Chapter 7: Chapter 7

*Crash*

Jin woke up abruptly to the sound of something breaking.

He found Kuroka glaring at the alarm clock as if it were her eternal nemesis. The poor device was already smashed into tiny pieces.

"..." Jin looked at Kuroka in silence while she scratched her head awkwardly.

"I was sleeping peacefully until that thing made noise!" Kuroka defended herself, even though she was clearly in the wrong.

"Why does it make noise in the first place?"

"It's an alarm clock. Its job is to make noise before you smash it to bits," Jin said as he got out of bed and inspected the shattered remains.

There was no hope of fixing it now.

Jin glanced at Kuroka, already calculating the upcoming losses to his wallet for the next few months.

-

After an eventful morning and Kuroka's failed attempt to convince Jin to skip school and spend time with her instead, Jin decided to go.

Skipping on the second day, no matter how lenient the school might be, felt a bit too much. Moreover, today was the student council meeting, so he made up his mind to attend.

Under the blazing early morning sun, Jin decided to take a shortcut through an alley and use his speed to get to school faster.

He didn't feel like walking much today.

As soon as he entered, he noticed the environment around him beginning to shift. A thick fog spread, blinding his vision.

Realizing he had unknowingly stepped into the demonic city, a name echoed in his mind.

"…Mato," he muttered, observing the bleak surroundings and the demons rushing toward him. It felt like the world was intent on stopping him from attending school today.

"I just want to be a good student, okay?" he sighed. As soon as he finished his sentence, a massive demonic beast lunged at him from behind with full force.

Jin raised his hand, caught the demon's arm mid-strike, spun it around 360 degrees, and hurled it at the approaching horde.

Watching the oncoming wave of monsters, Jin found himself briefly lost in thought.

In this world, the original hero, Yuki, and even Issei's predecessor were absent. Though other iconic heroes like Dante and Hachiman were present, Yuki's role was non-existent, and his sister had become Jin's childhood friend.

In the past, Jin had lacked the strength to protect her from Mato's horrors, and she became one of the city's victims.

The sound of an approaching demon snapped him out of his thoughts. As he was about to summon Excalibur to deal with them, a melodic voice interrupted him.

"Don't worry, you're in safe hands now."

Pink eyes and silver hair. It could only be Kyouka Uzen, the story's main protagonist.

"…I wasn't worried, really," Jin tried to argue, but Kyouka grabbed him and hoisted him onto her beast's back, fleeing the swarm.

Watching her skillfully wield her sword and slay demons, Jin had to admit she was strong—impressively so.

"It seems we're in a tight spot," Jin remarked. Kyouka nodded in agreement. They were already surrounded.

At that moment, Kyouka considered her options. Looking at Jin, she decided to use her ability on him. She erected a barrier to keep the demons at bay for a while.

"What's your name?" Kyouka asked, casting a curious glance at Jin. For some reason, his face seemed familiar, yet she couldn't place where she'd seen him before.

And, truth be told, his face was rather captivating.

"Jin. Hiratsuka Jin." Jin massaged his temples, trying to stave off a looming headache. Taking Issei's spot as the original hero of DXD was enough to give him migraines, and now he had no intention of claiming Yuki's role as well.

"I understand you're nervous because of the situation and being an ordinary man with no power, but I have a way to get us out of this," Kyouka offered, misinterpreting Jin's gesture as anxiety.

"Keep your way to yourself," Jin retorted. He wasn't planning to stick around any longer. He summoned Excalibur out of thin air and swung it.

Kyouka, who was busy taking in the sight of a sword materializing out of nowhere, was captivated by the holy light emanating from it. Following the light's trajectory, she saw the entire horde of demons split cleanly in half.

She wasn't the only one surprised. Jin himself had his share of astonishment.

[The host acquires Peach's power.]

[The host acquires Chastiefol.]

A wide grin spread across Jin's face as he looked at Kyouka, flames of determination in his eyes. If taking Yuki's destiny meant more rewards, it was worth walking through hell!

Perhaps his luck had taken a turn for the better, or it was because he had intervened at the beginning of the story rather than before it even started, as he usually did.

Whatever the reason, Jin deemed it entirely worth it.

"What's your name?" Jin asked, even though he already knew it wasn't polite to address her without her permission.

"…Kyouka Uzen." At that moment, Kyouka's worldview shattered. Weren't men supposed to be weak?

"Alright, Uzen-san, do you have a way to get me out of here?" Jin inquired, summoning Chastiefol to examine it.

