Second Shot at Life

Chapter 3: The First Challenge

After yesterday experience Jay sat on his bed, staring at the ceiling, trying to process the surreal experience he was going through.

Jay (thinking): "So, this isn't just a weird dream... I really have a chance to change my future."

The System appeared beside Jay, hovering with an amused expression.

System: "Morning, sunshine! Ready to get started?"

Jay: "Alright, System. What can you help me with? What do I have to do to change my future?"

The System smirked, its eyes twinkling with mischief.

System: "That depends on timing and need. What do you need the most right now, Jay?"

Jay thought hard, his mind racing through the possibilities. He remembered struggling with his studies, the frustration of never being able to remember things no matter how hard he tried.

Jay (thinking): "I was never good at studying or remembering things."

The System's eyes lit up, a message flashing in front of Jay with a cheerful sound.

System: "Ding ding ding! Your first challenge: 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats, and a 10 km run."

Jay looked at the System in disbelief.

Jay: "Wait a minute... isn't this from the anime On* Punc* Ma*? Are you kidding me? And what will I get if I complete this challenge?"

The System shrugged nonchalantly, a playful smirk on its face.

System: "Hey, if it works for Saitam*, it works for you. Complete it, and you'll find out. That is, if you can."

Jay felt a surge of frustration.

Jay: "Are you serious? I'm in the body of an 8-year-old kid! How do you expect me to complete this challenge?"

The System's expression remained amused, but its tone was firm.

System: "You have 24 hours to complete the challenge, Jay. It's on you how you do it."

Jay took a deep breath, determination sparking in his eyes.

Jay (thinking): "I have to do this. For my future."

He started with push-ups, struggling but pushing through each rep. The System floated nearby, watching with a teasing grin.

System: "Come on, Jay, even a snail moves faster than you."

Sweat trickled down Jay's face as he completed the first 10 push-ups. After what felt like an eternity, he finally reached 50 push-ups, his arms trembling with each movement.

Jay (breathing heavily): "One... two... fifty... ugh..."

Taking a brief rest, Jay moved on to sit-ups. His core burned as he pushed himself through each rep.

Jay (thinking): "I can do this... sixty... seventy..."

The System continued to hover nearby, relentless in its taunts.

System: "Don't quit now, Jay. We wouldn't want your future to be as flabby as your sit-ups."

By the time he reached 90 sit-ups, Jay's body was shaking with effort.

Jay performed squats next, his legs trembling with each movement. The clock ticked on, each second feeling like an hour as he pushed through.

Jay (thinking): "Almost there... eighty... ninety..."

System: "Almost there, champ. Try not to face-plant. Or, better yet, just give up now. Save yourself the embarrassment."

Finally, Jay started the 10 km run. His legs felt like lead, each step a battle against his own limits. The sun began to set as he pushed through the pain, determined to finish.

Jay (thinking): "Almost there... just a little more..."

System: "Look at you go, little champ. Just a few more kilometers. Or, you know, you could quit anytime. No one would blame you."

After hours of grueling effort, Jay completed the run, collapsing to the ground, utterly exhausted.

Jay (gasping): "Did... it..."

The System smiled, genuinely impressed.

System: "Well done, Jay. You've earned it. Enjoy your new photographic memory."

Jay's vision blurred as the power took effect, but the exhaustion was too much. He fainted.

Caption: "Later..."

Jay woke up in a hospital bed, his family gathered around, worry etched on their faces.

Mom: "Jay! You're awake! What happened?"

Jay's mind was foggy, but the realization of his achievement brought a weak smile to his lips.

Jay (thinking): "I did it... I really did it."

Jay (weakly): "Just... overexerted myself, I guess."

His parents' relief quickly turned to fury.

Dad: "Jay, what were you thinking? Why did you push yourself so hard? You're just a kid!"

Mom: "This is insane! Do you have any idea how worried we were? Why did you feel the need to do this?"

Jay looked at their concerned faces, knowing he couldn't explain the real reason.

Jay (thinking): "How do I tell them it was all for a chance to change everything?"

The System appeared beside him, invisible to everyone else, a sly smile on its face.

System (whispering): "Get used to the taste of victory, Jay. There's a lot more where that came from."
