Chapter 6: Awkwardness to the Extreme
Su Ling was startled and picked up the IV stand from the floor, smashing it onto the head of the zombie. The zombie let out a scream even more unpleasant than that of a slaughtered pig and fell to the ground. However, the noise alerted other zombies in the building, and a shuffling sound of footsteps echoed in the empty corridor, sending shivers down Su Ling's spine.
In her panic, she suddenly remembered her reinforcement system and wondered if it could be used to reinforce the hospital room.
She quickly pressed her hand against the wall next to the door.
"Reinforce."
The mechanical voice came again.
"Reinforcement success rate: 5%. Reinforcement failed. Does the host wish to continue the reinforcement?"
Her own reinforcement rate was indeed only 5%, but she was relieved to find that the room could be reinforced as well.
Su Ling felt a surge of joy and immediately shouted, "Continue."
"Reinforcement success rate: 5%. Reinforcement failed. Does the host wish to continue the reinforcement?"
"Continue."
It wasn't until she shouted for the fourth time that the words "Reinforcement success" finally appeared.
The building's armor increased by twenty, endurance by twenty, and resistance to attacks also increased by twenty percent.
From this, it could be seen that the attributes of the reinforced item would generate other random attributes based on the item itself.
Next, a scene that shocked Su Ling occurred.
The previously broken glass actually reassembled itself on the ground and returned to the door, its color deepened compared to before.
Su Ling couldn't help but gape in astonishment. Could it really be done like this?
This system was simply too incredible.
Later, Su Ling felt somewhat relieved that Sheng Hongye hadn't seen this scene; otherwise, she wouldn't be able to explain it.
At that moment, a shadow flashed across the glass, and another bloody and disfigured face appeared outside the window, gnashing its teeth and pounding incessantly. Su Ling took a step back in fright, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes fixed on the glass, afraid that the zombie would break through like before.
The twenty percent increase in endurance, armor, and resistance to attacks proved to be very useful. No matter how the zombie pounded, the glass did not shatter again.
Collecting herself, Su Ling returned to the bedside to wake up Gu Kai Xuan. Anesthesia was risky for a child, so she needed to wake him up early to avoid falling into a deep sleep.
"Kai Xuan, Kai Xuan."
She gently patted his chubby little face. Two minutes later, Gu Kai Xuan weakly opened his eyes.
"Auntie, am I dead?"
Su Ling suppressed a smile and held his small hand, saying, "Don't worry, you're fine now. In a few days, you'll be jumping around like before."
Gu Kai Xuan's eyes widened a bit more, and he weakly asked, "Really?"
Su Ling touched his soft hair and said, "Of course, Auntie is a doctor, and doctors don't lie."
Gu Kai Xuan nodded and was about to close his eyes again, but Su Ling quickly woke him up.
"Be good, don't sleep yet. Auntie will tell you a story, okay?"
Gu Kai Xuan opened his eyes again and looked around before asking in a soft voice, "Auntie, where's my uncle?"
Su Ling spoke gently, "Your uncle went to get medicine for our little sweetheart. Once we take the medicine, we'll get better even faster."
She glanced at her phone; Sheng Hongye had been gone for over ten minutes. He should be back by now, but did something happen to him?
Thinking of that man's strength, Su Ling shook her head. It wouldn't be a problem for him to deal with a few zombies.
Just as she finished her thought, she heard a series of urgent and heavy footsteps. The light outside the glass brightened, and several zombies clinging to the window were kicked away by one person. Su Ling quickly ran to the door and saw that it was indeed Sheng Hongye.
He had a large backpack with "Tianfu Hospital" printed on it, filled with medicines.
"Quick, come in."
Seeing the zombies knocked down, Su Ling hurriedly opened the door.
Sheng Hongye swiftly entered, and when he saw Gu Kai Xuan with his eyes open, the tension on his face eased slightly.
"Uncle."
Gu Kai Xuan's spirits lifted, and he waved at Sheng Hongye.
At that moment, the room suddenly shook, as if there was an earthquake. Then, with a loud bang, the room sank in an instant.
The intense shaking made Su Ling lose her balance, and she stumbled, falling onto Sheng Hongye's waist.
She reached out and grabbed his belt, only to find herself facing a certain part of Sheng Hongye's body, which was incredibly embarrassing.
She wanted to let go, but the ground beneath her feet rolled like waves, not giving her a chance to release her grip. Su Ling suddenly recalled the horrifying scene during their escape from the city. Could this place be turning into that disaster as well?
In her mind, she urgently called out: "Reinforce, continue to reinforce this room."
"The person with whom the host's soul is fused has appeared. The probability of successful reinforcement is eighty percent. Reinforcement successful. Building armor increased by twenty, endurance increased by twenty, resistance to attacks increased by twenty percent. Do you wish to continue reinforcing?"
"Continue, continue, continue..."
Although this Tianfu Hospital was located in the town, it had at least ten floors in size.
If a real earthquake occurred, she wouldn't have time to seek safety before being crushed.
The prompt continued to sound, and soon the room was fully reinforced. The crack that appeared in the right corner of the wall during the shaking had miraculously closed. The room, which had sunk several meters, finally stabilized.
Sheng Hongye held the bed's handle with one hand and pressed Gu Kai Xuan's legs with the other to prevent him from moving. He had no time to attend to Su Ling, who was still grabbing onto his belt. Only at this moment did he finally let out a slow breath.
"Miss Su, are you okay?"
"Ah!" Su Ling screamed, letting go of her grip. Unexpectedly, she got up too quickly and bumped into Sheng Hongye's abdomen.
She felt his abdominal muscles, as hard as iron, and almost fainted from the impact. If she hadn't let go, she would have fallen to the ground.
A hand reached out from the side, securely holding her.
Su Ling looked up and met Sheng Hongye's narrow and deep eyes, feeling her ears turn hot.
She grabbed the edge of the bed and stood up, coughing slightly, "I'm fine. Kai Xuan, are you okay? Does your wound hurt?"
Gu Kai Xuan blinked his big black grape-like eyes, looking at Su Ling. Suddenly, he chuckled, "It doesn't hurt, Auntie. Are you blushing? No woman can resist the charm of my uncle."
Initially, Su Ling wasn't embarrassed, but the child's remark made her completely embarrassed.
She quickly turned her face away. "Nonsense, Auntie was just startled."
Glancing out the window, she couldn't help but exclaim again.
This was the fifth floor, and yet the shabby Passat was parked right next to the window!
This meant that everything below the fourth floor had disappeared.
The surrounding area was filled with bricks and debris, and the dust was flying, almost burying her small car.
The commercial building across the street was tilting and collapsed, leaving a deep pit in the ground. Almost all the buildings had lost a floor.
Between the hospital and the commercial building, the ground had cracked open with a one-foot-wide giant fissure, from which hot air was constantly billowing.
