{After a while}I finally got to sleep as we spent an hour on resources. I lay on my bed thinking before saying "I should cultivate, there is too much of a difference in cultivation between me and the other generation." With that thought I sat cross legged and started to meditate. My entire night was spent with cultivation as it was the next morning when I finally stepped out, my body now has six packs and the previous clothes which were a fit now hold loosely to my body.
I saw Alfred waiting for me before a table of freshly baked breakfast. Alfred took one look at me before he sent some maids to fetch me some clothes. I sat down and started to eat breakfast as the maids brought me my clothes which I changed into immediately before sipping my tea. This is one thing both me and Riven have in common, we like our TEA!
"Young master" Alfred said and noticing a nod from me he continued "You will have to attend the classification ceremony for your new power"
"Classification ceremony…" I said as I remembered about the tradition of the kingdom, basically a festival when a noble awakened. Usually, a member from the royal family and a crowd of commoners see to nobel who awakened and see the rank of their power. It is also used for prestige as this is when my father gained his first fame.
What I am afraid of is that I have a unique rank power which is not from the common ranks so I may be targeted if this was revealed. Then again I also have a heavenly ascension rank power which is quite powerful in the kingdom although not as treasured as a transcendent and above ranks.
"Did you tell my father about my awakening?" I asked
"No, not yet a young master. I plan to send a letter after the rank evaluation." Alfred said
"Ok, I will take the rank evaluation at the end of this week. I plan to strengthen my power first" I said, to the shock of alfred he quickly recovered and said
"Young master, I am afraid that is not possible. This was a request from his majesty, I believe it is to see if his future son in law is really capable or not."
Fuck, I need to think of something really quick. First, I need to figure out which one of my talents will be revealed and second, I need to annule this engagement with the princess. It is not easy to annule an engagement, especially when the emperor orders it.
There are only 2 reasons one could annule an engagement after the emperor ordered it, one is that one of the party has broken their vows. Basically, when a noble gets engaged they vow to each other on certain promises. The promise is entirely up to the nobles to discuss and make but in my case it is, the princess made me vow that I would not get involved in her political career and this is it. I don't know if it is for low expectation or something else but the princess did not put any more vow in.
As for my what Riven had made the princess vow, She would not get involved with other men and that is it, I don't know if it hurt Riven pride that she did not have any other vow or Riven really doesn't care as long as he didn't get cocked they both are stupid. I know that the princess would be ecstatic if I were to annul the engagement, even if it cost her reputation, but any one from the royal family would not accept this humiliation to them.
This is basically declaring that the royal family did not "educate" their women well.
As for why the princess would be ecstatic, Marriage is not really a friend of the women in this era. Although, they could inherit titles, land and basically have the same right as men when it comes to actual law made by the emperor, a salute to the founding emperor for making it clear in the constitution of the dynasty that women and men are equal in all sense when it comes to law.
But in the end, there is no limit to what the society thinks men's achievements are more important than women in the view of society although over the years it has reduced a lot in the military. In conclusion, Marriage is a bad thing for women especially in the noble houses because if a noble were to get married the men would inherit all of what the women own. So, even though the princess was the one who did the hard work to inherit the throne after marriage I would be called the emperor. Of course, she had already thought of a way out by simply making me take a marriage vow that I would not interfere with her and let her manage the empire which is completely legal and also something that is very popular among women.
It was at this moment that I realized that I have been lost in thought and recollecting the past while Alfred is just standing around in a bowing position. "*cough**cough*I will think of something. Just delay it as much as possible and get me cultivation resources" with that I sent Alfred off, as I closed the door and began to think a lightbulb went off in my head. It could be one of my stepmoms, it is common for a noble to have multiple women and my father is not an exception to this rule. My mom and his main wife died with my birth and I have 3 stepmom, none of them are of legal wife and husband but they are concubines.
This means that they have no right over the house when the father is away and their sons and daughter too have no right over the house. Thus, only when the real heir dies do one of them have a chance of being married into the main house and take over the house.
"Alfred" I said as Alfred came back here in a flash, cultivation also strengthens the body although not as much as martial arts training. I am a 7th tier martial artist out of the 12 tier. The lower the number the better, I can be considered a genius when it comes to martial arts and Riven was planning to join the school of martial arts which is one of the paths although one who participates in martial arts are not as powerful as cultivators but it is still miles above what ordinary people.
"Tell me, did my father take in a new concubine?" I asked, it is very unlikely that the previous concubines were a part of this attack. I am confident about this because the concubines were former peasants and they do not have the power to do this. Although I felt cruel and unfair about this, the concubine was not allowed to have any children and if found to be pregnant with one. They would be taken to one of the villages away from the capital and given a certain amount of silver coins every month.
