Chapter 112: Chapter 84.3: Planning Something Big
After getting out of the car, Natasha went alone to meet with Nick Fury.
In the spacious office, Nick Fury stood by the window, gazing out at something in the distance.
Knock, knock, knock
In the stillness of the night, the knocking sounded unusually heavy.
"Come in!"
Natasha pushed open the door. "Mission failed."
Nick Fury immediately turned around, staring intently at Natasha as she slowly walked toward him.
"That kid named Yang was in the lab."
"And?"
"It seems your assessment of him was a little low."
"He noticed you?"
"Yes."
Nick Fury's interest was piqued. At the same time, he noticed the bruises on Natasha's face.
He exclaimed, "It looks like you had quite a conflict with him."
Natasha shrugged, "Not exactly what you're thinking..."
She then recounted everything that had happened.
After a moment of silence, Nick Fury asked, "Do you think he's a mutant?"
Natasha shook her head, "Aside from his strength, there's nothing suspicious about him. And there's no direct evidence proving he's a mutant."
Nick Fury frowned, "He didn't use any special abilities when he, uh... beat you?"
The word "beat" deeply wounded Natasha's pride.
Gritting her teeth, she replied slowly, "Yes, he 'beat' me with his fists. Can we move on now, Director?"
"Relax, I didn't mean it that way." Realizing his mistake, Nick Fury quickly offered some comforting words.
But Natasha wasn't having any of it, and coldly asked, "Is there anything else you need to know?"
"No, you may leave," Nick Fury dismissed her, noticing her foul mood and deciding it was best to let her go rest.
After Natasha left, Nick Fury stood alone by the window once more.
"Sincerity…"
"It's been a long time since I've heard that word."
The next day.
When Tony returned from Las Vegas, Chu Yang told him what had happened the previous night.
To Chu Yang's surprise, Tony didn't react with the expected anger. Instead, he sat down on the lab floor, dazed.
"Hey, Yang, do you think I should just hand over what I've got?"
"That way, if something ever happens to me, someone else could continue the research..."
Even Pepper probably never expected that one day the flamboyant playboy Tony would become so despondent.
Chu Yang responded, "Don't be stupid. Who else but you can work on this stuff?"
Tony smiled bitterly, "I'm not as great as you think. Just because I can do something doesn't mean others can't."
Chu Yang shook his head, "I think you misunderstood what I meant."
He pulled out a playing card from his pocket.
Upon seeing the familiar card, Tony leapt from the couch like a spring, frantically waving his hands, "No, no, no, please don't..."
The card spun through the air, tracing a graceful arc before leaving a mark on Tony's latest suit.
Tony stared at the mark, dumbfounded.
Chu Yang clicked his tongue, "What I was trying to say is, this junk might not be worth their attention."
Tony's face turned visibly red, veins bulging, and his eyes seemed ready to shoot flames.
"You just wait, I'm going to create the best suit ever!!!"
Chu Yang chuckled with satisfaction.
Look at that, he's motivated again.
…
In the world of One Piece, Water 7.
This place was also the birthplace of the ancient weapon "Pluton" 800 years ago.
Water 7 was a unique place, highly autonomous.
It resembled a nation more than a city.
Its autonomy came from hosting numerous shipbuilding companies that supplied over 90% of the Navy's warships.
If Water 7 ever halted its operations, it could even affect the Navy itself.
As such, even though the city welcomed pirates and handled their business, the World Government turned a blind eye.
However, since the Red Force arrived in Water 7, the number of pirates coming to repair their ships had significantly decreased.
Currently, after several major battles, Shanks' reputation had nearly caught up with the other "Emperors of the Sea," and the Four Emperors' power structure was beginning to take shape.
With the Red Force still undergoing modifications, Shanks and his crew spent their days drinking in the local bars of Water 7.
"That kid Yang has brought some strange instruments and equipment onto the ship and spends every day researching without even leaving his room. At this rate, he's going to lose his mind," complained sniper Yasopp after downing a large mug of beer.
"Yang is much healthier than you. Instead of worrying about his brain, you should worry about your own. If you keep drinking like this, you'll be the first to lose your mind!"
Ship doctor Hongo's comeback drew laughter from everyone around.
"But seriously, what exactly is Yang working on? He even asked the captain for a private room. If it weren't for the fact that the Red Force's modification is only half done, it would've been hard to give him such a big space."
Cook Lucky Roux looked intrigued, but the captain had strictly forbidden anyone from disturbing Chu Yang, so no one knew what was inside his room.
They had only caught a glimpse of those strange instruments the day Chu Yang brought them aboard.
