Chapter 308: Chapter 308: Solar Beam
"But now, I have the speed advantage..." Gary observed Venusaur closely. Its movements and appearance revealed no signs of the Chlorophyll Ability, meaning speed wouldn't be an issue.
After two consecutive uses of Rapid Spin, Blastoise's speed had increased by two levels.
Judging from Venusaur's stocky build, Gary felt confident that his Blastoise could outmaneuver it with ease.
Blastoise's superior speed could become the decisive factor, and Gary knew he still had a hidden move that could turn the tide. If Ash remained unaware of it, it might serve as the key to victory.
"Blastoise, Rapid Spin!" Gary commanded. With his speed advantage established, he decided to maintain the momentum.
Another Rapid Spin would not only further boost Blastoise's speed but also nullify attempts by Venusaur to use Leech Seed or similar moves.
Blastoise retracted its limbs and head into its shell, spinning at high speed. The whirling turtle shell carved a wide arc in the air as it hurtled toward Venusaur at impressive speed.
"Venusaur, Vine Whip!" Ash countered immediately, refusing to let Blastoise close the distance.
Venusaur roared, its deep voice resonating across the battlefield as two thick vines shot out from the massive flower on its back, lashing toward Blastoise.
The impact of Vine Whip collided with the spinning Blastoise, partially negated by the momentum of Rapid Spin.
Even so, the force sent Blastoise flying backward, unable to approach Venusaur.
Blastoise tumbled through the air for over ten meters before emerging from its shell, landing steadily on the ground. Despite the blow, it showed no signs of significant damage.
"Again, Rapid Spin!" Gary shouted, doubling down on his strategy. Blastoise retracted into its shell once more, spinning even faster as it launched toward Venusaur with renewed determination.
Ash smirked, recognizing Gary's intent. "He's desperate to get close," Ash thought. The moves Gary could use at close range to counter Venusaur's Grass typing were limited—Bite or Aqua Tail were possible options, but Ash suspected the real threat was an Ice-type move, likely Ice Punch.
"Vine Whip again!" Ash commanded, unwilling to give Gary an opening.
Venusaur's thick vines lashed out once more, skillfully targeting Blastoise despite its erratic spinning trajectory.
The attack struck true, sending Blastoise flying back once again, preventing any further approach.
Gary's expression darkened. Venusaur was proving more challenging than anticipated, and the repeated failed attacks were draining Blastoise's energy. This stalemate couldn't continue if he wanted to win.
Gary clenched his fist, his determination reigniting. "There's no other choice…" he muttered under his breath. "Blastoise, use Ice Beam!"
"Blastoise!" The turtle Pokémon roared as icy blue energy began to gather in its mouth. The cold aura spread rapidly, forming a dense frost cloud that overflowed from its jaws.
A moment later, a concentrated beam of icy blue light erupted from Blastoise's mouth, streaking toward Venusaur with incredible speed. The ground along the beam's path froze over, coated in a thin layer of ice.
"Venusaur, Solar Beam!" Ash's eyes widened in realization. He had anticipated Ice Punch, but Ice Beam was a much greater threat.
Without hesitation, he called for Venusaur to unleash its most powerful attack.
Under the Sunny Day weather, the sunlight intensified rapidly, drawing the massive flower on Venusaur's back.
Grass-type energy surged, and within moments, a brilliant sphere of golden light formed at the flower's centre.
"Boom!" A thick beam of pale gold energy burst forth from Venusaur's flower, the recoil pushing Venusaur back nearly a metre as it unleashed its devastating attack.
The golden Solar Beam and the icy blue Ice Beam collided in midair, creating an explosion of energy.
The battlefield shook as the two beams pushed against each other, scattering light and frost across the arena.
The icy energy of Ice Beam briefly froze sections of the ground, but the intense heat radiating from Solar Beam quickly melted the frost. The clash reached a stalemate, neither side overpowering the other.
Ice Beam held the advantage of being super effective against Grass-types, while Solar Beam was significantly more powerful.
The resulting balance left the outcome uncertain, with both Pokémon pouring their energy into the struggle.
Both trainers watched intently, knowing that this battle was now a test of endurance and resolve.
Continuous energy output placed immense strain on both Pokémon, and prolonged use of such powerful moves risked overloading their bodies.
Ten tense seconds passed before the balance began to shift. The overwhelming strength of Solar Beam started to push back against Ice Beam, gradually gaining the upper hand.
Gary's face tightened as he realized the danger. "Blastoise can't win this exchange," he thought grimly. "We need a new approach."
"Blastoise, cancel Ice Beam! Use Rapid Spin to close the gap!" Gary called out decisively.
Blastoise immediately ceased its energy output, allowing the strengthened Ice Beam to disperse.
Taking advantage of the momentary obstruction caused by the lingering frost, Blastoise tucked into its shell and spun at high speed, weaving around the incoming Solar Beam.
Ash smirked, his eyes sharp. "Did you really think I wouldn't anticipate this?"
"Maintain Solar Beam! Sweep it across the battlefield!" Ash commanded.
"Venusaur!" Roaring with determination, Venusaur demonstrated its mastery over Solar Beam, maintaining the beam's output while adjusting its trajectory.
The golden beam swept across the battlefield like a giant energy whip, aimed directly at the spinning Blastoise.
Gary's eyes widened in shock. He hadn't expected Venusaur to possess such precision.
The sweeping Solar Beam struck Blastoise mid-spin, its immense power halting the shell's rotation.
The impact sent Blastoise flying across the field, crashing into the ground just near the arena's boundary.
Blastoise was down, but not out of the match
