Chapter 29: Unexpected.
Chapter 29: Unexpected.
While the monster and humans are being killed in the city. The situation on the border is not looking good.
The appearance of the orcs has caused the human formation to be broken. Being attacked from the front and back is not something that the Cirean Kingdom army can handle. The master rank that the palace sent still hasn’t returned.
When they thought there was no hope, three flying metal warships appeared and decimated the monster tide. The monsters have no choice but to retreat to Pondover Forest while waiting for the new order.
After that, the human army manages to regain control of the border again.
The border general sighed in relief. However, he is puzzled as to why the flying warship is here. Last year, when another general in charge of the border asked permission to use it, his request was denied. Because the cost of operating the flying warship is expensive. Whatever the case, his life is safe.
-
In another area, two figures walk in Pondover Forest. That person is the hobgoblin king, Nozag, and the orc king. Both of them suffered some injuries after fighting with Sir Theodore, the master-rank warrior from the Cirean Kingdom. Even the orc war hammer has several cracks.
Theodore is strong, but because of his age and fighting two master ranks, he can’t last a long time. Different from the two monsters that have strong vitality. In the end, after suffering a serious injury, he fled.
"If only we had more masters joining us." There are other monster kings in Pondover Forest, but their territory is larger than theirs. After all, the Pondover Forest is huge compared to the other kingdoms near its border.
"It's impossible; we still need to protect our tribe." Answered the orc king. Normally, in a monster nest, there will be two or three master-rank monsters.
Although the monsters are numerous, there is also conflict among them; there is even a case where two masters of the same tribe compete for the position of king. The loser will be killed or exiled by the winner. But still, the master rank in Pondover Forest is high compared to humans. However, the forest is ruled by the survival of the fittest. Because of that, death is common.
After they return to the monster tide camp, they receive the news about the invasion's failure.
King Nozag never expected that the Cirean Kingdom would send out their flying warship so fast. Not only that, but the monster tide from Violet Forest also failed.
"Should we destroy the flying warship?" Asked the Orc king.
"Even with both of us, it will take time to destroy one flying warship, and we don’t know if there is a master rank hiding inside." After thinking for a while, King Nozag spoke. "How is the tunnel?" He looks at the hobgoblin that knelt in front of him.
"Most of it is done." Answered the hobgoblin wearing a leather robe.
"We shall separate our army and gather enough food before we return to Pondover Forest." The only reason the monster tide attacks the human and other races' kingdoms is for food.
"Yes."
Tomorrow morning, the monster tide disappears from the border.
-
Far from the border, there is a figure in the sky: a middle-aged peasant with gray hair wearing a tunic shirt who has slowly landed in the woods. Theodore, after getting seriously injured, used his last remaining energy to flee into Cirean Kingdom territory.
"That’s hurt." Only after Theodore calms down can he feel his pain. He is too confident and thought he would have no problem defeating two masters with his peak master rank strength. But he underestimated the monster's strength and stamina.
While walking, blood kept coming out of his wound. He needs to find a place to rest.
"There should be a village or town nearby." Theodore's body feels weaker, and the snow is slowing down his movement.
"No, I can’t last long." After walking for a long time, he finally sees a cave and enters it. After that, he faints.
-
Levi, return to the camp, see the gnoll pursuer that dies from poison, and covert them to death point.
Clara looks at the bloody, chubby human corpses with pity, while Otis shows no emotion seeing the carcass disappear because everyone has a secret. But since Levi is a necromancer, he can guess. After that, they leave the area and go deeper into the woods to find other monster nests.
If Levi is lucky, he'll come across a defenseless monster nest, but if it's too dangerous, he'll leave and have to find another way to get there.
After a few hours of walking, they decided to rest. While resting, Levi closed his eyes to check his accumulation.
[Mission: Survive in the unknown world.]
[Reward: Advance Magic Elements Manual.]
[Death point required: 5000 DP]
[Further detail will be added when the mission starts.]
[Death point collected: 3798.91 DP]
Killing so many monsters is still not enough to start the mission. He can’t do anything about it because most of the gnolls he kills are young, weak, and old. The good thing is that the gnoll pursuers give him a lot of death points.
Levi has a feeling that when he finishes this mission, the next mission will require a lot more death points. Other than hunting monsters or killing humans, he doesn’t know any other way to get more death points.
The only way is to create an organization that can help him hunt monsters. In his past life, using his experience, he managed to create a dark organization that could even influence some politicians. But can he do it in a world where people have superpowers and magic?
Levi opens his eyes. Right now, even if he wants to create one, he is still weak and doesn’t have the resources to create an organization from scratch. And it will be hard to take over a large organization in this world without influence or connection.
Another way is to create a large undead army. However, it took a long time and a lot of resources to build an undead army. He will also lack a death point if he focuses on necromancy. Not to mention humans and other races hate the undead. He might become an enemy of humanity.
‘Forget about it for now.’ Levi stands up and gets ready to leave. It was useless to think so far ahead. He will think about it after he finishes the second mission.
In the sky, many birds fly in all directions.
They continued their journey in the violet forest and decided to stop when the day was getting dark.
"There is a cave in front; let's rest there tonight."
Clara and Otis follow Levi and can see the cave entrance. However, when they enter, there is a middle-aged man lying on the floor, bleeding. Levi wanted to check, but Clara quickly stopped him.
"Stop, that man is not simple." Clara can sense that the blood coming from the man is strong. "Grandpa Otis, use your poison."
"Don’t call me grandpa, I am still young." Otis waved his hand, and several needles flew out, but he couldn’t piece the middle-aged man's skin. He frowns and throws poison gas toward the unconscious man. "Let’s get out of the cave first." They all leave the cave and enter it half an hour later.
"What poison are you using?" Asked Clara after confirming the man was really dead.
"Don’t worry, the poison will disappear once the victim dies."
"Good, I want his blood." After saying that Clara absorbs the middle-aged man's blood, the wound that had begun to dry up bursts open and the blood entered her palm. Her body becomes flushed from the blood.
Levi and Otis sit at the side and wait for Clara to finish assimilating the blood. A few hours later, she opens her eyes and speaks. "This man is not an adept rank but a master rank."
"What!" Both Levi's and Otis's eyes widened.
Otis almost had a heart attack. In his life, he never dreamed of killing a master rank; he only thought that the person that he killed learned some kind of armor skin skill.
"We are lucky he is injured." Clara can feel that his blood manipulation has become stronger.
"Why didn't you say it earlier?" Otis's pale face became paler. Master rank is someone that can destroy a city alone.
"Because his blood lost most of its vitality, I can't sense it correctly without absorbing the blood."
"Can I have the corpse?" While they were arguing, Levi asked.
Both of them have no objection and continue arguing.
Suddenly, a loud roar can be heard in the depths of the cave. They are to focus on the middle-aged man; they don’t check what is inside the cave.
Otis and Clara become tense, but Levi finds that the roar is familiar.
