesy, picked up a piece of lobster sashimi for her, and then said, "Don't mind them. Such a romantic atmosphere shouldn't affect our mood."
"Alright!"
Tina agreed verbally, but her expression was absent, and she had lost her appetite.
What she wanted to know now was whether Yana was just pretending to be rich, or whether Ryan could truly afford such a bill.
Kaiden immediately picked up the wine menu, pointed to an 1,100 dollar bottle of red wine, and said, "These dishes are so delicious, let's have a drink to liven things up."
When a man encourages a woman to drink, the intention is obvious.
At that moment, the music playing in the restaurant stopped, and a group of people in tuxedos entered.
One of them, holding a saxophone, walked in slowly, followed by several waiters in formal attire, carefully pushing a dining cart.
Both of their hearts were racing because this scene had attracted the attention of everyone in the restaurant.
And the direction they were heading was exactly towards Ryan and Yana.
On the dining cart were the commemorative edition Louis XIII bottle and the finest crystal wine glasses from the hotel.
"It's so noisy!!!"
Kaiden's face darkened, and he called over the waiter again. "The music just now was fine. Why suddenly switch to this?"
The waiter looked over with admiration and said, "It's like this. Our boss has a bottle of Louis XIII commemorative edition, which is the treasure of our hotel."
"The wine has always been here, but no customer has ever opened it."
"Today, this bottle of Louis XIII was opened by Mr. Ryan and is being offered to Ms. Yana across the way."
Tina immediately flipped through the wine menu, and the last page featured that exquisite bottle of Louis XIII, but without a price listed.
"What a lousy wine, talking about it so highly. How much could it really be worth?"
Kaiden sneered, saying, "Don't try to fool me."
"Don't assume I've never drunk wine. Louis XIII isn't that expensive, alright?"
Tina, full of curiosity, listened as the waiter continued with admiration: "That bottle of Louis XIII was originally not for sale, but Mr. Ryan was very sincere, so our boss sold it to him at cost price for 50,000 dollars."
"This is no ordinary bottle. It's a limited edition Remy Martin Louis XIII Jeroboam 3L, a 3-liter bottle. Our boss bought it at an auction ten years ago."
"It's said that if this bottle were auctioned now, its value would be even higher."
The waiter left after explaining, and the two of them were left stunned, as if struck by lightning.
Though Kaiden had heard of Louis XIII, he had never seen this particular model. Just looking at the bottle gave off a very luxurious feel.
Kaiden immediately gritted his teeth and said, "Tina, he must have bribed the waiters here to put on a show."
"That guy has done all sorts of jobs, from food delivery to pouring slop in the school cafeteria. He probably even washed dishes here."
"These waiters must all know him, they're all his agents putting on a show for us," Kaiden sneered.
"Louis XIII limited edition? They probably just took a domestic liquor bottle, filled it with iced tea, and are trying to scare people with it."
Tina glanced at the scene with a hint of resentment. "Don't tell me those dishes are just for show, too."
It didn't make sense... She felt more and more uncomfortable watching the manager eagerly pour wine for the couple across the room.
Kaiden quickly tried to hold it together.
"They must be lying to you. They probably can't even afford that meal."
"Tina, forget about them. Let's just enjoy this wine. The atmosphere is great, don't let it ruin our mood."
Tina weakly shook her head, not wanting to drink. The 1,100 wine and the 50,000 Louis XIII had really hit her hard. She was dying to know the truth.
The romantic dinner in front of her suddenly lost its appeal, and even Kaiden's sour remarks made her feel uneasy.
Noticing her distracted expression, Kaiden ground his teeth in frustration. Realizing he had no chance that evening, he bitterly said, "Later, when we pay the bill, let's go over and see how they keep pretending."
Tina felt a sharp pang in her heart, nodding immediately. But she had no appetite left.
On the other side, the atmosphere was wonderful.
The manager served the Côtelette de Volaille and said earnestly, "Mr. Ryan, Ms. Yana, although Côtelette de Volaille uses broth, the taste is a bit mild."
"Some people like to add cilantro and aged vinegar. You can adjust it to your taste."
Yana, nearly drunk from the indulgence, had misty eyes as she delicately sipped the amber wine.
Yana couldn't remember the taste anymore, all she knew was that this wine cost 50,000… this wine cost 50,000 dollars…
It was specially opened for her. It was the first time in the Sky Garden that someone had opened such an expensive bottle, and the satisfaction of her vanity was intoxicating her heart.
"I really don't like the taste after all," Ryan said
Ryan, not as elegant as her, took a big gulp, and his brow furrowed.
For someone used to drinking strong liquor like Ryan, the alcohol content felt a bit too low, and the oak taste smelled somewhat like paint.
This was the classic example of a cow chewing on peony; no matter how good the wine was, it didn't satisfy him. Ryan couldn't quite grasp what made it so expensive.
The manager smiled eagerly and said, "It seems that Mr. Ryan doesn't quite like this brandy after all!"
To others, Ryan words sounded a bit dismissive of the 50,000 dollars wine, and it gave off a very high-class aura. Maybe, he drinks wine worth millions.
