Chapter 321: Chapter 3: The Strange Pokémon of Valencia Island
It was only noon, and everyone was already feeling hungry. They decided to prepare lunch for themselves and their Pokémon in the courtyard.
"This… this is a disaster," Misty said as they stepped into the dining room. Connected to the kitchen, it offered a clear view of the chaos within.
The kitchen was an absolute mess. Dishes were piled up in the sink, unwashed and grimy.
The trash can was overflowing with kitchen waste, and clutter filled every available surface. It resembled a garbage dump rather than a place meant for cooking.
"We're not very interested in anything outside of research, so…" Professor Ivy explained apologetically after noticing the horrified looks on Ash and his friends' faces.
"This is… unbearable," Misty groaned. She could hardly imagine eating in such an environment.
The dining table itself was buried under takeout containers, with barely any usable space left.
"I guess I have no choice…" Brock sighed, running a hand over his head in an exaggerated attempt to slick back his short hair—a gesture that only made him look comical. "Leave it to me!"
Without another word, Brock got to work. His housework skills, honed to perfection, transformed the chaotic kitchen in no time.
Within ten minutes, all the trash was sorted and removed. Another ten minutes later, the kitchen and dining area were spotless, looking as pristine as if they were newly constructed.
"That's incredible…"
Ash and Misty, accustomed to Brock's efficiency, took it in stride. However, Professor Ivy and her assistants were amazed. They had little to no experience with housework and could only gape at Brock's swift and precise movements.
When Brock checked the refrigerator, he found it nearly empty. Besides some eggs, there were no other ingredients—not even basic seasonings. Undeterred, Brock used the supplies he carried in his backpack and began preparing lunch.
Cooking took longer than cleaning, but Brock's culinary skills were unparalleled. As the delicious aroma filled the air, even before the meal was complete, Professor Ivy and her assistants couldn't hide their anticipation.
"Alright, lunch is ready!" Brock announced triumphantly as he set the final dish on the table.
"It's amazing!" Without hesitation, Professor Ivy and her assistants began eating. One bite was all it took for them to be completely won over by Brock's cooking.
The group looked at Brock with newfound admiration. None of them had expected this unassuming young man to possess such remarkable culinary talent. It was the best meal they had ever tasted.
While Ash, Misty, and Brock finished eating quickly, Professor Ivy and her assistants lingered, savoring the meal. Brock took the opportunity to clean up again and began preparing food for the Pokémon.
After eating, Professor Ivy leaned back in her chair, clearly full, and sighed contentedly. "Brock, you're amazing. Whoever marries you in the future will be incredibly lucky."
Brock's normally dark complexion turned red with embarrassment at the unexpected compliment.
After a short rest, Professor Ivy and her assistants headed outside to feed the Pokémon in the courtyard.
The arrangement was simple: the Pokémon allowed Professor Ivy to study them, and in return, she provided food and care for them. It was a mutually beneficial relationship that worked well for both parties.
When Brock learned about this, he immediately volunteered to help. In no time, he modified Professor Ivy's food formula, creating a version that was even more nutritious and delicious.
The Pokémon eagerly devoured the improved food, much to everyone's amazement.
Meanwhile, Ash and Misty explored the courtyard, fascinated by the unique Pokémon living on Valencia Island.
Although the area near the laboratory didn't host many Pokémon, the abundant fruit trees in the courtyard attracted a variety of species.
The Pokémon here looked slightly different from those found elsewhere. Some had unique markings, while others displayed unusual skin colours.
Misty, intrigued, pointed to a brown-coloured Weepinbell. "Professor Ivy, do these Pokémon have any special abilities?"
"Not really," Professor Ivy replied, shaking her head. "Their appearance differs slightly due to the unique fruits they eat here, but their core abilities are the same as other Pokémon."
She paused before adding, "That said, these Pokémon do seem more energetic and resilient, making them excellent partners for Trainers."
Misty's interest waned upon realizing that most of the Pokémon here were Grass, Bug, or Normal types, which didn't align with her Water-type specialty.
Ash, too, showed no intention of capturing any Pokémon here, as he had his own plans in mind.
Brock, however, was fascinated. As he helped distribute food to the Pokémon, he closely observed their behavior, growing more interested by the minute.
"Ash, Misty, Professor Ivy," Brock said seriously after finishing his task.
"What's up?" Misty asked, confused by his sudden change in tone. Professor Ivy also looked puzzled, while Ash seemed to already have an idea of what Brock wanted to say.
"I've decided… I'd like to stay here for a while!" Brock declared his expression firm.
His goal was to become a top-tier Pokémon Breeder, and the unique Pokémon on Valencia Island provided a rare opportunity for study and research.
It wasn't about Professor Ivy or her assistants—this was about pursuing his dream.
Professor Ivy and her assistants were delighted to have Brock stay, knowing his skills and expertise would be invaluable. Ash and Misty, though surprised, supported his decision wholeheartedly.
As the day came to a close, the group parted ways, each preparing for the next leg of their respective journeys.
The strange Pokémon of Valencia Island had left a lasting impression, and for Brock, it marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in his life.