"I accidentally saw him once. He seemed to be studying his own blood, mumbling something about 'factors' and 'cells.' Captain, are you sure there's nothing wrong with him?"
Benn Beckman turned to Shanks, concerned that Chu Yang might be heading down a dangerous path.
"Yang knows what he's doing. You don't need to worry."
Shanks smiled and raised his glass, and the rest of the crew followed suit. Soon, they were all focused on their drinking once again.
In fact, on the day Chu Yang returned, he had already explained the concept of Lineage Factors to Shanks.
Although Shanks didn't fully understand the lineage factor technology, he vaguely sensed its significance and thus granted Chu Yang's request.
During the modification of the Red Force, Chu Yang stayed aboard, conducting his research.
He attempted to use the lineage factor technology to extract some of the Wood Release abilities from his body, much like how Vegapunk separated Kizaru's Glint-Glint Fruit ability and added it to the artificial weapon "Pacifista."
If he succeeded, Chu Yang would be able to create the Six Paths lineage in the Naruto world, gaining the chakra of the Sage of Six Paths.
The Red-Haired Pirates stayed in Water 7 for another week, their prolonged presence even attracting the attention of the Navy Headquarters.
The distance between Marineford, the Navy Headquarters, and Water 7 wasn't too far nor too close, making it a sensitive situation.
The Red-Haired Pirates' stay in Water 7 gave the Navy a feeling of unease, akin to someone sleeping with an intruder under their bed.
As time went on, the Navy responded by increasing the frequency of warship patrols near Water 7.
However, both the Navy and the Red-Haired Pirates acted with restraint, and no conflict broke out.
Neither side wanted to start a war in Water 7, as the resulting damage would make them both public enemies overnight.
"Time to head out for a bit."
After a week of intense effort, Chu Yang had made significant progress in his research on lineage factor technology, but by now, his mental state was clearly at its limit.
Reflecting on how he had been in Water 7 for nearly half a month without exploring the city, Chu Yang couldn't help but smile wryly, realizing he had become somewhat obsessed during this period.
Chu Yang stepped onto the deck and looked out. The Red Force had grown four to five times larger than before.
He had stayed in his room the entire time, completely unaware of the ship's transformation.
At that moment, aside from Chu Yang, only a few new trainee crew members were left on the Red Force, keeping watch over the ship. Upon seeing Chu Yang, they immediately gathered around.
"Yang, you're finally out! I heard there's some big event today. Everyone in Water 7 is gathering for it, and even the captain has gone to join the fun," one of the trainees said excitedly.
Curious, Chu Yang asked, "What kind of event could even interest Shanks?"
The trainee scratched his head and replied, "I heard it's the completion of some sea train. You see that track over there connecting to Water 7?"
Chu Yang was momentarily stunned, suddenly remembering the timeline—this was over ten years ago.
Without wasting time exchanging further words with the trainees, Chu Yang bolted from the ship and rushed into Water 7 at top speed.
The world's greatest shipwright, Tom of the Fishman race, had been condemned for building the Pirate King Roger's ship.
However, he also gained a chance to have his crimes offset by completing the incredible feat of constructing the sea train.
Unfortunately, that opportunity could not save his life.
At that time, Spandam—who had yet to become the leader of CP9, the secret agency directly under the World Government—knew that Tom possessed the blueprints for the ancient weapon "Pluton."
Failing to steal them, Spandam harbored deep resentment. He then stole the "Franky Battle Franky," invented by Tom's apprentice Franky, and used it to attack a judicial ship sent from Enies Lobby.
This was a grave offense!
It was no less severe than Tom's crime of helping build the Pirate King's ship!
Spandam framed Franky for this heavy crime, and in order to protect his apprentice, Tom used the credit from creating the sea train to pardon Franky.
As for himself, Tom would face trial and be taken to Enies Lobby for execution.
Today marked the completion of the sea train, as well as the day when Tom, the world's greatest shipwright, would be executed!
Chu Yang pushed through the throngs of people at the port just in time to witness Tom, shackled in chains.
A young Iceburg had despair written all over his face.
Chu Yang took a deep breath, glancing around as he searched for Shanks.
Since they were here for the spectacle, the Red-Haired Pirates were bound to be nearby.
After looking around for a while but finding no one, Chu Yang prepared to use Observation Haki. Even though the place was crowded and noisy, he had no other choice.
The next moment, Chu Yang felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around to find Shanks standing behind him.
"Kid, after staying indoors all this time, you choose today to come out? We're just about to leave."
Shanks gave Chu Yang an exasperated look, but the latter suddenly grinned in a way that sent chills down Shanks' spine.
"Captain, before we go, how about we pull off something big?"
