Chapter 19
|3rd POV|
Mikazuki Munechika shines a little when Jacob takes it out from its sheath. The glowing of his sword caught Ferid's attention.
"Hmmm, is that a magic sword?"
"No, Your Majesty. We have already checked it through many magicians and even some blacksmiths. They said it was not magic that made the sword glow but rather the metal used to make it."
"Hmmm, very well."
Ferid looks at the arena and watches as the referee gets between the two contestants.
"Both of you ready?"
Jacob nods his head while Lianes only grins at the thought of him killing Jacob. In his mind, Jacob did not have any chance of defeating him, and the only outcome was that he killed Jacob with his Ax.
"Very well. The fight will start at 3! 2! 1! Go!"
As soon as the referee gets out of the arena, Lianes charges toward Jacob with his Ax in hand. When he swung his Ax down, he already expected blood spraying out, but to his surprise, Jacob did not have any difficulty blocking his attack.
"Not bad!"
Jacob kicks his opponent with all of his strength and sees Lianes get thrown across the arena. He then dashes forward and thrusts his sword, but Lianes manages to dodge the attack by rolling to the right, to his surprise.
Jacob did not give Lianes a chance to counter-attack as he appeared in front of Lianes and punched his face to the ground. His punch is strong enough to create a crack on the floor. However, Jacob is not finished.
He jumped high in the air and hit Lianes with his knee. He then stabs his sword next to Lianes' neck and says.
"You lose."
After saying that, the referee gets back to the arena and says.
"Winner of the first stage! Jacob Shiff!"
Jacob put away his sword and walked away from the arena. However, before he could get away, Lianes got up and started screaming.
"Die, you bastard!"
Lianes charged at Jacob, but before he could even reach him, Jacob had already taken out his sword and swung it upwards. A second later, an arm fell to the ground; it was Lianes' arm.
"ARGH! Why?! I'm the strongest! I pillaged many villages! All fear my name! I'm supposed to win!"
"That is where you are wrong. You are killing the innocent. You only fight against the people who cannot fight back, which makes you weak."
Jacob spits at the ground before walking away from the arena. While the other contestants look at Jacob silently, Ferid, on the other hand, laughs at the sight.
"Great! We have a great contestant this year!"
Ferid knows he can trust his instinct, and currently, it tells him that Jacob is an excellent choice for his daughter.
Sacred Games is a tournament to choose the next king. Sacred Games are a long tradition to choose which man is suitable for his daughter. While it was only the early stage, he had a feeling that Jacob would be the one winning the tournament.
"What do you think of him, Galleon?!"
"Hmm? About what?"
"About Jacob, of course! What do you think of him?"
"His swordsmanship is okay. But, he only shows us the basics of his swordsmanship at the moment. However, I must admit that his physical strength is above the average. Train his swordsmanship a little more, and he can easily reach the Captain rank."
"Haaaa. That is not what I mean! What do you think of him? Do you think he is a perfect match for my daughter?"
Galleon looked at Ferid before sighing.
"I don't know. I have yet to talk to him."
"I want your opinion at the moment."
"He is an okay young man. He is calm and has the right head on his shoulder."
"I know, right?! I have a good feeling about this young man. Not only that, but he is also the youngest candidate to marry my daughter."
Ferid knows that all contestants in the Sacred Games are old men or at least in their mid-twenty. Jacob, on the other hand, is nineteen. Therefore, he is the youngest contestant in this tournament.
Lymsleia Falena is a ten-year-old girl, and marrying a forty-year-old man is not something he wants. But, while nineteen years old is still a big gap, he is willing to marry his daughter to a nineteen-year-old man.
At least they can become friends with each other.
"He still needs to win the Elimination Stage, your majesty."
"Heh. I have a feeling he will win this elimination stage."
Ferid and Gallelon continue to watch the elimination stage and see as the participant gets thinner with every match. Without him knowing, Jacob was already in the Semi-Finals.
"Jacob Shiff and Gin Gin, please go to the arena."
Jacob nods his head and gets down to the arena once more. As he looks at his opponent, he can see a tall man wearing Hanfu, clothing that was used in China in the Han Dynasty. He knows what kind of fighting style Gin Gin used.
He is a martial artist and uses his hands and legs to fight. Jacob also knows that Gin Gin is fast, faster than him. But, lucky for him, his speed is not too far behind.
"Are both fighters ready?!"
Jacob nods his head, the same with Gin Gin.
"Very well! Begin!"
After the referee said that, Jacob charged at his opponent with his sword in hand. He starts the fight with a thrusting attack. When his opponent dodges his attack, Jacob twists his sword and swings it toward Gin Gin.
Gin dodged the attack, grabbed Jacob's hand, and then attacked his arms. Gin expects Jacob to scream in pain and release his sword but sadly for him, Jacob only grunts and uses his leg to kick Gin away from him.
After kicking Gin away, Jacob quickly dashes forward and stabs his opponent with his sword. Gin grit his teeth when he feels Jacob's sword pierce through his armor as if it was wet paper. His clothing is not ordinary.
It was already enchanted using rune to be very durable and even have anti-stab and anti-slash enchantment. However, it did not stop Mikazuki Munechika from hurting him.
Gin is an intelligent person. As he jumped away from Jacob, he knew that he did not know how to defeat his opponent.
While he is faster than Jacob, it does not by much. Jacob is more durable, and his strength is way higher than his. He also feels that Jacob has more stamina than him, which means he is defeated in all but one factor.
Gin has pride in him, but he is smart and knows when he is defeated. So, he looks at the referee with a heavy sigh and says.
"I give up."
Jacob, who is ready to attack once again, stops in his tracks and looks at Gin in confusion.
"What? Really?"
"Aye. I give up. I know when I'm defeated. I should listen to my dad when he says that I'm not ready. Anyway, congratulations, my friend. Maybe we will fight once again in the future."
Gin offers his hand, but Jacob looks at it in suspicion before deciding to take it but ready to attack if it is a trap.
Both fighters do a handshake.
"This fight is not over. You did not have any intention to fight until the end. We will finish our fight when you are ready with all your might."
Gin looks at Jacob with a shocked expression before smiling.
"Aye. Let's fight with all of our might when we next meet."
Jacob nods his head, and he is declared a winner and can participate in the Sacred Games.