Admiring the magnificent spear Jin controlled effortlessly, he felt pleased with the weapon. It was King's version from The Seven Deadly Sins, and Jin could already summon its final form. However, the regular version was more than enough to handle current problems.

"Before that, how do you possess such power?" Kyouka asked, her curiosity piqued as she regained her composure.

"I was born with it?" Jin answered nonchalantly. He wasn't about to explain the system to her.

Even his father and Bismarck, his superior, didn't know about it.

"No, how do humans, specifically men, have such abilities? That's what I mean," Kyoka said as she looked at him with curiosity, regaining her composure.

"They don't. I am the only one of my kind, even within the organization I belong to." Originally, the world was a normal, everyday one, where all men were demons or half-demons possessing power.

Ordinary humans did not have much power to speak of, and even the Armed Investigation Organization's capabilities were rather modest.

"Organization... Wait, you said your name is Hirtuska Jin, right?" It was as if wires connected in Kyoka's mind; she suddenly remembered where she had heard his name before.

"Yes, is there a problem?"

"You belong to the Paranormal Countermeasures Organization, don't you?" Jin nodded at that. His identity wasn't a secret, nor did he live with a dual identity.

There was no need for that, especially in the absence of anything threatening his peaceful life.

"The strongest agent, Jin!" Kyoka moved so close that Jin instinctively took a step back.

"Sorry, but do I know you?" Jin wasn't familiar to Kyoka at all. Despite his work, he wasn't aware of the events in detail; he had only watched up to three chapters at most.

Therefore, he didn't know much about this world, unlike the others.

Kyoka, on the other hand, knew him very well without his knowledge.

Her village, Gassan Oisawa, which was destroyed eight years ago, had survivors thanks to the man standing before her.

Although he hadn't been able to save everyone due to his significant lack of power at that time compared to now, he was one of the people who saved her and took risks without hesitation.

Back then, she had searched far and wide for him but couldn't find any information—until his name started to emerge among the supernatural realms.

Hirtuska Jin, the strongest agent.

She had gathered information about this agent, and his description matched the person standing before her, the one who saved her.

Silver hair like hers, but with brilliant golden eyes that shone like the rarest jewels, and a strikingly handsome face.

Although she tried to find a way to work with the organization to confirm they were the same person, her attempts failed.

But now, the man himself had come to her home. How could she let him leave?

No, she had to make him a member of her squad as well.

Kyoka was ambitious, and the man before her could defeat her in a direct fight without even breaking a sweat, but she would try with every chance she had.

"Ahem, allow me to introduce myself again. My name is Kyoka Uzen, leader of the Seventh Squad in the Demon City. It's an honor to meet you, strongest agent Jin." Kyoka extended her hand for a handshake, and Jin shook her hand in return.

"Since you already know me, there's no need for introductions. It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Kyoka Uzen."

"By the way, Uzen-san, regarding my return—"

"Don't worry. I'll find a way to send you back as soon as possible. But there's no harm in visiting the Seventh Squad's headquarters for a while."

"...Sure." Despite the shaky smile Jin struggled to maintain, Kyoka chose to ignore it for now.

'I'll return soon... won't I?'

While using one of the creatures called "Shouki," Jin learned a few things.

The power of Peach was exclusive to women, but due to the fusion of worlds, this wasn't like his original world, and men's rights had vanished.

The roles hadn't reversed since the majority of people in this world were still ordinary humans.

Notably, Jin's organization was the same, but aside from men in logistical roles like Alex, there wasn't anyone on the frontlines except Jin.

Also, the demon city was named Mato, which referred to the entire place.

Out of curiosity, Jin spread his energy to search for traces of demons but found nothing except "Shouki" beasts and [each power users.

This meant that this area was entirely separate from the demon world Jin knew.

It seemed things were heading in a direction different from what Jin had envisioned, but he had to admit he was excited about facing strange things all the time.

"Jin, do you mind if I call you by your name directly?"

"You've already said my name, and I don't mind. I hate formality, anyway." Jin shrugged, emphasizing his point as he always did.

Too much formality made humans limited in their interactions with one another.

Some formalities were important as they suited the situation, but at times, it became overly excessive, creating barriers between people.

That's why Jin always preferred the easy way—no formalities. Be yourself.

"Then you can call me Kyoka directly too." The two were already nearing the Seventh Squad's headquarters, and it was time for Jin to meet the rest of the members.
