Chapter 45: Chapter 45: Evolution – Beedrill
"It's now, Kakuna! Use Poison Sting!" Ash's command cut through the noise as he seized the opportunity. Before Spearow could adjust itself, Kakuna prepared to counterattack.
"Iron—!" Kakuna released concentrated Poison energy into its scythe-like arm. With a swift motion, it leaped forward, its glowing purple appendage striking Spearow.
The impact sent Spearow tumbling across the ground. Purple bubbles began to rise from its body, indicating it had been poisoned. The crowd murmured in surprise as they noticed Spearow's deteriorating condition.
Ash smiled to himself. During their training in the forest, he'd realized this Kakuna had an unusually high success rate with its Poison Sting. Normally, the move had a 30% chance of poisoning an opponent, but for this Kakuna, it was closer to 50%.
Speared by the poison and slowed by the earlier String Shot, Spearow's performance was visibly hindered. Its once-aggressive attacks were now sloppy and uncoordinated, and its combat power had dropped to less than half.
Asen clenched his fists. His ferocious expression revealed his disbelief. His Spearow should've had the upper hand—it was stronger and faster. Yet, somehow, Ash and Kakuna had turned the tables.
"I can't lose! Not here, not in front of everyone!" Asen muttered through gritted teeth. His face contorted with frustration as he barked, "Spearow! Use Aerial Ace with everything you've got!"
"Lie—!" Spearow let out a battle cry. Despite the poison and fatigue, it launched itself into the air. A sky-blue energy surrounded its body as it flew straight toward Kakuna at breakneck speed.
But Ash remained calm. "Kakuna, dodge with String Shot!"
"Iron shell—!" Kakuna immediately complied. Using its silk-like thread, it latched onto a nearby tree and pulled itself away just as Spearow's attack closed in. Spearow's Aerial Ace missed its mark, but it quickly turned in the air, preparing for another strike.
Kakuna, however, was ready. Cutting the thread from the tree, it shot another String Shot in a different direction, once again pulling itself out of harm's way. Spearow's second attack missed, and the glowing energy surrounding it dissipated.
Poison continued to sap Spearow's strength, and it wavered in midair, struggling to maintain its flight. Its stamina was nearly gone.
Ash saw his chance. "Kakuna, finish it with Poison Sting!"
Kakuna leaped into the air, its arm glowing with Poison energy once more. With a swift strike, it hit Spearow, sending the bird Pokémon crashing to the ground. Spearow tumbled before lying motionless, unable to battle any further.
"Spearow, get up! You can't lose like this!" Asen yelled, desperation clear in his voice. But his Pokémon didn't respond.
The surrounding Trainers erupted in awe. "Did that really just happen? Kakuna defeated Spearow?" someone exclaimed.
"How could this happen?" Asen muttered, his confidence shattered. His once-dominant Spearow had been bested by a Pokémon he'd mocked as weak. Kakuna, a Pokémon often considered on par with Magikarp in terms of strength, had proven its worth.
Ash smiled as he adjusted his hat. "Great job, Kakuna."
"Pikachu!" Pikachu cheered from the sidelines, clearly delighted at Kakuna's success. Misty, too, couldn't contain her excitement, clapping her hands in celebration.
But then, something extraordinary began to happen.
Kakuna closed its eyes, and its body started glowing with a rainbow of colors. The crowd gasped as they recognized what was happening.
"It's evolving!" one of the Trainers exclaimed.
As the glow intensified, cracks appeared along Kakuna's hard shell. A larger figure began to emerge, its form growing more defined with each passing second. When the light finally faded, standing in place of Kakuna was a Beedrill, its sharp stingers gleaming under the sunlight.
Beedrill
Type: Bug/Poison
Category: Poison Bee Pokémon
Ability: Sniper (Hidden Ability)
Strength: Ordinary Level
The crowd stared in amazement. Beedrill buzzed its wings, testing its newfound strength. Its evolution had not only increased its power but also unlocked the hidden ability Sniper, which amplified the damage of critical hits.
Ash was ecstatic. "Beedrill, you've grown so much!"
Beedrill turned to Ash, its antennae twitching in acknowledgment. It seemed just as excited about its evolution as its Trainer.
For Asen, the sight was unbearable. He'd not only lost to Ash but had to witness his opponent's Pokémon evolve in the process. His face burned with humiliation as the surrounding Trainers murmured praises for Ash.
"Ash's strategy was incredible!" one Trainer said.
"Who would've thought Kakuna could fight like that?" another added.
Asen clenched his fists, his face pale. Without saying a word, he called back his defeated Spearow and stormed off, unable to face the crowd.
Ash turned to Misty, who was beaming with pride. "That was amazing, Ash! You and Kakuna—I mean Beedrill—make a great team!"
"Thanks, Misty," Ash said, grinning. He looked at Beedrill. "Let's keep working hard and aim even higher!"
Beedrill buzzed in agreement, ready for whatever challenges lay ahead. As the crowd dispersed, Ash felt a renewed sense of determination. This battle had not only proven his growth as a Trainer but also showcased the potential of Pokémon others might overlook.
The road ahead would be tough, but with his Pokémon by his side, Ash was ready for anything.
